Characters The WWE Are Getting Right Today

 While we as wrestling fans almost always find something to moan and complain about as WWE viewers thanks to poor booking and character portrayal there is plenty of amazing things happening across the wrestling scene including the WWE. New talent, character direction, storylines, and potential dream matches mean we have a lot to look forward to on weekly products and up and coming shows and PPV events. In today’s blog post we are going to be looking, however, at specific characters across RAW, Smackdown and NXT discussing who is standing out, making an impact and providing entertaining content that keeps us wanting more. These are some of the most exciting characters in the WWE today but talent the WWE is one hundred percent getting it right in terms of character portrayal. 

 

Dexter Lumis

It is no secret that one of my current favourite WWE superstars is NXT talent Dexter Lumis. I recently wrote up an article looking at what makes him the next big thing in the WWE, and I will link that below! The unique star has gripped fans and won over the NXT universe and is destined for great things despite his recent injury. The hybrid talent is someone who can bring plenty to the ring when competing against several different stars with his power, strength, speed, agility, and athleticism. His character work is some of the best in recent memory. The WWE has tapped into what made him an exciting character during his time in IMPACT wrestling and has added a unique twist to it. Unpredictable, fearless and intense, Lumis is unlike any other star in the WWE today and potential storylines and angles are sure to be something very special indeed!

 

The Fiend

While the WWE has certainly made vital mistakes with the Fiend since he was introduced to the WWE roster there haven’t been many at all and Wyatt’s portrayal of this horror gimmick continues to be one of the most exciting and unique elements not only on Smackdown but the entire WWE and wrestling scene today. The haunting mask is still one of the most terrifying things I have seen and little effects such as the red lighting, small appearances and well-timed movements make him one of the most captivating and exciting stars on the scene right now! The recent involvement of Alexa Bliss in the Fiend/Strowman angle and his attack on the former women’s champion again added a new element and unique twist to the character and storyline being told. The WWE continues to walk a thin line with the Fiend and he remains an exciting, thrilling, unpredictable and dangerous stars on the roster but also a genuinely terrifying character gripping fans of all ages.

 

Sonya Deville

Another Smackdown star is up next and a woman I have been loving recently is Sonya Deville. The former Tough Enough star has really come into her own in recent months with her rivalry alongside Mandy Rose becoming one of the most entertaining of the women’s division right now and pushing the up and coming stars to a new level of their careers. This is the best work we have seen from both women since their call up to the main roster but Deville’s portrayal of her heel character has come across exceptionally well! There is something that is separating Deville from the rest of the division and it appears to be a mixture of her image, in-ring style, and the unique obsession with Rose we have seen in recent weeks. Her backstage attack on Mandy in which we saw her cut the hair of her former tag team partner was one of the best things I’ve seen in a while from the women’s division and was a turning point in how Sonya came across as a character giving her more depth and interest. We have also seen the strengths of Deville’s mic work recently and the little facial expression that makes an impact.

 

Randy Orton

When it comes to Monday night RAW its clear that some weeks are far stronger than others but there is one superstar in particular who has been delivering consistently throughout the past few months and he shows no signs of slowing down, that man of course being, Randy Orton. His rivalry with a returning Edge has bee one of the best things to come out of the WWE this year and in quite some time. Fans have always known Orton to be ruthless, barbaric, the legend killer but the WWE have recently been portraying that better than ever. His attacks on legends such as Edge, the Big Show and Ric Flair has been fantastic in recreating his iconic legend killer character and while his in-ring work during 2020  has been some of the best of his entire career it’s the character portrayal and mic work that has been utterly captivating. His intensity, brutality, lack of compassion and believability has again shown him to truly be one of the best heels in WWE history.

Karrion Kross and Scarlett

When it comes to Karrion Kross and Scarlett there really have been no faults so far! I can honestly say that I have enjoyed everything we have seen from these two and the WWE are doing something special indeed when it comes to these two newcomers. The dark and intense portrayal of their characters has been captivating and incredibly entertaining! Kross is a fantastic talent regardless of intensity and a barbaric style that separates him from the rest, however, having Scarlett by his side creates a new dynamic that is unique to the WWE and enters a whole new level of entertaining! Her involvement has been fantastic and evidently key in building the character and momentum of Karrion. The dark visuals, dramatic entrance, promos, and use of the hourglass have created a new feel to the black and gold brand and the angles and storylines are endless and must-see! Kross is also delivering in the ring again with intensity, a barbaric style, and brutality that shows he is completely dedicated to punishing whoever stands in his way.  The booking of Kross’ match with Dominik was something incredibly special!

There are, of course, other WWE superstars who doing an incredible job at the moment especially with character portrayal and during a difficult time we are seeing amazing work across the scene but the names above have gone the extra mile and are making an impact on a new scale!
