Heavily in the Spotlight

Kick-starting her career at the age of fifteen, Mieko Satomura has had an impressive and dominant run. The twenty-three-year veteran has attained the highest available ranking in Japan – Yokozuna- and has spent recent years grabbing the attention of fans, even more, coming back into a greater spotlight at the Mae Young Classic over the last couple of months. Also, in twenty eighteen, Satomura competed in the Femme Fatales tournament with Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw) in which a win over the likes of Wesna, Millie McKenzi and LuFisto walked away the winner of the annual wXw event. Throughout her career, Mieko has proven time and time again to be an excellent in-ring competitor with experience, skill, hard strikes, and passion is so evident in her work, however, despite her talent and popularity amongst hardcore wrestling fans Mieko has never truly been given the opportunity to break out in mainstream wrestling. Appearing at the Mae Young Classic allowed the legend to gain the attention of an array of new fans and the buzz around what she can do is immense right now. There is a demand from wrestling fans worldwide to see more of Satomura is massively high right now and that momentum is something the WWE should truly take advantage of for she is sure to bring a level of excitement and hype to the forever growing women’s division.

The Veteran Needed

As we just touched on, Mieko Satomura has been competing for twenty-three years! That’s longer than I’ve even been alive! Within those twenty-three years Mieko has competed against some of the best names in the business, learned it all, done it all, and is worthy of it all and while the WWE is not the be all and all in the world of pro wrestling it’s the mainstream spotlight she is worthy of but also her presence is something the WWE Women’s division would greatly benefit from.

As of right now, its Evolution returns including Trish Stratus, Lita, and Alundra Blayze that wave the flags for veterans competing in the division and of course full-time superstar Natalya however, aside from Nattie, the WWE is truly lacking veterans in the women’s division. Of course, up and comers and current show stealers are key and bring loads to the WWE product, but the division would greatly benefit from a veteran like Satomura. A woman of her caliber, experience, and skill could really shake things up, change the dynamics, but more importantly add variety to the level of experience and characters amongst the division.

The Mae Young Classic

The Mae Young Classic this year was arguably even greater than the first of its kind. The competition was even tougher, and the variety of characters and talent was immense, however, amongst the mix it was Satomura who stood out for being the most consistent competitor of the entire tournament. Every single bout she competed in was a show stealer. A dream contest between Mieko and Mercedes Martinez, a heart whelming epic showdown between the legend and Toni Storm, and one of the favourites of the entire tournament against NXT UK Star Killer Kelly, Satomura was the star of the MYC in twenty eighteen. Her hard strikes, blowing kicks, and intensity had the Full Sail Crowd up on their feet every single time and fans at home completely invested. We have seen the likes of Io Shari and Mia Yim signed to the WWE and after her phenomenal performance, Mieko must join that list. She was a focal part of the event, an overall standout, and you cannot talk about the Mae Young Classic without thinking and mentioning Satomura.

Dream Matches

After the standard in which she performed at during the WWE MYC, an array of dream matches involving Mieko Satomura and current WWE superstars were created. Opponents such as the likes of Sasha Banks, Natalya, Asuka, and even current RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey, make for must-see matches capable of main eventing any up and coming show. Mieko vs Rousey is a contest that could see the baddest woman on the plant pushed to new extremes and able to shine brighter than ever before but also a rival like Natalya could present fans with one of the best wrestling matches of the decade not to mention the in-ring magic we could see go down between the MYC competitor and the Boss making an even bigger star out of the former NXT Women’s champ. Mieko has all the skill and experience to take the women’s evolution even further thanks to dream matches and rivalries that could easily steal any show.

Its simple, Meiko Satomura deserves the mainstream spotlight that is the WWE. She’s had a taste of it before but with women’s wrestling at an all-time high her presence has never been needed more. It’s now the industry can truly appreciate her skill and experience and in the height of an evolution Mieko will receive a spotlight she has truly always deserved. The Mae Young Classic has attracted new fans, reminded hard-core fans of her capability, and sparked a conversation around the legend.
