Asuka's Greatest WWE Matches to Date
As we all know, current RAW Women’s Champion Asuka is one of
the most dominant and beloved stars of the WWE today. From her famous
undefeated streak to her historic reign over in NXT Asuka has won over the
hearts of the WWE Universe and has provided fan with so many amazing moments
both in the ring and as a character. Ahead of her championship matchup against
the Boss Sasha Banks at the up and coming Extreme Rules PPV I’m going to be
taking a look back at some of the Empress of Tomorrow’s best WWE matchups whether
that be in NXT or the main roster. Don’t forget you can get involved and tell
me what your favourite WWE Asuka match is by leaving a comment below or

Vs Becky Lynch (Royal Rumble 2020)
Becky Lynch and Asuka are most certainly not strangers! The
two have done battle multiple times throughout their career all of which have
been strong standout performances, however, my favourite collision of the two
popular female superstars comes from this year's Royal Rumble PPV. Until this
night Lynch had been unable to score a one on one victory over the Empress of
Tomorrow and that was one the key focus points heading into their championship
bout at the start of the year. With Lynch putting her title on the line only
months ahead of the biggest event of the year, Wrestlemania against an opponent
she hasn’t been able to defeat it made for a simple classic storyline that genuinely
had fans hooked. Asuka had developed her character in recent months even more and
was as popular as ever on the night of this bout and with Lynch being one of
the biggest and most popular names in the company this was a must-see collision
between two of the best. The pair, of course, did not disappoint.
What we had here was a classic wrestling match up between two superstars who certainly had their similarities and with the bout being a year in the making this felt big enough to have main evented any WWE PPV. The back and forth action left fans wondering if Lynch would finally be able to defeat Asuka and after many close call Becky did eventually retain her title but it was one of the Irish stars toughest performances and challenges as champion. This was one of those matches that reminded fans of just how good Asuka is as a striker and technical wrestler with her experience coming into play massively. The chemistry between the pair and seeing how far Lynch was truly pushed was fantastic to see and overall made for a career highlight match for both women.

Vs Nikki Cross (Last Woman Standing)
So, we are going back a little for the next match as we take
a look at Asuka’s time on the black and gold brand. As one of the most dominant
champions in NXT’s history, Asuka was apart of some true classics during her time
on the roster but one that cannot be forgotten is her historic last woman
standing contest against Nikki Cross. To this day this remains Cross’ best
singles match in the WWE and a match vastly different to what we typically see
from the Empress of Tomorrow. Using
items from trash cans to kendo sticks as well as ladders and an ending that saw
both women go through the announce table this was a bout far away from what we
typically see from the women’s division (especially a couple of years back when
this took place). The title match which while did not see Cross walk away with
the win did, in fact, put her on the map and saw her stand out for more than her
character work. The style of this match catered to Cross character and in-ring
style perfectly and took the dominant champion to new limits fan had not seen
Asuka reach. This was a breakout performance for Cross but also a standout
during the NXT Championship reign of Asuka.
Kabuki Warriors vs Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair
A match that I don’t see spoken about often at all is the
tag team TLC encounter between the Kabuki Warriors and Charlotte Flair and Becky
Lynch. Taking place only last year this was actually one of my personal
favourite matches of the PPV and a genuine favourite match of mine that we have
seen from Asuka particularly up on the main roster. Similarly, to what we had
seen in her last woman standing match against Cross, fans saw a more ruthless
and barbaric version of Asuka using everything around her to her advantage. This
was a vital storyline in building Asuka and sane as a tag team especially as a
heel team, but it also put a spotlight back on the women’s tag team division which
of course was incredibly needed! What was also so great about this match away
from the action was the history between these two women.
We had the tag team champions, there was the fact Lynch had never beaten Asuka, the history of Flair defeating Asuka at Wrestlemania and what that did was help make this, even more, must see! We had four very athletic superstars, very physical and powerful superstars all of which stood out as the absolute best of the women’s division and when put on a huge stage like TLC they did not disappoint! This was a very physical match up and with the intense history and rivalry of Flair and Lynch it was interesting to see them work together against a unified tag team. There were some unique spots throughout the bout and its most certainly safe to say that this was one of the most physical matches of the careers of all four women and most certainly very entertaining indeed.

Vs Charlotte Flair (Wrestlemania
Charlotte Flair vs Asuka was a match fans had been expecting
to take place from the get-go. A big-time collision between two of the biggest
and most dominant female superstars in the company (arguably in the history of
the company) was inevitable and the WWE Universe were expecting big things from
these two women. Both were at the peak of their careers at the time with Flair
on her way to making more history and dominating the women’s division and Asuka
undefeated in the WWE, the pair had a lot to lose and heading into Wrestlemania
thirty-four this was one of the biggest and most anticipated matches of the
evening. Thinking about it now this could have main evented the grandest stage
of them all for the momentum and star power they both possessed as well as Asuka’s
streak on the line it was a simple classic story that could have seen the women
make history at Wrestlemania. However, despite being booked early into the show
this match went down as arguably the best of the Mania card that year. While their
chemistry may not have been perfect the athleticism of both women as well as
their striking, submission holds, and basic wrestling skills were on clear display
and the brought out the best in one another on the biggest WWE stage. Yes, the decision
to end Asuka’s reign on the night was controversial (and still something I hate
happened) but it worked for it added so much to Flairs character and to this
day is a bragging right she holds onto. To be fair who else would have been perfect
for the job to end such an impressive streak. This was a match worthy of the Mania
stage and while the pair have collided since nothing has quite matched what we
saw from these two on this particular night.
Vs Ember Moon (NXT Takeover Brooklyn III)
To this day my favourite WWE Asuka match is her one on one
NXT Women’s championship bout against Ember Moon. There is a lot of history between
these two women and during their time in NXT, the pair worked some incredible
encounters as they played a huge role in pushing forward the women’s division
following the move to the main roster of the four horsewomen. Now, many may
favour the Takeover Orlando collision between Moon and Asuka however, for me
personally its their meeting at Takeover Brooklyn three that stands out as my
favourite. The intensity was incredible especially from Moon who on this night
really did make an impact ensuring everyone knew her name and capabilities. It
was clear from the get-go just how much this match meant to Moon and from the
early stages, this match proved to be incredibly physical. Asuka showcased just
how far Moon had pushed her and for the first time we saw the undefeated
champion almost pinned and as a result of how much of a challenge Ember proved
to be we saw desperation from Asuka and a side we hadn’t seen before. This was such
an entertaining bout and fans truly did not know what to expect as the end
result and the wrestling was just fantastic between two of the very and most
athletic and intense strikers. This match really did show how amazingly
talented Moon is and its shame we never got to see her perform at that level on
the main roster.
There have been so many other amazing matches from the
empress of tomorrow since she arrived in the WWE and listing just five was not
easy! Many have been underrated and forgotten but the matches above truly have
gone down as some of the best of her WWE career so far. Will her Extreme Rules encounter
with Sasha Banks be another to add to the list? Let me know your predictions
and what has been your favourite Asuka match so far by leaving a comment below
