Why Impact Wrestling Is The True Best Home for Women's Wrestling Today

We all know just how far women’s wrestling has come over the years. We have seen the changes and the evolution take place right before our eyes and there have been so many special moments throughout recent years. However, with that being said, there continue to be flaws in the world of women’s wrestling particularly in the WWE but there is one promotion that pretty much has it nailed, Impact Wrestling; but what really makes IMPACT such a brilliant place for women’s wrestling today?

Varying Characters

One of the strongest and most standout elements of the IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts division is the varying of characters. We look at the likes of Rosemary, Kiera Hogan, Scarlett Bordeaux, and Tessa Blanchard for example and they truly are all so different in terms of character development. While we are seeing varying characters throughout women’s divisions in the wrestling Impact has it nailed in such a clear and distinctive way. From the scary and intense stars such as Su Yung, Rosemary and the returning Jessika Havok to the powerhouse figures like Jordynne Grace, the sexy but empowering Scarlett Bordeaux, the all round badass Tessa Blanchard, we are seeing so many different types of knockouts and because of that the content and the feuds vary so much also and its massively refreshing and exciting to see to this day!

Multiple Segments and Matches

If you have read my tweets and my blog posts in recent months, years even, you would have seen me complain and vent my frustrations about the amount of time the WWE Women’s division still receive on a weekly basis. A three-hour Monday night RAW product can at times see women still only get around half an hour to forty minutes in total, yet the company continues to rave about an evolution and change. However, in recent episode of IMPACT Wrestling (which only has a two-hour time slot) we saw two strong knockouts division matches one including the Women’s champ, backstage segments and interviews involving Taya, a surprise return, and intergender competition including involvement from Tessa Blanchard. The truth here is clear, within two hours we saw more and stronger female wrestling based content than we do over in the WWE. The knockouts truly feel like an important part of the show, important and entertaining.

Intergender Competition

We only just mentioned it, but Impact Wrestling has been diving in and out of intergender competition for years now and I have touched on that here on my blog multiple times before. Now, while intergender matches may not be a vital area in moving the women’s evolution forward, even more, it certainly does help and the way in which IMPACT has been doing is both smart and massively entertaining. Scarlett Bordeaux’s character may have at times left fans feeling as though women’s wrestling had taken a step (a rather sexist step) backwards, however, for months now her empowering determination and fight has allowed her to become a firm fan favourite and she has been at the forefront of intergender competition over in the Impact Zone. She hasn’t once been made to look weak and with male talent focusing many promos on the Evolution of women’s wrestling, mocking it and speaking down of women it’s had fans completely invested and the content strong and at times controversial. The wrestling that we have seen however has genuinely been strong! Scarlett, in particular, has been such a major standout and with top star, Tessa Blanchard now involved things are only sure to get more intense and interesting. The content here is massively entertaining, and IMPACT has moved leaps ahead of many other promotions in terms of taking women’s wrestling to the next level.

Quality of Wrestling

This one ties in with a point I made earlier showing just how important that time given to female talent really is and how far it can take entire division. What we are seeing on a near weekly stance is fantastic performances from women in the ring and why? Because they have the time, the storylines and the varying of characters. We are seeing brilliant wrestling matches from multiple different stars and it means every week I’m left genuinely excited to see what’s coming up next and what matches are going to be booked. Take Jordynne Grace vs Kiera Hogan as a prime example. The matchup fans recently saw between these two was simply fantastic. While completely different in styles what we saw was a brilliant wrestling match going down as one of the best I have seen from female talent all year around, but this wasn’t just a one-off. We are forever seeing the Knockouts work brilliant matches and its because of time and strong storyline’s they are given. I can honestly say I cannot remember the last time I truly enjoyed a women’s division match up taking place on RAW or Smackdown LIVE.

The Element of Surprise

Another area we often see women’s wrestling failed in is the Element of Surprise, but not over in the IMPACT Zone. From a returning Gail Kim taking on Blanchard to the return of Jessika Havok, we are seeing more and more surprises come from the Knockouts division and keeps things exciting and entertaining for fans. It means audiences are genuinely hooked and interested in what’s going on. We had the surprise “death” of Ali which did in all fairness divide fan opinion but we also had the heel turn of Taya and of course, everything we have been seeing from Scarlett, altogether it gives the Knockouts division a real edge we don’t get to see elsewhere. There isn’t this feeling of predictability when it comes to women’s wrestling in IMPACT and that is such an important element!

STORYLINES!

And Finally, we must touch on storylines. From Scarlett taking on the sexist pigs of the IMPACT zone and the wrestling world, to the must-see rivalry between Gail Kim and Tessa Blanchard to the darkness we see from the likes of Su Yung and Rosemary, their quality of storylines is like no other over in the knockout’s division. We are not seeing repeated or predictable angles but instead genuinely unique and entertaining storylines that leave you wanting more. Instead of the same names taking the spotlight we are seeing multiple different women take on the champ, multiple storylines going on at once and yet all getting the same level of attention. Quality and varying storylines continue to be something the WWE in particular struggle with when it comes to the women’s division but again its an element IMPACT Wrestling has more than nailed.

Women’s wrestling is continuing to grow. There’s no denying just how far things have already come but when we look at IMPACT Wrestling its so clear that they are ahead of the game and have risen the bar massively!
