AEW and NXT 2.0 Stars I want to See Capture Gold in 2022
There are so many young and up-and-coming stars over on the
AEW and NXT 2.0 roster who had an incredibly 2021 but could very well be sure
to set have an even stronger 2022. In today’s blog post I’m going to be taking
a look at some of the stars of these two rosters I want to see capture gold
this year! I will be looking at who I think will win titles this year from the
RAW and Smackdown roster in a future post.
Bron Breakker
I’ve had mixed opinions on Bron Breakker from the moment I
first saw him in NXT 2.0 but I have to admit that he is growing on me and I
have no doubt that we are looking at the next NXT Champion here. Since arriving
on the scene Breakker has been nothing short of dominant and has been sure to
make it clear that he is the new alpha of NXT leading the new era. Simply looking
at him you can see this man is bound to be pushed to the stars and so I’m not
surprised at all how quickly the WWE has put him at the top and highlighted
him as the future of the brand. 2022 will certainly be the year that NXT goes
into a completely new era and leading the way will be Bron.
Anna Jay
It's no secret that Anna
Jay has been an AEW favourite of mine for a while now and boy did she have a strong
2021! Really growing and coming into her own the young star grew in popularity
with fans warming to her drastically rooting for the up and coming talent.
Multiple matches highlighted how far she has come in the ring and after ending
the year in a brutal and memorable tag team street fight all eyes are once
again on Anna Jay. With momentum on her side, previous title bouts, and an exciting
pairing with Tay Conti, she’s a female star with a lot coming her way in 2022, and
while it may be a while until we see her there, I really do believe another
title shot and even a potential run with a championship could be on the line
for Jay. Longer matches and future potential split for Anna could result in
that big push that seems to be inevitable at this rate and while I’d rather not
see Jay and Conti split any time soon it's clear the story is being built and a
future match between them could be something really special! Let's keep in mind
the introduction of the TBS championship and the opportunities that could
create for stars like Anna who would benefit from longer matches over the
title, bigger storylines, and a run as champion.
MJF
Not many stars quite know how to play the bad guy on the
level of MJF. Since the debut of AEW the young star has smashed his role as one
of the biggest and best heels not only in the company but in the world of pro wrestling
today and a run at the top is something that surely must be on his way. The
main event scene in AEW is so incredibly strong that it may take just a little
longer before we see him given a title opportunity let alone a run as the champ
but there can be no denying he has every single quality to live up to the high
standards set by future champions and work as a fantastic AEW World Champion.
Throughout recent years MJF has shown the world he doesn’t necessarily need a
title to do any favours to his character however, at this stage of his career
it just seems fitting and right; we have seen him stand against some of the
biggest names in pro wrestling, we have seen him work standout matches and now I
truly believe 2022 is time for the young star to take on a huge role and sit at
the top of the AEW roster as champion.
Cora Jade
War Games was the night of Cora Jade. That spot at the top
of the cage, the storytelling, and the selling of her arm injury was all simply
fantastic. At only twenty years old Cora is so damn young and her future is
incredibly bright but could we be looking at a title run this early into her
career? Well, I don’t think its too far-fetched to believe so. While the NXT 2.0
Women’s division has some strong names and new talent arriving on the scene,
Cora has grown in popularity and momentum winning over fans and becoming the
new top babyface of the roster. She makes for the perfect underdog and with a
few more strong matches and performances she could really have fans pulling for
her to go on and become the next Women’s champion and I really do feel as
though she would make for a fun title holder who brings something very
different to the table as champion than anyone else.
Grayson Waller
I have to admit that in the world of pro wrestling heels, Grayson
Waller is fighting for that top spot and his push has truly come out of nowhere! To be totally honest, a few months ago I had zero interest in Waller and wasn't
particularly impressed by anything he was doing however since War Games all
eyes have been on this young star and it's very clear that 2022 is going to be
huge for him. From an impressive showing at War Games to taking out Johnny
Gargano and standing toe to toe with AJ Styles both on NXT 2.0 and Monday night
RAW Grayson Waller is a fresh talent turning heads and coming for that spot at
the top. A star with charisma, mic skills, and an exciting wrestling style
Grayson Waller has every quality to be a top star and excellent champion in NXT
2.0 and I’m personally really excited to see what the year ahead holds for him.
Jade Cargill
I absolutely love Jade Cargill! Not only does she make want
to live in a gym but on appearance alone, she radiates top star energy and in
2022 I really do believe we could see her reach the top spot. Of course,
compared to so many names within the women’s division Jade is lacking experience
but from day one she has been showcased to be a top star, a powerhouse, and has
grown greatly over the last year in terms of her in-ring talents and character
work. A run as champion is sure to push Jade and force her to step up to a new
level but without risk, you can never truly know what someone is capable of and
I believe that with the right amount of ring time, the correct character work
and storylines Jade could seriously shine this year and set the tone for other
newer, young, fresh talent breaking out.
Jungle Boy
How can you not be rooting for Jungle Boy in 2022? From day
one he has been impressing fans all over the world and has grown to become one
of the biggest and most exciting up and coming talents in the industry.
Throughout 2021 Jungle Boy worked several incredible standout matches both in
singles and tag team competition proving to be a seriously talented all-around
star worthy of holding gold. Now, I don’t believe we will see Jungle Boy as AEW
Champion this year however, a mid-card run is perfectly fitting before potentially
looking at a bigger title opportunity later in the year. I have no doubts whatsoever that he is set for yet another strong year but after what we have seen
over the last twelve months there can be no denying that chasing after AEW gold
is something he truly deserves.
Tay Conti
And finally, I had to mention Tay Coni. Just like everyone
else in this list, Tay had an incredible 2021. From title matches to singles
and tag team contests that highlighted how far she has come as an in ring star
to growing in popularity and becoming one of the standouts of the AEW Women’s
division Tay has come so far over the last twelve months. Looking ahead there
can be doubt that she is set to have another great year especially after her
brilliant performance on the last episode of Rampage closing the year on a big
time high! Over the next twelve months we can expect to see longer matches,
bigger storylines and for sure at least a couple more title opportunities and
with the introduction of the TBS championship there are more opportunities sure to come her way. Tay has grown greatly
and with her popularity being so high right now it makes all the sense the
world to build her up to be a future champion in 2022.
And those are some of the young up and coming stars I want
to see capture gold in 2022. All the stars above had a brilliant year in 2021
but the next twelve months should see these guys and girls get their hands on
the championships they deserve. Of course, I would love to know what you guys
think so feel free to leave a comment below telling me who you want to see get
their hands on a title this year by leaving a comment below or by tweeting me
over at @TezangiVictoria.
