Six Steps in Pushing Finn Balor Back to the Top

Anyone who has been following my blog and reads my tweets will know that I have been a Finn Balor fan for a very long time. Prior to his WWE career, Balor as Prince Devitt was someone I massively enjoyed watching and so, of course, I was delighted when news broke of his WWE signing a few years back. With an iconic run down in NXT, a memorable title reign, and an array of excellent matches the future looked very bright for Balor who from day one was pushed as the next big thing. Fast forward to today, however, and things look the complete opposite to what fans expected to see from Balor up on the main roster. With things going so terribly wrong for the Demon King how exactly can the WWE turn things around? Will things improve? And how/can he climb to the top?

THIS POST WAS PRE POSTED

A Move to Smackdown LIVE

The first step I honestly believe the WWE must take to push Balor back to the top is moving him to Smackdown LIVE. The chances of the former NXT champion climbing back to the top while a member of the RAW roster at this point seems very unlikely. While there is an array of WWE superstars Finn could and has worked excellent matches against including Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Bray Wyatt as well as feuds against opponents that create amazing potential and sense such as Brock Lesnar, there are no signs of the WWE focusing on him in the coming months. The roster is stacked full of other men the company are likely to push first leaving Balor falling lower down the ladder. He’s been forgotten about, weakly booked, and lacking consistency over on RAW and with the blue brand naturally being smaller and greater opportunities clearly awaiting him the move is a vital step forward for Balor.

Reuniting Balor Club

The fact we haven’t ever really gotten a lengthy amount of work from The Club and Finn Balor together is surprising. We’ve seen glimpses and its clear that the WWE could of on many occasions really created something special that rivaled what we saw from the Shield. If Balor was to move to Smackdown LIVE one of the main focuses would most certainly be on reuniting him with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. The three have a popular successful history working together, the chemistry I strong and the storyline’s awaiting them are endless and have serious potential! Not only is this a step that massively helps Finn but with Anderson and Gallows also fading into the background this is a huge decision these two would also greatly benefit from. A dangerous, intense, and entertaining faction is something Smackdown LIVE is needed and while Sanity are currently waving that flag things haven’t quite gone to plan and the impact the Balor Club could create is huge! Not to mention Sanity vs Balor Club is something I know I can seriously invest in!

A Heel Turn

While Finn works as a convincing and likable babyface his career overall has shown that he can also take on the role of a heel exceptionally well. Throughout his run on the indies, Balor was a captivating and seriously entertaining bad guy creating the type heel that really has fans feeling something. Aligning himself with Anderson and Gallows creates the perfect opportunity to see the old school Prince Devitt come to into the spotlight and that in itself is a big enough change to really create a buzz around Balor again. A new role, a new position on the roster is exactly what he needs, and this creates feuds and angle we haven’t seen from in the WWE, an exciting new direction that too is vital!

Step Away from Comedic Angle and Allow Natural Charisma

Finn Balor is a massively creative and charismatic star. Again, looking back at his career prior to the WWE and you will spot videos of the once NXT champion dressed not only as the demon king but as the likes of Jack the Ripper and the Joker. It’s parts of his character like this that WWE fans haven’t truly been exposed to. His NXT Takeover London showing saw him rock the Jack Ripper style entrance and gear but since then the WWE has stuck to the typical Demon King image on special occasions. Allowing this other side of character to shine through can really separate him from the rest not to mention Balor in a deeper character like the ones we have mentioned makes for an even more intense and entertaining rivalry with the likes of Jeff Hardy and Sanity.

Longer Ring Time

This one is an obvious one but giving Finn more ring time is extremely important. This doesn’t mean we see him thrown into twenty-five-minute matches every week but more frequent performances that are lengthy and against opponents that really draw attention and create must-see bouts from is key. Over on the blue brand its matches against names including Andrade Cien Almas, Shinsuke Nakamura, Eric Young, and AJ Styles amongst many that could create not only standout matches of the year but possibly of all time. Its here fans can be reminded of the fantastic in-ring performer and pro wrestler Balor is. Booking him stronger and in these kinds of matches will re-establish the major star that he is and that is something that is majorly overdue.

The Main Event Spot and WWE Champion

Since the moment he signed with the WWE there has been no doubt that Finn Balor is WWE champion material. His character work, his look, his likability and popularity with fans, his in-ring skill, and wrestling ability create the perfect candidate for a WWE champion. While his reign as Universal champ was cut short due to an injury the WWE has had many chances to turn things around with several storylines creating an opening for him to enter back in the main event picture and own another title reign but that hasn’t happened, and it may not happen on RAW. Over on Smackdown LIVE, there are greater opportunities. A run as WWE champion fits Balor perfectly. He makes for an exciting title holder and owning that position on the roster and the WWE is a prospect I’m a massive fan of.

And that is the end of today’s blog post. In the coming weeks, I’m going to be looking at how I would book Finn Balor’s journey to becoming WWE champion so keep an eye out for that!
