5 Mistakes the WWE Have Made with Drew McIntyre

Since arriving back in the WWE Drew McIntyre has had an interesting journey. His NXT run was strong and entertaining with a babyface role over on the black and gold brand he became champion early into his return and had plenty of momentum on his side. Moving over to the main roster and McIntyre has always had plenty of potential and the WWE have booked him differently and pretty damn smart, however, a couple of years into his main roster run and things haven’t quite reached the level at which we expected for McIntyre and its clear many mistakes have been made.

Losing to Roman Reigns

Throughout most of twenty nineteen fans have seen McIntyre collide with Roman Reigns and while there has been a lack of chemistry there has been potential for there to be some great content. Storyline wise, things have fallen flat but it’s the booking here that has been detrimental in the main roster journey for the Scottish psychopath. From losing to Reigns at Wrestlemania to his recent bout against the former champion at the Stomping Grounds PPV. A win during either one of these major matches would have been a big deal for McIntyre giving him the momentum and bragging rights he needs and moving forward giving him more depth, story and possibly even a path to the Universal Championship.

No Title Opportunity

In all honesty, I am massively surprised to see that the WWE keep McIntyre away from the championship picture this whole time. While he has always had all the potential, momentum and bragging rights to enter the main event championship scene the company have kept him away and not given him a true opportunity. This has been a vital mistake and its clear he should have had a shot at the Universal Championship and a run with the title long before now. Delaying the reign has taken a lot away from McIntyre and has put him in a position wherein which he has missed on some major opportunities that could have made him into a huge star.

Pointless Alliances

From the moment he arrived on the main roster, McIntyre has found himself forming alliances with multiple superstars. From Dolph Ziggler to Bobby Lashley, from Baron Corbin to Shane McMahon, McIntyre has had another superstar by his side and while at times it has worked out perfectly fine especially what we saw between him and Ziggler however, these alliances are becoming completely pointless and are in fact taking a lot away from his character and slowing him down. What we should be seeing is a major heel role from Drew that sees him turning on everyone from babyfaces to other heels and the constant alliances with these names that eventually see him fail to walk away with the win in whatever rivalry has taken a lot of momentum away from him and negatively affected his character development.

Stipulation Victories

While he hasn’t received a true shot at the Universal Championship and been involved in a major storyline for the title the WWE have had plenty of opportunities to ensure he gets there. From the Royal Rumble to Money in the Bank, there have been several clear openings from McIntyre to find himself picking up a huge win and edging closer to a title run. He was a personal favourite of mine to win the twenty nineteen Royal Rumble match and another favourite for Mr Money in the Bank. A win in either one of these matches alone would have given him more depth and allowed him to add more to his character as well as of course the big title match that would have been inevitable. These types of victories are huge and they could have easily established him as a big-time top star.

Not Moving Him to Smackdown LIVE

As it currently stands the brand split is basically non-existent. The idea of the wild card rule has created one big mess and superstars are appearing on pretty much any show whenever, however, if the WWE had kept to their original brand split rules then they could have very easily made McIntyre their biggest heel and top star on the main roster. Establishing him as the face of the blue brand would have opened so many doors of opportunity. The biggest star on Smackdown LIVE McIntyre could have been apart of some huge matches and storylines but could have also gone on to become WWE Champion before SummerSlam even rolled around. It's clear over on the Blue brand he wouldn’t have gotten lost in the shuffle of a huge roster or overshadowed and would have received the push he has always truly deserved.

There is no taking away the sheer talent that Drew McIntyre poses and I do believe there are still many ways the WWE can turn things around and book McIntyre as their biggest star on the roster today however, it will take smart booking and plenty of twists and turns! Of course, I would love to know what you guys think so feel free to leave a comment below telling me what you think will be of McIntyre's WWE future and some of the mistakes you believe the WWE has already made with him.
