WWE Stomping Grounds: 5 Bold Predictions

This coming Sunday fans will witness the first ever Stomping Ground PPV and with an interesting card it’s a show you will not want to miss out on. Over the past month the WWE has been under fire for its weak weekly product, but can there be a turn around this weekend? If the company are able to book matches smartly and in an entertaining fashion making sure to insert surprises and standout matches, then this could be a surprising standout PPV of the year.

Sasha Banks Returns to Come to the Aid of Bayley

Its been months since fans last witnessed Sasha Banks inside a WWE ring and there has of course been plenty of speculation and discussion surrounding her return and the drama surrounding her absence. Now, there of course are multiple booking options awaiting Banks when she comes back to action but with Stomping Ground providing the perfect set up for an excellent story this Sunday could be the best booking option the WWE will have. With Alexa Bliss set to challenge Banks’ former tag team partner Bayley for the Smackdown LIVE Women’s championship while also have Nikki Cross in her corner a strong set up would see Bliss benefit throughout this contest from having Cross by her side, with the Boss making a return during the match to even up the numbers it allows weeks’ worth of trust to be built back up between Banks and Bayley for Sasha to turn on the champ further down the line.

Drew McIntyre Defeats Roman Reigns

While Roman Reigns may have recently suffered a loss to Shane McMahon, there may just be another loss coming his way when he takes on Drew McIntyre in one on one action this coming Sunday. We have of course seen the pair collide multiple times before, but this could be the best encounter we have seen between the two so far. With that being said it's clear this is a win McIntyre needs to walk away with considering his history in bouts against Reigns, the momentum he needs and the story he is currently working. His alliance with Shane McMahon means it's likely he will be aided in a victory this weekend and the win over Reigns will add to both his and Shane’s story and momentum moving forward.

NXT Call Ups Standout Performance

This weekend’s Stomping Ground PPV will see recent NXT call ups Lacey Evans and Ricochet both compete in championship bouts and while neither is likely to walk out the victor it's important the pair both have a strong showing. We have seen little snippets of what both these superstars are capable of but its time they have the opportunity to show just how strong they are and prove they really are worthy of being champion one day at least. Evans hasn’t been able to show her full potential at all and I’m hoping this weekend we get to see Lynch and Evans given more time where close calls and Lacey’s athleticism is on show. As for Ricochet he too has the opportunity here to be a part of an epic match of the year candidate bout but the most important factor will be time! Both these title bouts need to leave fans talking about Lacey and Ricochet leading to stronger booking in the future.

Ziggler and Kingston Steal the Show

Interestingly, one of the matches I am most looking forward to is the WWE Championship bout between Dolph Ziggler and Kofi Kingston. Here we have an excellent story that involves two of the hardest working, consistent yet underutilised stars in the history of the WWE. Both are fantastic in-ring performers and this weekend I’m confident we will see the very best of them in a match that could not only steal the show but standout as one of the best matches of the year. This is the chance both men have been waiting for and together considering the story, their individual journeys and how much this match means to them we can really expect to this to be a brilliant match up that could and should main event the show.

Lesnar Cashes in… Or Does He

This weekends Stomping Ground PPV also sets up the chance for the WWE to cleverly book Lesnar’s Cash in. He has the chance this Sunday either cash in on Kingston or Rollins setting up a great story and if he is to target the Universal Championship then this could be another smart way to book the title change without effecting Rollins momentum. Interjecting himself into this match would mean it could it, in fact, be Corbin who takes the fall meaning Rollins never really took a loss to Brock at all and creating an opening for the story there. Cashing in on Kingston however, creates a totally new angle and ties in well with the story Kofi and Ziggler had been telling on the night. Lesnar has had a very different journey to these two stars and so his cash in here would make for a great story moving forward.

While this isn’t the strongest card in the world there is potential here for some entertaining and smart booking that results in a great night overall.
