Top 5 Divas of the year

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World, I hope you are all well  and good. As you are fully aware, my of the year season here on my blog has officially started and has been active throughout the month and December and is expected to continue up until the start of January. In today's blog post we are taking a look back at the divas division once again as I bring you my top five WWE divas of the year. This list will include both NXT and WWE divas. Last year I did actually write a top five and a Diva of the year post separate but I decided to save time and to stop the season from going on for too long I would put both blog posts in one so expect today's post to be a long one! Now, the year of two thousand and fifteen has been absolute amazing for the WWE divas and women's wrestling as a whole. We were treated to several strong storyline's including the rise of the four horsewomen, give divas a chance,  Nikki's title reign, the divas revolution and of course the Bayley VS Sasha Banks feud. We saw the NXT Women make history twice as Banks and Bayley became the first women to main event an NXT live special and the first women to compete in an ironman match. Because of all that we have seen choosing a diva of the year has been long but there truly was only one diva who could take the crown this year. At the end of today's blog post I will be highlighting a couple of other divas who didn't quite make the list but had one heck of a year. As usual I will be linking bellow any recent blog post including the latest in the of the year season and my most recent RAW and Pay per view review and Reactions post. Remember you can still let me know what has been your match of the year and who has been you superstar and diva of the year by leaving a comment bellow or by tweeting me at @TezangiVictoria.

5) Paige
Kicking off my top five WWE Divas of the year is last year's diva of the year, Paige. Now, I will link bellow last year's diva of the year blog post just so you can compare it or give that post another read if you wish. I know I know, I sit here week in and week out moaning about Paige being thrown down our throats left right and centre but when came down to writing my top five divas of two thousand and fifteen I was forced to look back at the past twelve months and there was no denying the simple fact that Paige has been one of the stand out women in the WWE this year once again. She may not have become a three time divas champion this year but she has been in the title picture pretty much throughout the entire course of two thousand and fifteen. Right back at the start of the year we saw the former NXT Women's Champion take on the Bella Twins in a rivalry witch basically ended up lasting around nine months or so. Throughout her feud with the Bella's, Paige went on the hunt for divas to stand alongside her and one of the first women to do was Natalya. On an episode of main event at the start of the year, Paige went one on one with the divas champion at the time, Nikki Bella and to be fair the two were able too put on what was actually really solid and strong match up. It was probably Paige's best match of the year or at least one of them anyway. Throughout the rest of the year we saw compete in several other strong matches against Nikki Bella in particular. Twenty fifteen also saw Paige have her first ever Wrestlemania match when she teamed up with AJ Lee to take on the Bella twins in what was clearly an emotional match for the two time divas champion. A couple of months later she had a mini feud with Naomi who attacked Paige in her home country back in April. Upon her return after shooting her first WWE Feature movie, Santa's little helper, Paige attempted to start a  divas revolution and went straight back on the hunt to find divas who would stand by her and demand a change in the division. A group of divas who also wanted to de-throne the Bella twins. Eventually after taking on Team Bella alone for months, Paige allied herself with Becky Lynch and former NXT Women's Champion, Charlotte to form Team PCB. Now, we all know Paige's track record with friends/allies in the divas division and in October she proved once and for all she really is a diva all about herself when she attacked her team mates and ended up feuding with the new divas champion, Charlotte where the two had several strong encounters until the end of the year. Once again, Paige has had a strong year. She has remained the company favourite in the division with the WWE booking her the strongest of all divas and pretty much keeping her in the championship picture throughout the entire year. We have seen her become one of the strongest stars on Total Divas, she's featured in Santa's little helper, made several big TV appearances and in the ring she cut one of the most memorable diva pipe bombs in WWE history. Not to mention the handful of solid matches she has competed in on RAW, Smackdown, Main event, and pay per views. Despite my persona opinions on Paige there was not a chance in hell I couldn't have her in my top five divas of the year for twenty fifteen.

4) Nikki Bella
To say that my number four entry for my top five WWE divas of the year is controversial is a complete understatement and I'm sure there is going to be a lot of people asking why on earth I have decided to put her in my top five this year but trust me I have my reasons. Despite not being the biggest Nikki Bella fan in the world I cannot deny that two thousand and fifteen has been amazing for her and she has been one of the most talked about and all round improved divas of the entire year. It just wouldn't have been right to not put her in the blog post. The one problem I did have with Nikki this year was how little she defend her championship. To be fair she was always strong whenever she was competing and defending the championship but of course it wasn't enough and I think that maybe if we actually saw more of her defending the title then she might be higher up in the list. Nikki did spend a great deal of twenty fifteen feuding with Paige witch is also not her fault but she always made it work and even though I'm a bigger Paige fan, in my opinion it was Nikki who was keeping this storyline interesting for me. It was great seeing her bring back and use twin magic. It did make her title reign much more interesting and was a great element in building her up to becoming the longest reigning divas champion of all time. It did bring a lot of heat but to be honest entire title reign generated a lot of heat and attention. Back in May (before we saw twin magic make a return) Nikki competed at Wrestlemania, unfortunately not defending the divas championship but teaming up with her twin sister Brie to take on Paige and AJ Lee in what was actually a decent match. An even better match for Nikki was without a doubt a one on one she had against Paige on an episode of Main event back at the start of the year. I do speak more about this match in an up and coming blog post so make sure to keep an eye out for that. In that match Nikki was so impressive and it was one of not many performances that actually proved why she was champion. Throughout the year Nikki and Paige clashed on many occasions and managed to have a couple of really strong matches. However, Nikki's best performance of the year was without a doubt her one on one match against Charlotte back at the Hell in a Cell pay per view a couple of month ago. It was in this match that Nikki really showed how far she had come as an in ring competitor. She was strong, dominate, and hit some amazing spots throughout. It was a case of love her or hate her you cannot deny that has improved massively in the past year. Her mic work is also something that has improved a lot this year as well. One of the biggest diva storyline's of the year was of course Nikki becoming the longest reigning divas champion. I did write about this in full in a blog post uploaded last week so I will link that bellow so you can check it out. But this was one of the most talked about Diva storyline's probably in WWE history. Nikki had everyone talking and even though I was not a fan of her breaking the record, twenty fifteen saw Nikki Bella become the longest reigning divas champion and make the record books. Twenty fifteen has been an insane year for Nikki Bella and I have to admit I have enjoyed watching her and writing about her all year round. She has without a doubt been one of the top divas of the year.

3) Bayley
Up next is the current NXT Women's Champion, Bayley. If you have been reading my blog from the start or even following me on twitter (my social media links will be listed bellow at the end of the post) then you will know that I actually didn't start off as a Bayley fan. This time last year I was one of her biggest critics and as I have mentioned before I just wasn't invested in or entertained by the character what so ever. However, this year, Bayley turnt my opinions around completely and I can now officially call my self a huge Bayley fan. Maybe not Izzy huge but you know what I mean. Her character is one that despite is aimed at the younger audience connects with the entire NXT universe. She manages to genuinely make you happy and that's something that is so so rare in wrestling today. She just put's a smile on my face and makes me feel like I'm a seven year old kid again. What I love even more about Bayley is the fact that she is so much more than a great character. Bayley is simply a phenomenal wrestler. We have always seen her compete to a strong standard in the ring whenever the camera is on her. She has great chemistry with so many of the women on the roster and works amazingly well with every single one of them but this year she was able to bring something very different and we saw Bayley perform to a level that I don't think anyone expected her to perform at. One of the biggest truing points of Bayley's career this year was her performance in the fatal four way match back in February for the NXT Women's Championship. Now she may not have been the winner of the match but she was such a solid stand out of the entire night and she upped her game to a whole new level! She moved around that ring with such ease and like a true veteran. Her place in the match was clear and she delivered spots that had me literally speechless! It was probably that night that my opinions on Bayley took a dramatic turn around. Now, throughout the year of twenty fifteen there has only been one thing on Bayley's mind and that's the NXT Women's Championship. That has been her main focus and her goal throughout her career but this year she changed her attitude and approach completely and after returning from an injury she took not long after that very fatal four way Bayley's road to becoming champion truly began. She had a decent feud with Emma witch added to her momentum and popularity. She then focused on proving herself even more and was able to defeat both Becky Lynch and former NXT Women's Champion Charlotte, who Bayley has amazing chemistry with. Putting on solid matches against all three divas things were looking really really strong for Bayley and the only way was up. But no one could have predicted just how high things would really get for her. Taking on Sasha Banks at NXT Takeover Brooklyn, the two divas fought in one of the greatest matches in NXT history and in the end Bayley finally won the big one when she pinned Banks to become the new NXT Women's Champion. A couple of months later they made history once again where Bayley went on to defeat Sasha Banks in the first ever women's Ironman match and became the first two divas to main event an NXT special. What more can I possibly say? Bayley this year has become a star. She has won over the NXT universe completely taking us all on an amazing journey to her becoming champion. She's made history time and time again and has battled every single diva who has stood in her way whether it be Sasha Banks, Alexa Bliss, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Emma or anyone else. She's one of the biggest NXT stars and after such a phenomenal year things can only get better for Bayley and I had to have her in this blog post.

2) Charlotte
Coming in at number two in my top five divas of the year is the current divas champion, Charlotte. This blog post would not have been complete without Charlotte. She has without a doubt been one of the most important divas of twenty fifteen has played such a vital role in the divas revolution both in NXT and the WWE Main roster. Looking back at what Charlotte has accomplished over the past twelve months is just insane and as someone who has followed her career since she started out in NXT I think it's safe to say the NXT family are very very proud of her. She has proven time and time again she is so much more than Ric Flair's daughter and in twenty fifteen we saw her continue creating her own legacy. The Charlotte legacy. Spending most of the year in NXT we saw Charlotte drop the NXT Women's Championship to Sasha Banks in an amazing fatal four way witch saw the former champ put on one of her best and most memorable performances to date. If there was anyway to drop your championship it was that way and the sign of respect after the match was just a great element. Remember you can read more about this match in my top ten divas matches of the year in a couple of weeks time. Despite dropping the NXT Women's Championship to Sasha Banks, Charlotte never once faded into the background and continued to be one of the most dominate talents on the roster. She continued to have solid stand out matches matches with Sasha Banks and the two made history when they became the first women to main event an NXT event during a tour. Before her call up the main roster, Charlotte also did a great deal of work with Dana Brooke where the two had a mini feud witch despite not being pushed to it's limits had it's good moments, one of them being a tag team match between Dana and Emma and the team of Charlotte and Sasha Banks. It's always going to be a special moment seeing Charlotte and Sasha teaming up again. As the months did go by Charlotte had less appearances on NXT TV but whenever she was on our screens she was one of the stand out's of the night. We saw her team with Bayley at an NXT Takeover event and also take Bayley on one on one in Bayley's road to becoming the NXT Women's champion. In the middle of the year Charlotte along with Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch finally made her much anticipated Main roster debut. Fans had been waiting a long time for Charlotte to make her way to RAW on Smackdown so it only made sense that on the night she did arrive she got the biggest reaction of the three women. Put on team Page aka Team PCB Charlotte was without a doubt a stand out performer in the divas revolution and the WWE didn't make a secret that they were pushing her the very most of all the girls. It was clear she was heading towards becoming the next divas champion and at the Night Of Champions pay per view she finally defeated Nikki to become the second women to hold both the NXT Women's Championship and the Divas Championship in her career. Throughout her title reign we have seen Charlotte get a little lost at times thanks to the WWE paying more attention to other divas but the year of two thousand and fifteen has been truly outstanding for Charlotte. She really has started her own legacy. She's one of the most must see divas on the roster, she has put on some amazing matches against the likes of Sasha Banks, Naomi, Paige, Bayley, and Nikki Bella. She has been right at the front of the divas revolution and of course is a huge part of the four horsewomen. I almost put her as my diva of the year but I think the number two spot is just perfect for Charlotte.

1) Sasha Banks
Deciding on who was going to be my diva of the year for two thousand and fifteen was not difficult what so ever. I was a little stuck between two certain women when I first started taking my notes but in the end there really was only one person who could claim the top spot this year after the phenomenal twelve months she had. This won't come as a surprise to any of you but my diva of the year for two thousand and fifteen is of course Sasha Banks. And I promise this ins't a bias blog post because she's just my personal favourite. When you look back at the past year Sasha Banks has been the most talked about WWE diva and has played one of the biggest roles within re-defying women's wrestling. I don't even know where to begin when it comes down to recapping her greatest moment of the year. If we go back to late twenty fourteen we saw Sasha finally make her true mark in NXT after having great match after great match against Charlotte. We saw the boss chase after that NXT Women's Championship like her life depended on in it and when we reached February of two thousand and fifteen she finally found herself winning the big one and walking out as the third NXT Women's Champion in history. The match: a fatal four way. The contestants: Charlotte, Banks, Becky Lynch, and Bayley. This was the start of something completely different. We had already seen the NXT women make a statement and prove that women's wrestling is something very different there than it is on the main roster but there was something about this match that just upped the standard to a whole new level. Sasha found herself allying with Becky Lynch a couple of weeks before this very match and throughout the first five minuets or so of the fatal four way we saw the two of them work together to take out Bayley and Charlotte but once the match truly became every diva for herself Banks found herself fighting alone once again. Despite being the smallest of the four women Sasha was without a doubt one of the top stand outs. Whether if it was story telling, going through ropes, or selling like a true boss, everyone had their eyes on Sasha Banks and in those closing moments she was finally able to pin Charlotte to pick up the biggest victory of her career. From that night onwards Sasha became the new face of the division. It didn't matter if you loved her or hated her you had something to say about Sasha Banks and you wanted to see her wrestler. Throughout her title reign she proved to be a fighting champion. Taking on every challenger from Dana Brooke, to Becky Lynch to Bayley to Charlotte and every single one of her matches were of such an unbelievably high standard. Take her one on one against Becky Lynch at NXT Takeover Unstoppable for example. I remember watching this match and just being completely blown away. She once again upped her game and raised the bar even higher. I literally lost track of how many times I actually watched this match over the year. From that point onwards there was just no stopping Sasha. It was strong match after strong match and she became not only the face of the NXT Divas division but one of the most must see NXT talents taking gender out of the equation. One of Sasha's highlights of the entire year or in fact of her career was without a doubt her storyline with Bayley. Back at the NXT Takeover Brooklyn show the two of women had the most talked about match of the night and just when you thought women's wrestling couldn't get any better the they both managed to provide us with one of the best matches of the entire year. She may have dropped the title on the night but Sasha proved at this event why she for the past year has been called one of the greatest female wrestlers in the world. The Takeover match then led to something even bigger as Banks and Bayley made history once again becoming the first women to main event an NXT Takeover event and the first two women to compete in an ironman match. I have written about this match in a blog post uploaded last week so I will link that bellow at the end. Throughout that match Banks was on fire! She had everyone on their feet and saying something about whether if it was a good or a bad thing. I mean come on, how often do we see a heel go to such lengths as making a kid cry during the match? We then have her main roster work. It was in July that we saw Sasha get the call up to the main roster where she allied her self with Naomi and Tamina to create team B.A.D where she naturally took the leadership role. The fans were chanting for her every single week and whenever
she was in the ring she had everyone paying attention. She pushed other divas to their limits forcing them to up their game when they were competing against her. She attacked Natalya, she defeated
former divas champions, and really was the Boss of team B.A.D. This year there really has been only one true diva of the year. Sasha Banks. Whether you love her or hate her your speaking about her. At only twenty three years old Sasha has managed to become one of the best divas the WWE has ever seen and one of the best all round performers in NXT. Every single match she competes in whenever it be seven minuets, seventeen minuets, or twenty seven minuets she puts her everything into it and manages to come up the stand out regardless of the ending. Major WWE legends like Stone Cold Steve Austin and Chris Jericho have praised Sasha not to mention she had an amazing podcast interview with Jericho witch I will try and link bellow as well. She's main evented live specials and tour dates and earned the right to be names one of the best female wrestlers in the world, and at such a young age and with still so much left to accomplish in the WWE, I can only imagine what twenty sixteen holds for her but for now Sasha Banks is my official WWE Diva of the year for two thousand and fifteen.

So there we have it! Sasha Banks is my two thousand and fifteen WWE Diva of the year. Let's be honest, there really was no other diva or should I say women worthy of the position, but do you agree with the list? Let me know who has been your diva of the year by leaving a comment bellow or by tweeting me at @TezangiVictoria.
