NXT Review and Reactions

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World, I hope you are all well and good! I'm back today with my first Review and Reactions post of two thousand and sixteen. I know it's been a while since a last wrote and uploaded a Review and Reactions blog post but I really want to try and bring them back to my blog because I know how much you guys love to read them and I really do enjoy writing them so  here's the first one and I thought it would be great to bring it back with an NXT review. I have loads of new blog post coming up in the next month as my routine gets back on track. As usual, any recent blog posts will be linked bellow and you of course can let me know what you thought of this weeks NXT by leaving a comment bellow or by tweeting me at @TezangiVictoria.

This week saw Sami Zayn kick start NXT with a one on one match against Adam Rose. Of course Zayn got a huge pop and the crowd remained behind him throughout the whole match but it was clear that the crowd didn't really know how to react to Rose. There's this level of loyalty and respect the Full Sail Crowd have for NXT talents whether if they are still active members of the roster or NXT graduates. The Ascension are a great representation of that. Clear heels up on the main roster and a lack of connection with the fans up on the main stage but whenever they return to NXT they receive such a strong reaction from the full sail crowd. Adam Rose however didn't get that last night. It was like the crowd just didn't know how to respond to him and it just went a little quiet. Saying that, he did work as a solid heel last night, remaining in character and really taking it to Zayn despite not having that much time to actually compete. Anyway, this match wasn't about Adam Rose at all. As we saw last week it was announced that Zayn, Baron Corbin, and Samoa Joe will face off in a triple threat next week to determine the number one contender for the NXT Championship, and so last night was all about gaining momentum for all three of these superstars. This one was a simple match. Typical heel VS top baby face match but it was what it was and did what it needed to do. Zayn spent the first little half of this match in control, wasting no time but Rose did spend a great deal of time dominating the match and Zayn but of course it was the fan favourite in Sami who picked up the victory in the end. Predicable but a nice little start to the show. Nothing more and nothing less than I expected.

There was then a couple of backstage segments and interviews including a well constructed interview with Johnny Gargano before he's big main event match with Samoa Joe. We also had an amazing little segment/promo with Chad Gable and Jason Jordan. Honestly. this was one of my favourite parts of the night. The pair have such great chemistry and are so effortlessly funny and entertaining. I probably enjoyed this little segment way more than I was supposed but it was great. The more we see and hear of them the more I fall in love with them. It was also announced by the pair that next week they will take on the team of Buddy Murpthy and Wesley Blake. Now, that's a match I'm looking forward to. Two of my favourite Tag teams going at it.

After loosing to Baron Corbin at NXT Takeover London last month, Apollo Crews was up next on the hunt for some momentum as he took on Tye Dillinger. These two have faced off against one another on several occasions so we know what they can do to one another. They have a decent amount of chemistry and work really well together. Both received a great reaction from the crowd but I'm not gonna lie for me this was all about Tye Dillinger. He was very entertaining last night and the perfect ten gimmick just gets better by the day. The thing with Dillinger is he has been wrestling for so such a long time, he has so much experience but he has been waiting on the shelf for so long, just waiting for he's moment and he really does deserve all the attention he receives. Do I think he will get a big push any time soon? No, not at all but he's so over right now and when a superstar is generating that much attention they can't be ignored. Last night he had a great show of performance. The crowd were behind him throughout the match (just as much as they were Apollo), he held he's own perfectly, putting up a good fight but it of course wasn't enough, picking up a very impressive victory showcasing he's great strength and powers, Crews made the first step forward in getting back on track picking up the victory over Dillinger. After the match Apollo cut a little promo (he's mic work still needs a little improvement but it's nothing major) focusing he's attention on Finn Balor, requesting a none title match against the NXT champion to finish off what they started a thew months back. Later on in the night Finn accepted the challenge during a backstage interview. Yet another match I look forward to.

Rich Swann made he's debut last night when he took on Baron Corbin in one on one action. I'm sure most of you already know of Rich and were just as excited to see him arrive in NXT last night as much as I was. If you have seen Rich compete before then you know that he is such an amazing talent. So so skilled, very experienced, and has so much to offer. Last night he gave the NXT universe a little taster of what he is capable of and what he can bring to the table. Very fun and exciting to watch, pulling some amazing, impressive moves against the much larger Baron Corbin but despite he's efforts last night it wasn't enough to knock off Corbin who was in need of keeping he's momentum at a high before taking on two of the biggest names in NXT history, Sami Zayn and Samoa Joe next week in what is set to be an amazing triple threat match up. There were a couple of close calls in this match, with Swann almost pulling off the upset but Corbin had a solid performance showcasing he's strength and power massively throughout the whole match. I know Baron gets a lot of heat but he really is going in the right direction. He's getting better and better as the weeks go by and the more we see of him the better he really is going to get. Give him a chance.

After being left the last women standing in last weeks number one contenders battle royal for the NXT Women's Championship Carmella teamed up with her best friend, the champion herself and her future opponent, Bayley to take on the team of Emma and Alexa Bliss with Dana at ringside. I want to start off by just quickly saying how much I love the fact that the women's matches down in NXT are now announced as women's division matches instead of Divas matches. I know it's a small thing but it's the small little changes that really show the difference in respect for the female talent on the main roster and in NXT. I also need to say how great it was that the battle royal for the women in NXT is exactly the same as the superstars'. Unlike the main roster, the women had to go over the top rope to actually be eliminated. Once again, a little change but a big deal. Anyway, back to last night and despite not getting along or liking each other very much, Alexa Bliss and Emma managed to eventually work really well together, taking out Carmella and double teaming Bayley before the match had even properly started gave them the head start as they dominated most of the match, taking it to the champion preventing Bayley from making the tag. The pace of the match changed when Carmella was eventually able to make the tag and join the action. Not holding nothing back Carmella, showcased some of her best moves in a short amount of time and eventually was able to force Bliss to tap out picking up the victory for her and Bayley. Carmella really has come such a long way in the past year and has seriously earned the right to have a championship match. It is as well refreshing to see a friendly feud for the championship. How long that will actually last I don't know but it's nice seeing something a little different. Carmella needed to pick up that win last night as her momentum continues to get stronger and stronger in the build up to her championship match.

And finally, the main event, Samoa Joe VS Johnny Gargano. As soon as I heard this match
announced I was excited for it. Two phenomenal talents going one on one in what was bound to be something special I was really looking forward to what they were going to bring to the table. Saying  that, despite the match being great I do think if they had even longer it could have been a solid contender for match of the month. But for the time they did have they both put on a great performance and a strong match up. Both superstars had their own little stand out moments but this match was easily all about Samoa Joe. It didn't matter what Johnny threw at him, Joe always had something waiting around the corner to put him right back in control. Throughout the match Joe wasn't giving too much away, keeping he's game face on from the start right to the very end and even seemed content with a count out victory but in the end Joe was able to lock in the Coquina Clutch to pick up the victory leaving all three of  next weeks main event competitors picking up the victory in all their one on one matches of the night. All of them walking into the triple threat with enough momentum. Next week I'll be back with my NXT review again where this time I'll be letting you know what I thought of that massive triple threat main event!
