Wrestlers Who Had The Best Year of Their Careers So Far
Twenty nineteen has been a huge year for professional
wrestling. From the historic first-ever women’s Wrestlemania main event to the
debut of All Elite Wrestling there has been plenty for fans to enjoy. Two
thousand and nineteen saw NXT takeover more than ever before, new faces rise to
the top, an intergender match main event an IMPACT wrestling PPV and the
ratings war kick start. In the mix of all the action however, there were a select
few who truly did have an incredible year, in fact, their very best to date!
Joey Janela
Signing with AEW Joey Janela has climbed the ladder and been
a standout for the brand. Prior to being apart of All Elite, he was a growing name
on the scene but AEW gave him an even bigger spotlight and so far he has been
sure to make an impact and take advantage of the opportunities he has been
given. Stepping in the ring with names such as Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley, and Shawn
Spears he has competed in some truly epic matches that have put hardcore
wrestling in the spotlight but at the same time he has proven to be more than a
hardcore wrestler and shown he can step in the ring with some of the best there
is and give them a real run for their money.
Bray Wyatt
Two thousand and nineteen was a huge year for Bray Wyatt.
After being out of action for several months’ fans saw Wyatt make a huge return
to action debuting a completely new look. With episodes of the Firefly Funhouse
airing the WWE, universe was introduced to the new version of Wyatt, a children’s
presenter with twisted intentions. We then saw the Fiend arrive and it became clear
Bray was the master of character work and re-invention. After going years never
truly being used to his full potential and having the best of bookings twenty
nineteen saw the rise of Wyatt in a way, we could never have predicted. From
becoming one of the most talked-about talents in the industry to one of the best
characters Wyatt ends the year as Universal Champion and truly one of the best
all-round talents there is in the wrestling world today.
Erick Rowan
For years Erick Rowan has gone pretty underrated and underappreciated
getting lost in the shuffle and overshadowed by superstars he has stood
alongside including Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper for example but twenty nineteen we
really saw him come into his own and make an impact as a solo talent. Forming an
alliance with Daniel Bryan we really did see the monster he is and he eventually
took center stage. His role here was strong and important acting as the muscle
but when Rowan attacked Roman Reigns and we saw a story built from this we saw
a very dominant and standout performance and while his push didn’t last all too
long I do believe there is great storyline potential moving forward and no one
can take away how much he truly peaked in twenty nineteen.
Cody Rhodes
With All Elite Wrestling debuting this year and becoming the
biggest rival for the WWE in years the competition has been higher than ever
and at the forefront of the rating War and the rise of AEW has been Cody
Rhodes. Taking control and becoming the face and heart of All Elite Rhodes has
been the man to push boundaries, act as a rebel and lead AEW into a battle within
the Wrestling world. From sending clear messages to the WWE such as destroying a
throne during the debut PPV (clearly aimed at Triple H) to taking part in one
of the biggest matches of the year against Chris Jericho, we have witnessed
Rhodes prove to be a hugely important figure and incredibly talented star in
the industry. Bouts against the likes of Darby Allen have further proved a
point and there is no denying that he has become one of the biggest names in
the wrestling world today.
Jon Moxley
After departing with the WWE in a pretty shock decision he
wasted no time in showing the world what they had been missing out on for so
long. Signing with AEW Moxley switched sides and joined the rival bran but has
been on fire ever since and there is no denying he has had one of the best
years of his entire career. Finally, not being held back or overshadowed Moxley
has been given the opportunity to show what he is really about. Competing in
fantastic show-stealing bouts against the likes of Kenny Omega and Joey Janela proving
hardcore wrestling can certainly standout in modern-day competition. We also saw him breakout over in NJPW and win gold there too. He has
become a leading top face in AEW and has had a big-time impressive twenty nineteen
with a very very bright and big year ahead of him.
Kofi Kingston
No one quite had a turn around year like Kofi Kingston.
Twenty nineteen was the year fans saw a veteran within the WWE peak after he
was given the push the WWE universe had been waiting for for years. In the
build to Wrestlemania fans truly got behind Kingston and this became one of the
standout storylines of the year. Going into Mania Kingston finally received the
push he has been deserving of for years and was crowned the new WWE champion. During
his reign, we saw him take part in career highlights such as collision with
Randy Orton who he went on to defeat and Kofi really did shine as the man who
won over the hearts of the WWE Universe. Ending the year as one half of the
Smackdown tag team champions its safe to say Kingston has had the best year of
his entire career.
Two thousand and nineteen really did provide us all with
some epic moments but the names above made sure to make the year theirs and end
the decade on a massive high!
