Top 10 WWE Matches Of The Year so Far: Part 1

We have passed the middle point of the year and the WWE has provided fans with several standout matches in the running to become match of the year. In today’s blog post we are going to be looking at the first six months of twenty nineteen and listing the top ten matches of the year so far. Unlike most years, this time around I have focused on the main roster only including a few NXT matches but an NXT version of this list will be uploaded at a later date.

Women’s Tag Team Elimination Chamber

The women’s tag team elimination chamber match is a contest I haven’t actually seen many people talk about when it comes to looking at some of the best matches of the year so far, however, it most certainly makes my top ten list! With the bout set to determine the first ever Women’s tag team champions we saw an interesting and very entertaining match-up take place. Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose, The Boss N Hug Connection, the Riott Squad, Nia Jax and Tamina, The IIConics and Carmella and Naomi took part in a brilliant Elimination Chamber match all looking to make history and what made this so great was how they all brought something different to the table. Each team was bringing something totally different to this match and every single team had their moment to shine. The end result was slightly predictable yes, however, the eliminations, the wrestling, the moments and spots and the roles each team played means this was such a great match and I can honestly, I really enjoyed what we saw here!

Kofi Kingston’s Gauntlet Match

In part two of this blog post we will be talking about the Kofi Kingston story and his journey to Wrestlemania but before we actually touch on Mania we have to dive into one of the most vital matches in his journey, the Gauntlet match that took place on Smackdown LIVE that saw Kingston forced to challenge an array of superstars in order to receive a title opportunity at the grandest stage of them all. The match really did showcase the heart and determination from Kingston. We had some brilliant combinations of matches and fantastic wrestling here and the end result quite literally left me with a tear in my eyes.

The Miz vs Shane McMahon (Wrestlemania)

While I may not be the world’s biggest Shane McMahon fan there is no taking away just how great he has been in the ring this year and the number of solid matches he has been a part of. His rivalry with the Miz saw a brilliant story being told that had fans genuinely interested, however, their clash at Wrestlemania provided the WWE Universe with an exciting bout that went down as a genuine highlight of the night and of the year. These two pushed the boundaries and went beyond what we could have expected from them. We witnessed a different side to the Miz while McMahon put on one of his best performances of his entire in-ring career. This wasn’t a bout that highlighted excellent wrestling but had some excellent spots and moments, a brilliant story and great chemistry between two stars.

Mustafa vs Kevin Owens vs Daniel Bryan

Mustafa, Kevin Owens and Daniel Bryan were always sure to provide an awesome match up. Their unique and diverse move sets meant this was bound to be an epic match and they did not disappoint. There was a slight lack of chemistry here but in terms of the wrestling, this was right up there with some of the best performances we have seen so far. This was yet another night Mustafa really proved himself and showed how far the Cruiserweight stars can go when pushed correctly. This may be a match that at times has been slightly forgotten but go back and re-watch this and you are sure to know exactly why this should be considered one of the best of the year so far.

Pete Dunne Vs Walter

When we look over at NXT UK, we really do see that WALTER and Pete Dunne are sitting right at the top of the roster and when they collided  at NXT Takeover New York they provided fans with a match that cannot be denied the position of one of the best matches we have seen so far this year. Now, what surprised me was the length of this match. Personally, I was expecting to see this match kept quite short and dominated by WALTER but what we got was an intense match between two very even superstars and while we all knew a title change was bound to take place there was plenty here keeping you believing there may just be a surprise ending. This was a brilliant way to conclude Dunne’s historic reign and the match itself was undeniable fantastic.

And that concludes part one of this blog psot! Next week I will be uploading part two where you can find out what takes the top spot! Until then you can let me know what your WWE match of the year so far is by leaving a comment below or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.
