5 Names Who Should Challenge Jon Moxley for AEW World Championship
Since signing with AEW it has felt like an inevitable
booking decision for Jon Moxley to be crowned the AEW World Champion and the Revolution
PPV only a little over a week ago that special moment took place. Defeating
first-ever champion Chris Jericho, Moxley walked out of Chicago the new AEW
World Champ in what was an emotional and well-deserved moment. The Moxley era
has officially begun and while there is unfinished business between Jon and The
Inner Circle there is a stacked roster just waiting to get their hands on the
most prestigious title in All Elite Wrestling but just who will challenge the unpredictable
titleholder and could any of the names mentioned today dethrone the fan
favourite of AEW?
Jimmy Havoc
A singles match between Jimmy Havoc and Jon Moxley really
does make for a dream collision. This is a match that has been teased on
Twitter and demanded by fans and we could be edging closer to seeing a full-blown
feud between two standouts in modern-day hardcore wrestling. Now, AEW fans
haven’t seen all too much of Havoc just yet but there is most certainly plenty
to come from this well-traveled British talent and his unique style and
character could bring something completely different to the World Championship
scene. Looking at Havoc he isn’t the typical image of a world champion, but he
has so much charisma and there is a great deal of hype around a rivalry with Moxley
that he makes for an excellent challenger! Here AEW has a brilliant
opportunity to create something totally fresh in the main event championship
scene focusing on the hardcore styles of both these stars and creating a major
star out of Havoc despite his inevitable loss to Jon (this time around). This
promises to be one of the most exciting and thrilling rivalries of Mox’s reign
and could elevate Jimmy to brand new heights giving him a spotlight he truly
deserves.
Hangman Adam Page
I absolutely love everything AEW is doing with Adam Page
right now. There is some excellent character building and storytelling here and
it really does feel as though its only a matter of time till he turns on his
Elite buddies. Page is an incredible in-ring talent with the fans on his side
and a fantastic move set that sees him work amazing matches! As one half of the
current tag team champions Page is getting the spotlight, he deserves but there
can be no denying even bigger and better things are on the horizon for him including
a possible rivalry with partner, Kenny Omega. Further down the line, however, it
would make for a huge must see to see Hangman collide with our AEW World
Champion, Jon Moxley. The two men most certainly have their similarities in terms
of their attitudes and combined with their talent and likeability and position they
have on the roster this could make for an epic championship rivalry. Hangman
makes for one of the most likely and favourites to eventually dethrone Jon but it’s
the long-term character building and storytelling AEW work on from this point
onwards that will determine just how much of a success this will be.
Pentagon Jr
One of the most promising angles and something I really do
hope AEW work towards and book in the near future is rivalry between Jon Moxley
and Pentagon JR. Now, over the past year, in particular, we have seen plenty of
tag team-based work from Pentagon alongside brother Rey Fenix but let's not
forget just how much of an incredible singles star he is. Looking back at his
IMPACT Wrestling and Lucha Underground run and Pentagon stood out as one of the
keys, main event stars of both promotions. Working truly epic matches and
storylines he stood out as a major talent on the wrestling scene all by himself
and worked a handful of amazing bouts against the likes of Kenny Omega and Sami
Callihan. While it may be a while before we see Pentagon step away from tag
team action AEW must keep the doors open for a singles run for this talent for
there is something so very special and unique about what he has to offer.
Pentagon has an extremely dark and sadistic side and matched with a star like Moxley
fans are in for a real treat that could change the feel of AEW completely and see
the birth of a new top, main event talent and possible champion in Pentagon JR.
MJF
Love him or hate him MJF is on fire at the moment! Bursting
with momentum following his victory over Cody Rhodes the man who has every
right to be labeled one of the best heels in the business today is well on the
road to becoming a possible challenger to Jon Moxley’s AEW World championship.
Now, these two men genuinely couldn’t be any more different if they tried
and that’s what makes this so interesting and entertaining. The rich, arrogant boy
with muscle on his side vs the rough, tough, edgy champion in Moxley tells its
own story, a classic that is sure to draw in fans. Now, it may take a while
before we see these two names collide but when they do fans may be left in
complete shock once again with a potential end result that sees MJF with
another huge win only this time with the prize being the AEW Championship. This
potential rivalry has the chance to really push MJF to his limits both as a competitor
and a character and sure to make for an entertaining angle.
PAC
There is most certainly some unfinished business between PAC
and Jon Moxley and their collision is defiantly an inevitable one at that. Sure,
to be an entertaining and explosive bout these two have a future five-star match
on the horizon and I and the wrestling world cannot wait to see them come to
blows. These are two huge names on the AEW roster and PAC is for sure one to be
considered as a favourite to go on and dethrone the current titleholder. There
are some great storytelling options here and the expectations are very high for
their future one on one match up. Expect a brutal, action-packed collision
between these two.
Jon Moxley’s reign as champion really does promise to be something
special and I honestly hope AEW get it right and give him a lengthy reign full
of brilliant storylines, rivalries and character building for both the champ
and his challengers.
