Top 10 WWE Matches Of The Year so Far: Part 2

We have passed the middle point of the year and the WWE has provided fans with several standout matches in the running to become match of the year. In today’s blog post we are going to be looking at the first six months of twenty nineteen and listing the top ten matches of the year so far. Unlike most years, this time around I have focused on the main roster only including a few NXT matches but an NXT version of this list will be uploaded at a later date.

Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match

If you know me you know that the MITB PPV is one of my all-time favourite PPVs and is one I most anticipate every single year. The twenty nineteen edition of this match saw some of the best stars in the WWE today look to become Mr MITB creating one of the most stacked versions of this match we have seen so far. Andrade, Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, Finn Balor, Sami Zayn, Ricochet Mustafa and Randy Orton all raised the bar and while I strongly disliked the end result, Lesnar’s surprise win here really did shift things and add to the shock and entertainment factor here. We had some truly epic and exciting spots throughout this match and this is sure to go down as not only a highlight of the year but one of the best MITB matches we have ever seen.

Ronda Rousey vs Sasha Banks

Throughout her WWE career so far, Ronda Rousey has been apart of several solid matchups against an array of different superstars from the likes of Charlotte Flair, Nia Jax and Alexa Bliss, however, arguably her best match to date comes from this year's Royal Rumble PPV when she defended her RAW Women’s championship against Sasha Banks. This was by far Rousey’s toughest challenge to date with the Boss testing just how good the baddest woman on the planet is when it comes to wrestling. As one of the best all-around pro wrestlers in the WWE today, Banks gave Rousey her best match to date testing her in ways she hasn’t been tested before. They both targeted each other’s arm, we saw a new side of Rousey determined to prove she can wrestle, and while Banks didn’t walk away with the win she highlighted how strong she is in the ring and her ability to get such a strong match out of Rousey. Her experience was on show here and as a result, we got one of the best women’s matches of the year.

Seth Rollins vs AJ Styles (MITB)

AJ Styles vs Seth Rollins has been a total dream match for years! Fans have been waiting for the pair to collide one on one for a very long time and so when the dream became a reality at the Money in the Bank PPV this year the WWE Universe were very much excited! As two of the best wrestlers not only in the WWE but in the world today this was a match sure to always be considered a match of the year candidate and they did not disappoint. Their unique and stacked move sets were on show from the get-go and they proved exactly why they are at the top of their game here. We got a dose of everything and both men had such a phenomenal showing. The story was a little flat but the wrestling here was so strong you just cannot take away the fact this was a brilliant match between two extremely talented superstars.

Half-Time Heat

One of the best standout matches of the year so far has without a shadow of a doubt been the six-man tag team match taking place in a special called Half-time hear. With Velveteen Dream, Ricochet, and Aleister Black on one side and Adam Cole, Tommaso Ciampa, and Johnny Gargano on the other side this was a showing of not only the best in NXT but some of the best stars in the world today. Fans expected the best from this match and that is exactly what we got. From the get-go, the action was strong, fast-paced and exciting! The thrilling spots and special little moments meant this was a match sure to go down as one of the best of the year from the moment it aired. This was the most fun bouts of the year and every single superstar involved looked brilliant!

Kofi Kingston vs Daniel Bryan

And taking the top spot for me is one I’m sure will not come as any surprise but it’s the WWE Championship match between Kofi Kingston and Daniel Bryan. The build alone to this contest told the best story of the year and made this match and the closing moments even more special! Here we saw the eleven-year journey Kofi Kingston had been on come to the biggest height so far. Fans had seen him struggle and fight for years and the build left the entire WWE Universe behind him. Colliding with Bryan at Wrestlemania left everyone on the edge of their seats completely glued to the action. We truly did see just how brilliant of a pro wrestler Kingston was but also how much this match meant to him. There were so much passion and heart in this contest and the wrestling was simply brilliant! I can’t think of another match better of topping the list.

And that concludes my top ten WWE Matches of the year so far from January to June! Part one of this blog post will be linked below and you can have your say and tell me what your favourite WWE match of the year has been so far by leaving a comment below or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.
