How Drew McIntyre's Alliance with Shane McMahon Could Lead to His Biggest Push Yet

Since making his return to the WWE Drew McIntyre has been a dominant force to be reckoned with. A reign as NXT champion, working as one of the biggest attractions on Monday night RAW and booked in huge matches on the main roster yet progress has been surprisingly slower than many expected. We are yet to see McIntyre involved in a true standout storyline and the Scottish superstar is yet to get his hands on the Universal championship. While there have already been opportunities missed, we are beginning to see an opening for something very special in his new alliance with Shane McMahon but just how will this newly found friendship result and McIntyre’s biggest push to date?

A Tactical Alliance

Since joining the main roster McIntyre has found himself standing side by side with several superstars from the likes of Dolph Ziggler to Baron Corbin and in recent weeks fans have witnessed the former NXT Champion work as muscle for Shane McMahon. While this is an angle, I personally wasn’t originally invested in its something that clearly has great potential and opens the doors for huge storylines for Drew. Moving forward, it's important we see the relationship between these two men grow, this means seeing McIntyre come to the aid of McMahon more often, the two involved in more segments and generally working closer together Shane remaining in this character, going further and pushing this best in the world idea more and more.

Turning on Shane with a Little… assistance

With weeks if not months of working alongside each other there is now a clear level of trust established between both Shane and Drew however, with McIntyre forever looking to prove he is truly best in the world and entitled to so much more than he is getting we eventually see him turn on Shane in a huge beatdown. During the attack, fans see Vince McMahon come down to the ring appearing to aid his son, however, in true McMahon style we see him with a big smile on his face turn on his own son instructing Drew to take the attack even further and come the end of the segment it becomes clear the whole thing was orchestrated by Vince and operation the Chosen one was once again in effect.

Everyone is a Target

In the weeks that follow on from the attack on Shane, we see a new side to McIntyre, an even more intense and barbaric McIntyre. This means no more alliances with other roster members, taking out anyone in sight whether it be babyfaces or other heels on both brands. It means having him appear on any show he wants to because he is the true chosen one and in particular taking out the men, he used to stand alongside including Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley and the Revival to name some. Establishing McIntyre as a truly dangerous and ruthless talent on the roster with no boundaries is vital and with Vince by his side, there really is no stopping him. Adding emphasis on the fact the rest of the roster believe he has gone too far can really add to this story and the serious nature of it.

A Big Win

What McIntyre truly needs before he gets his hands-on championship gold is a big victory. Of course, booking him in longer matches is vital also especially considering we haven’t seen him work a true standout matchup in a while and showing fans just how strong he is really is in the ring is important. Booking him in a contest against a huge star and giving him one massive victory is super important on his road to the top and what better way than have him go one on one with Brock Lesnar. Now, I personally do believe that he should have gone face to face with Lesnar a long time before now and there is a part of me that argues he should have in fact dethroned Lesnar. Now, there may be something missing from this angle considering where Lesnar sits in his career at the moment but there is still plenty to gain from this especially for McIntyre. With promos and segments involving Heyman and Vince, it creates a completely new set up and position for Lesnar. The win will still go down as a massive deal for Drew and give him the momentum and bragging rights he truly deserves and needs.

Becoming Universal Champion

It’s been Drew’s destiny to become Universal Champion since he made his return to the WWE. The win still feels inevitable and colliding with Seth Rollins and dethroning the current champ is exactly what McIntyre needs especially on this journey. From the moment Rollins was crowned champion McIntyre was a huge fan favourite to be the one to dethrone him and a collision between the two once again is also inevitable. A rivalry between these two top stars is sure to take place and its vital McIntyre walks out the victor and new champion. He really is destined to be Universal Champion, and this is the real big step fans have been waiting for! Not to mention that with McMahon pulling the strings and giving him a little help in hand along the way makes for great storytelling.

Drew McIntyre is a massively talented superstar. From his in-ring wrestling capabilities to his character work, McIntyre has come so far and grown to become a talent with serious potential. There are of course, many ways the WWE can give him the push he truly deserves but I have to admit focusing in on the chosen one idea is something I personally do favour!
