WWE Backlash 2020 Must Moments
This weekend WWE Backlash will take place and after an entertaining
NXT Takeover in Your House only a week ago the stars of the main roster have a
lot to live up to! However, with the promise of the “Greatest Wrestling Match
of all time” between Edge and Randy Orton as well as title matches and bouts
with great potential fans could be in for a strong Backlash PPV this coming
weekend. Today, however, we are going to be diving into some of the musts for
this live special from title changes, end results and surprises so grab a
little bite to eat, and let’s jump into things!
The Fiend Returns
This weekend Braun Strowman will be competing in handicap
action when he faces off against John Morrison and the Miz. The former tag team
champions have been pranking, blindsiding, and getting the under the skin of
the Universal Champion for weeks but will they be able to walk out victors this
weekend? The short answer is no. While the build has been… entertaining, to say
the least, it is Strowman sure to walk out with the win however, we can expect
to see the Handicap situation benefit Miz and Morrison. What I would love to see, however, is for Bray Wyatt to in a way assist Strowman in the win only to then
see the Fiend make a return and target the champion. Things are far from over
between Braun and Wyatt and introducing the Fiend to their story is key and
sure to lead to another title win for Bray/the Fiend. Regardless of how it's
done, this is a return we need to see this weekend and for the Fiend vs Strowman
to come to light.
Lashley has a Standout Performance
Bobby Lashley has deserved a major title opportunity like
the one he is receiving this weekend for quite some time! Since his return to
the WWE a couple of years ago I have personally been wanting to see him not
only chase the WWE Championship but have a reign (a singles feud with Brock Lesnar
was something I was gagging for!). This Sunday at the Backlash PPV Lashley will
face off against Drew McIntyre in what is one of the biggest matches of his
career and while he is unlikely to score the win this time around its vital the
destroyer has an epic performance that goes down as a career highlight. This
may not be a man bursting with charisma, but Bobby Lashley has exactly what it
takes to be a major champion in the WWE once again, and it's so important we see
that this weekend. Both men are powerhouse superstars who have agility and a secret
weapon on their side with Lashley’s being his MMA background. While I would
love to see Bobby as WWE champion one day, I don’t think his time will be this
weekend but it's so important he at least has a strong showing.
Lana Costs Lashley the Match
I have said it before and I will say it again, I’m so over
Lana and Lashley as an on-screen couple. While it had its entertaining sides at
the start the two are not connecting with fans and their angles and storylines
are limited. We have seen “problems” between the pair and conflict, and it
would be great to see that continue leading to them heading off in their separate
ways or at least spending less time together on screen. Costin Lashley the
match this weekend, one of the biggest and most important of his career is sure
to be an easy way to further cause a divide and see the pair head off into
something new on their own and potentially a rematch for Lashley in the future
and another title opportunity where the result may just be different…
The IIConics Are Cheated out of a Win
I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of Banks and Bayley holding
the tag team championships right now. The women’s tag division is growing and
there is a lot of potential there and I don’t feel as though they truly need
the reign. The IIConics however, are the women I believed would go on to dethrone
Cross and Bliss when they returned a couple of weeks back. With that in mind, this match does at least promise to showcase the potential of the women’s tag
division and I really do hope we get a lengthy bout here. Will we see a title
change? I don’t think we will, but I do believe what would work is to see the
IIConics get cheated out of a win. With Peyton or Billie closing in on a
victory only for Banks and Bayley to pull them put the ring and get the win
themselves is something that would work and at least keep the IIConics in the
title scene moving forward. It also foreshadows what we saw at Wrestlemania
last year with the IIConics doing exactly that to get the win themselves.
Apollo Crews Defeats Andrade
I really do hope the WWE give the United States Championship
match a lot of time this weekend and at least hits the fifteen-minute mark.
These are two incredible performers and athletic superstars and when given the
time they could so easily take part in a standout match of not only the evening
but of the year. This could be a career highlight for Crews and truly kick
start his reign to a new level. There is a lot of potential for Apollo’s
championship reign and I hundred percent want to see that continue on. A strong title defense is key this weekend in
a fantastic match up concluded with a big win. There will be plenty waiting for
Andrade after a loss this weekend.
I do believe this is a pretty predictable card but there are
some gems here that could surprise us and actually standout as great matches of
the night and of the year. There are some great opportunities to see storylines
develop also as we edge closer to SummerSlam. I will be live-tweeting this
weekend so join me over at @TezangiVictoria and let me know what your
predictions are for WWE Backlash this weekend.
