Six Best WWE Divas Champions

Throughout the past week or so I have been diving into the history of the WWE women’s division looking particularly at the diva's era and that continues today as we list some of the best diva’s champions of all time. Now, during this era despite the lack of in-ring time, weak character build and terrible storyline’s the roster always had great talent amongst its divas division who unfortunately didn’t get the time, attention or respect they deserved. Throughout those years we did see some great moments and a handful of fantastic champions so let’s take the time to give those women the time, attention and respect they always should have been given!

AJ Lee

My personal all-time favourite WWE Divas champion was, of course, AJ Lee and I’m confident this will not come as a surprise to anyone reading this. Creating a completely different image in a time where the model look was the diva look the WWE were chasing Lee changed the game and raised the bar. Her lengthy reign as champ went down in history for a couple of years, she worked a brilliant rivalry alongside Kaitlyn and her work with the women of the total divas cast was a strong element of her championship reign and character development. To this day Lee remains one of the most entertaining and charismatic champions in the history of the women’s division.

Eve Torres

A woman who really was a massive victim of the diva’s era was Eve Torres. Athletic, beautiful, and full of potential Eve brought as much to the table as she possibly could for the time in which she was apart of the WWE. During her time with the company, Torres was involved in multiple storyline’s including angles with top male talent such as John Cena but after three reigns as divas champion, there was truly no denying just how great of an asset Eve was to the diva’s division. She genuinely had some great spots whenever she stepped in the ring, worked as both a great babyface and a fantastic heel and brought variety to each of her reigns as champion.

Nikki Bella

Love her or hate her there is no taking away the fact Nikki Bella was most certainly one of the best divas champions of all time! Her final reign saw Nikki prove critiques wrong whenever she stepped in the ring working great matches against the likes of Charlotte Flair and Paige. She defended her title regularly, was involved in some of the best storylines' in the history of the diva's championship and talking of history she went down as the longest-reigning divas champ of all time. Nikki really did step up to the plate during her final run with the title and for many brought a degree of attention to the title we hadn’t seen before.

Kaitlyn

Throughout today’s blog post we have seen Kaitlyn’s name pop up and rightfully so. Her storyline’s and work alongside the likes of former champions AJ Lee and Eve Torres in particular made for standouts in the diva's division at a time were women didn’t get a great deal of focus and attention. She was a powerful and dominant champion who created a huge buzz around the title picture and around herself as a WWE diva with her later work against AJ Lee going down as one of the best and most gripping angles in the history of the diva's championship. Kaitlyn’s return to the WWE ring at last years Mae Young Classic had me and many more massively excited and after looking better than ever I really am hoping to see a full-time return from the hybrid diva.

Beth Phoenix

As the most dominant champion on today’s list Beth Phoenix is a woman who could not go unmissed here. The now Hall of Famer has achieved so much in her career and growing up she was a woman I loved watching and a woman who massively inspired me! Her reign as champion after defeating Kelly Kelly at the hell in a cell PPV was one that really was what had me so invested in Beth and women’s wrestling. Throughout her reign, she was dominant, powerful and took on challengers of any kind. Not to mention that out of everyone on this list today it was Beth I felt brought that unique factor and created something completely different during her reign.

Michelle McCool

And the final name I wanted to discuss today is of course, Michelle McCool. As the first ever WWE Divas champion Michelle was the woman to set the bar and kick start something new and she did a great job! The perfect pick as first-time champion Michelle became a key factor of the diva's division and throughout her career dominated the female roster with her strong character work and character development, alliance with Layla and memorable reigns as champion. One of the only women to hold both the women’s and Divas titles Michelle McCool is most certainly a future Hall of Famer in her own right and for anyone my age, she was a regular face on WWE tv we all enjoyed watching!

While the diva era was a difficult one for women in the world of pro wrestling we did see some great moments and fantastic champion as we have highlighted today and I have to admit I really am enjoying re-living this era in my most recent little series here on my blog but I would love to know what you guys think and who your favourite divas champion was by leaving a comment below or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.
