Smackdown Must Opponents for Matt Riddle

As we found out last week, NXT Superstar Matt Riddle is now the latest member of the Blue brand joining Smackdown very soon! With Kurt Angle announcing Riddles move to the main roster fans are expecting great things from the King of Bros and former tag team champion and after a fantastic run over in NXT the WWE Universe are potentially looking at the next best thing on Smackdown LIVE, a future champion and a superstar sure to rock the boat on Friday nights. With an already stacked roster there are endless dream opponents awaiting Riddle and so today we are going to be taking a look at some of the names I cannot wait to see Matt step into the ring with as he arrives on Smackdown.

Daniel Bryan

Despite their size difference Daniel Bryan and Matt Riddle make for the perfect opponents for one another and fans are sure to see a memorable classic go down between these two superstars. Both comfortable on the mat and within submission holds the pair would most certainly collide in a true wrestling match that reminds fans just how technically skilled both men are. While these are not two extra, over the top characters their laid back persona’s are sure to complement each other and this is a prime example of a match that doesn’t need a heavy storyline and intense build, simply putting these two in the ring together for twenty minutes is sure to provide fans with a must-see match of the year contender with both men certainly sue to compliment each other in the ring.

Baron Corbin

Okay, hear me out. When It comes to character development and showing the best of Matt Riddle's character, I genuinely believe Corbin is the man for the job. As one of the best heels on the blue brand right now (and arguably in the WWE as a whole) it makes sense for Corbin to mock the newcomer and with Riddles laid back attitude he pair are sure to gel well together in promos and segments that will most certainly keep us entertained. Corbin works as a brilliant welcoming opponent for Riddle to showcase some character to fans who may not be aware of him and his work while also showing what he brings to the table against a bigger superstar with a little more power than Riddle.

Shinsuke Nakamura 

It can be so easy to forget just how bloody brilliant Shinsuke Nakamura is. His poor booking and the short matches he takes part in means we don’t get to see the true depths of his skills and experience but what we have here in Shinsuke is truly one of the best pro wrestlers on the roster right now! Putting Nakamura in a lengthy bout against Matt Riddle is sure to provide fans with a bout that reminds us all that in Nakamura we have a man that could so easily be a world champion. The intense strikes and general style both men possess within their move sets means they are sure to complement each other and compete in a hard-hitting must-see bout. Both men always look to go that extra mile and are emotional performers, book them one on one and we are getting a career highlight for both superstars and a potential career turn around for Nakamura.

Drew Gulak 

I do really love Drew Gulak. A fantastically skilled in-ring performer 2020 has really been his year and fans have seen him compete in some great matches and a relationship develop between him and Daniel Bryan. The arrival of Riddle means we have another great technically skilled star on the blue brand and while Riddle and Gulak have a clear size difference we could see something so incredibly special here that again works as a highlight for Gulak emphasizing his talent but also potentially see anew side to Riddles move set.

Cesaro

A match that has been on my dream matches list for a while is Cesaro vs Matt Riddle and it looks as though we are getting closer to that bout taking place! Cesaro while incredibly underutilized is one of the best all-round in-ring performers with strength, intensity, power, skilled wrestling abilities, and diverse move set on his side. Throughout his career, Cesaro has been apart of some fantastic matches but the WWE has never truly given him the push and direction he deserves. Now, unfortunately, I cant see his luck changing any time soon but if you want to get the very best out of newcomer Matt Riddle then the WWE has got to put him in a lengthy bout against the former champion. Again, there are similarities between these two superstars within not only their size and height but their styles in the ring. Both are diverse performers that keep things simple but so incredibly impressive. These are two men that can captivate an audience without having an over the top character or dramatic build to a bout. Sure to complement each other in the ring and provide a standout match we are looking at something that could be truly special.

AJ Styles 

Also recently moving to Smackdown, AJ Styles is looking to close in on becoming the new IC Champion, and regardless of the outcome of that match up against Daniel Bryan, a one on one with Matt Riddle down the line is a must! Yet another dream match for so many the two men both give off the vibe of being two of the best wrestlers on the scene today. Coming up to the main roster, Riddle will be looking to make a Big Impact and while he is sure to compete in several great matches it’s a singles bout against a top star like Styles that is sure to cement Riddle as a top main event star and take him from a great wrestler to a man fans can see as becoming a world champion someday. It would be great to see these two styles collide in the ring and we are sure to see a fantastic wrestling match for the ages between these two.



I don’t know about you but I’m very excited to see Matt Riddle join the Smackdown roster! There are some amazing matchups and storylines awaiting Riddle and I do believe he is bringing something very exciting to the table.
