WWE Superstars Who Must Capture Championship Gold in 2020

As we kick start a brand-new decade and welcome in twenty twenty its time to take a look at the next twelve months ahead in the world of pro wrestling and more specifically the WWE. Two thousand and nineteen saw the likes of Becky Lynch, Seth Rollins, Rhea Ripley and Ricochet amongst those to capture gold but as we usher in a new year just who can we expect to pick up a career-making championship victory of the their own? From first time champs to superstars in need and deserving of a new championship reign what can fans expect in terms of future champions in the WWE in twenty twenty?

Aleister Black

Still relatively fresh to the main roster Aleister Black is yet to capture gold and yet to also take part in a major storyline. His recent ongoing work alongside Buddy Murphy has been the highlight of his main roster career so far but combining what we have seen from him already on RAW and what fans witnessed during his time in NXT its clear Black is a major player on the A Show and a big-time future talent. We have begun to see more of black both in the ring and as a character and when keeping in mind his unique image and popularity amongst fans there can be no denying that twenty twenty is sure to be a huge year for this former NXT superstar. Black is both in need and deserving of a championship to elevate his position and give him more TV time but while the US championship creates a brilliant opening for Black and sets up must-see in-ring work between him and Andrade there can be no denying that Aleister makes for a completely new challenge for our current universal champion, Brock Lesnar.

Io Shirai

In all honesty, I’m surprised that Io Shirai hasn’t been crowned champion already. She has, of course, competed in so many standout matchups throughout her time on the black and gold brand so far but is yet to capture gold but twenty twenty could very well be the year we see that change! Colliding with newly crowned NXT Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley appears to be an inevitable meeting that could see Io walk out as champion but with the chances of Shirai making her way to the main roster over the next twelve months could it be the RAW or Smackdown women’s championship that this rising star gets her hands on? Regardless, there is no denying Shirai is ready for a championship and when she finally walks out with gold we can expect and epic title reign whether she is.

Drew McIntyre

There is arguably no current WWE superstar more deserving of a major championship reign than Drew McIntyre. I personally have been massively disappointed with how he has booked on the main roster since his return, but his sheer dominance and potential means the WWE haven’t run out of chances and there is still time to turn things around. McIntyre is yet another name who could make for a legitimate threat Brock Lesnar and his Universal Championship and if I could handpick someone to dethrone the beast in twenty twenty it would be McIntyre. Drew is in a position where this year could make or break him and it's vital the WWE cement him as a top talent in the way in which they did so over in NXT by putting a title on his shoulder and giving him the push we have all been waiting for.

AOP

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, AOP are an incredibly underrated tag team and I’m most certainly a long time fan of the pair. Their dominance, power, and skill despite not being the most experienced superstars on the roster is both impressive and highlights them as future names within the WWE and the tag team division. Now, in recent months AOP has made their return and aligned themselves with Seth Rollins which really does open up some doors for the duo. This alliance has given them a new spotlight and a chance to worker bigger matches against bigger names. There are many angles set up and ready for them over the coming months but capturing the tag team titles is a big-time must for Akam and Rezar! NXT fans have seen them hold gold before know all too well that these two make for excellent champs when booked well. This is the momentum AOP need and the proof of their dominance and position on the roster while adding more fuel to their recently formed team of AOP and Seth Rollins.

Sasha Banks

If I’m being totally honest I was surprised to see that Sasha Banks wasn’t booked to dethrone Becky Lynch at Hell in a Cell in twenty nineteen. A return was a big-time highlight of the year and this very much was a standout of two thousand and nineteen. Looking at the fresh year and Banks’ alliance with Bayley is something that I personally don’t enjoy watching and there is forever a feeling that one will turn on the other. Twenty twenty is an important year for Banks who despite failing to capture singles championship gold last year is a fan a favourite and top name amongst the women’s division and with that being said a title reign is clearly inevitable. There is still hope for Banks vs Bayley in an NXT days style collision but that inevitable meeting must result in banks walking out as the victor and the new Smackdown Women’s champion.

Of course, there are so many other names both worthy and in need of a title reign but the five we have touched on today top the list (in my opinion anyway). I would LOVE to know what you guys think so feel free to leave a comment below or tweet me over @TezangiVictoria letting me know who you want to see given a title reign in twenty twenty.
