Match Recommendations: Women Of the Indie Scene

One of my favourite blog post to write as I've mentioned before is Match Recommendations and I recently touched on the fact that I would be writing more of these kinds of posts, however, instead focusing on specific types of matches. The last version of this post looked at Hardcore matches and today we are going to be focusing on bouts that have stood out on the women's indie scene. When I was away on my little holiday I spent a lot of time looking at the scene and so many matches stood out to me and so I, of course, wanted to write this blog post for you today! We have five must see one on ones to talk about today and so lets jump right into it!

THIS BLOG POST WAS PRE POSTED SEVERAL MONTHS BACK

Ivelisse vs Kiera Hogan

One of the first matches I watched while I was on Holiday was Ivelisse vs Kiera Hogan at the Ladies Night two Show (which you can check out on YouTube) and was one of the main reasons why I wanted to write this post in the first place. I've mentioned these two women in a recent blog post which will be linked below but this was the first time I had seen the pair go one on one and I really enjoyed what we were given. While there were a few "distractions" the two women worked extremely well together creating a story and making a simple one on one feel as though this was a heated rivalry between two women who despised one another. The match ended in a double count out which considering how personal the match got made sense and there was an announcement of a rematch set to take place after the pair continued to brawl after the bell had been rung. It was evident throughout the match that Ivelisse was the opponent with the experience on her side but Kiera did hold her own well and didn't back down to the far more experienced Ivelisse. These are two standout women on the scene right now so defiantly make sure to give this match a watch and check out more work from both these women!

Tenille Dashwood VS Brandi Rhodes

I'll be honest, this isn't the best match in the world. If you go and give this a watch you are not going to see anything near a five star rated contest but what you do get is an entertaining and solid contest between two women growing on the indie scene. Now, it's evident throughout the Tenille Dashwood (otherwise known as Emma) is the experienced veteran in this match and she shows that by mocking Brandi and letting her opponent show just how inexperienced she really is all on her own, making fun of her in the meantime. Brandi however, did too hold her own and got in a decent amount of offense and a few close calls. There were genuine moments where I believed Brandi would get the win here but it was Tenille who was able to put the match to an end scoring another victory. I haven't spoken about Brandi Rhodes much before here on my blog but she is despite not being apart of the wrestling world for very long clearly growing greatly in the ring and getting better the more see of her. Throughout this match, she brought character, in-ring psychology, and pretty solid offense and I'm genuinely excited to see what the future holds for her.

Su Yung vs Kiera Hogan

Another match, another mention of Kiera Hogan and rightfully so, this is a woman who is growing more and more by the day and impressing everyone on the scene. At twenty-three years old she is killing it right now and her falls count anywhere match against Su Yung at Ladies Night was yet another contest that showed her brilliant potential. The match wasn't a wrestling masterclass but in fact an opportunity for Su Yung to show the world what she is all about with this style of match suiting her character while an opportunity for Kiera Hogan to showcase her versatility and just how far she can go. The match wasn't a long one but it was an entertaining fight between two women who are taking over Impact Wrestling and Indie scene. We got some brilliant character work as per usual from Su Yung but I loved seeing Kiera Hogan pick up the victory and in fact, those closing moments were done so so well!

Angelina Love vs Tenille Dashwood

Another woman who has been killing it is, of course, Tenille Dashwood (Emma). Since her release from the WWE Tenille has been on fire competing across the indie scene working several standout matches. So many in fact that I could write a separate list on recommended matches to watch of just hers. However, it was the one on one between Dashwood and Angelina Love that has stood out more than any and was the main inspiration behind this blog post. Despite never meeting in the ring together before this date the two women knew each other extremely well in the ring and were able to both play mind games throughout. Angelina was, of course, a touch more experienced but the two women were so level with one another from their size to their in-ring skill and the action was so back and forth making it difficult to tell who would get the win. Genuinely one of the best women's matches I have seen in possibly of all time its one that deserves to be spoken about more and given more attention. These are two of the biggest female names outside of the WWE and the match between them showed exactly why they are worthy of that title.

Madison Rayne vs Mandy Leon

And to conclude today's blog post we have a round one match from the WOH Championship Tournament between Madison Rayne and Mandy Leon. Now, these are two extremely talented women who really have been apart of some amazing matches throughout their careers. Of course, personally I'm more familiar with the work of Madison Rayne but I have been watching plenty of matches involving Mandy Leon and she is such an amazing talent and that showed in this match. She faired well against the veteran and was able in the end to get the victory which in all honesty I was so happy to see. The pair had solid chemistry, the action was back and forth and the wrestling was really strong. This was a fun match with plenty to enjoy and the timing was perfect. I definitely could have watched them wrestle for a longer period of time but they really did make every second count and this has been a standout of the tournament.

And that is my list! There will be more posts like this coming but for now, any recent blog posts will be linked below and you can tell me what matches you would have added to this list by leaving a comment below or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.
