Why Slammiversary 2019 Was a Must See
This past Sunday IMPACT wrestling presented the two thousand
and nineteen edition of Slammiversary, one of the company’s biggest events of
the year and boy did they impress! The stacked card featured an array of
championship bouts, exciting competition, and must-see encounters and as a
result, the show has gone down as one of my personal favourites of the year so
far, however, just what made Slammiversary such a success? In today’s blog post
we are going to be discussing why this PPV was a must see and why I recommend
all wrestling fans to go back and watch!
This years Slammiversary PPV really did cater to everyone.
From the hardcore encounters, we witnessed to the brilliant tag team title
bout, to the intergender main event. We witnessed an excellent matchup between
two extremely athletic heavyweights for the IMPACT Wrestling heavyweight
championship and a breathtakingly awesome match-up between Johnny Impact and
Rich Swann. We’ve already mentioned the
variety of stipulations we saw throughout the night but the level of quality we
saw throughout each contest is something to be noted as well as the great
storytelling and consistency. We had new faces, legends and each match captured
the attention of different areas of the audience.

An Exciting Opening
With any wrestling event, the opening matchup is an
important one. It sets the tone for the rest of the night and creates an
opinion amongst fans early and when it comes to this years Slammiversary PPV audiences
were left very impressed! An exciting fatal four way saw Jake Crist, Willie
Mack, TJP and Trey Miguel compete to pick up some much-needed momentum and
while it was Mack who walked away with the victory the thrilling encounter saw
every single one of these men make an impact. This was an exciting and fun
match to kick start the night and left everyone pumped for the rest of show.
Epic spots and fantastic moments throughout this was a flawless match with a
satisfying end result.
Brilliant Tag Team Competition
I’ve said it before and I will say it again, the Impact
wrestling tag team division is very strong. While there aren’t as many teams as
we see over in the WWE, for example, the company do an excellent job in booking
the division as a whole and this past Sunday fans bared witness to a
fantastic tag team title match. With the North defending their championships in
a triple threat against the Rascalz and LaX this was sure to be an exciting
match none the less and no one was left disappointed. This was easily one of
the best tag team matches I personally have seen all year round with each team bringing
something different to the table and so many close calls keeping you on the
edge of your seats. We saw an array of thrilling and unique spots and every
team had a brilliant showing. The North retaining the titles didn’t come as a
surprise but after their phenomenal showing this Sunday their win is sure
deserved. Tag team wrestling can often be failed within the industry today, but
this match proved just how amazing it can be when done right.
Varying Stipulations
What I loved about Slammiversary was just how much variety
we got. Whether it be women’s division action, tag team action, fatal four
ways, intergender matches or a first blood match, the night was full of varying
encounters with varying stipulations and this is something we don’t see happen
enough throughout the wrestling world especially when we compare last nights
event to WWE PPV’s. The first blood match up between Killer Kross and Eddie
Edwards stood out massively when it comes to this topic and the encounter in
itself made for a solid entertaining match up adding a different element to the
show entirely. This kind of variation is so important and we saw exactly why it
is in this match and throughout this event.
Monsters Ball
When it comes to the Knockouts division I have had nothing
but positive things to say for months on end and after what we saw this past
Sunday at Slammiversary I have to say once and for all that the Impact Zone is
one of if not the best place for women’s wrestling today. The monsters ball
fatal four way between Taya, Su Yung, Havock, and Rosemary sent out a huge
message to the wrestling world and highlighted a new chapter in the story of
the women’s evolution. The hardcore nature of this encounter was something we
so rarely ever see from female talent across the wrestling scene even today
and what this match demonstrated was how far ahead Impact wrestling is when it
comes to the women’s evolution. There were some truly barbaric and unique spots
throughout this match that left everyone entertained! It was also difficult to
predict who would walk away the victor and considering the brilliant stories
being told here fans were left with every reason to stay tuned and glued to
their screens.
Something for Everyone
Intergender Wrestling WORKS
And we conclude today’s blog post with the main event and
quite easily the match I have anticipated more than any other this year so far,
Tessa Blanchard vs Sami Callihan. As two of my personal favourites, I have been
waiting weeks for this encounter and excited Is most certainly an understatement
for how I felt as this match took place. For months now, IMPACT Wrestling has
been showcasing intergender wrestling and seeing this historic match main event
Slammiversary was a true special moment. Personal, brutal, intense, this match
ticked all the boxes as these two stars proved a major point that not only are
they two of the best in the world today but that intergender wrestling most certainly
has a place and works! A true standout of the year so far, this match from the
get-go had everyone gripped and closed the night with a message to the entire
wrestling community.
Personally, I can honestly say I bloody loved this PPV.
There was such a brilliant feeling throughout the night that focused on a new
stage of the women’s evolution. The show overall felt current and ahead of its
time and most certainly raised the bar. Every match lived up to the hype and IMPACT wrestling showed the world why they
deserve to be named one of the best in the industry today and this stacked card
highlighted how strong the roster is today.
