7 Potential Surprise Royal Rumble Entrants

January, of course, means the start of Wrestlemania season and we kick start the road to the biggest WWE PPV of the year at the Royal Rumble, one of my personal favourite events of the year. With the likes of Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar and Charlotte Flair officially announcing they will be taking part in the respective Rumble matches the predictions have begun and the excitement is in there. Now, the Royal Rumble PPV promises plenty of surprises including entrants in both bouts and today that is exactly what we are going to be focusing on by taking a look at some of the potential surprise entrants in this year’s men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches.

Shayna Baszler

One of the most likely surprise entrants in this year's Women’s Royal Rumble is the former two-time NXT Women’s champion, Shayna Baszler. After her collision with Becky Lynch and Bayley at last year’s Survivor Series PPV saw her walk out the victor many have been anticipating the one on one collision between Baszler and Lynch. Throughout the build to their Survivor Series triple threat many commented on wanting to see the pair compete in a singles bout and in twenty-twenty this remains one of the favourites for the Wrestlemania RAW Women’s championship match. Baszler in recent months has dropped the NXT Championship and after achieving so much in the black and gold brand its time for her to take the next step and walking into the Royal Rumble and possibly even getting the win seems very likely indeed.

Paige

A couple of years back fans witnessed the heartbreaking announcement that Paige would have to retire from in-ring competition due to a serious kneck injury. Fast forward to twenty twenty and while there hasn't been word from the woman herself that she will be returning to action there appears to be plenty of rumours surrounding a possible come back to the ring at the Royal Rumble PPV next week. Now, there is a part of me that thinks this is pretty unlikely but considering the likes of Daniel Bryan have managed to make a huge comeback in the past and so its not completely far fetched.

CM Punk

Okay, so this may be a bit far fetched and hoping for a bit too much but considering he is one of the most talked-about men heading into this year’s Royal Rumble we just had to mention him. Since making an appearance on WWE Backstage late last year, everyone has once again been talking about CM Punk. It appears as though Punk may still be a far away from making a return to the ring, however, it doesn’t stop fans from hoping he does, in fact, make that return and let's be honest, what better way to do so than to enter the Royal Rumble match. This would surely be the biggest entrant and surprise of the evening and with Lesnar confirmed as an entrant the story really does write itself.

Ruby Riott

It’s been a while since we last saw Ruby Riott on our screens but with many fans now discussing her absence even more and sharing ideas about her return could we be about to see Riott make a return at the Royal Rumble? I strongly believe Ruby is one of the most underrated superstars on the roster today and upon a return, I really do hope we see things change for her and see her finally used better and to her full potential. While she wouldn’t be a favourite for the win here it’s a great opportunity for her to make a memorable comeback, have a strong performance and a few standout moments. Not to mention a mini Riott Squad reunion would be pretty awesome!

Matt Riddle

In terms of NXT superstars, we can surely expect to see a few names from the black and gold brand make an appearance at the Royal Rumble and Matt Riddle appears to be a huge favourite. With Brock Lesnar now announced for the men’s Royal Rumble match Riddles name has popped up even more with many including myself wanting to see these two men come face to face. Again, this is quite far fetched and probably wishful thinking but there is no denying how awesome this moment would be and to even see a future bout teased and set up here would make for a standout moment not to mention the other cool collisions we could see between Riddle and several other entrants.

Keith Lee

Another NXT entrant many are expecting to see in this year’s men’s Royal Rumble match is Keith Lee. As one of the biggest breakout stars of twenty nineteen Keith Lee is a man everyone is talking about. He had a killer performance at the Survivor Series PPV in November and seeing Lee collide with Roma Reigns once again would make for a pretty cool moment also. Again, he isn’t one to note as a favourite for the win here but is sure to provide some epic moments and spots and contribute to what is sure to be an epic year for Lee.

Ronda Rousey

Fans haven’t seen Ronda Rousey inside a WWE ring since Wrestlemania of last year and of course many are expecting the former RAW Women’s Champion to make her return to action at this year's Royal Rumble PPV. Another favourite for the win amongst the women’s division could fans really be about to see Ronda Rousey vs Becky Lynch one on one at the biggest event of the year? Of course, this is such an expected matchup for Mania but her return/entrance in the Royal Rumble match would sure make for an epic moment and highlight of the evening.

Of course, we have so many more potentials surprise entrants to expect in this year's Royal Rumble matches. This is an exciting time and PPV and fans can expect an awesome night on the twenty-sixth. In the build to the Royal Rumble PPV I will be posting more pieces like this but in the meantime, I would love to know who you would like to see make an appearance at this years Royal Rumble so leave a comment below or tweet me over at @TezangiVictoria.
