How I would book: Roman Reigns VS John Cena

Hello everyone! Welcome back to Talk Wrestling World, I hope you are all well and good and are of course having a great start July! Okay, so the Summer here on my blog is usually a time where I take a look back through the past six months and pick out the highlight moments of the year so far. However, this time round things have been a little different. Due to current events in my personal life there has been a huge delay on my top ten matches and superstars of the year so far but I promise they are both in the making and with part one already uploaded listing the most impressive superstars of the year so far I'd like to think slowly I'm getting back on track. Now, being a little contradictory I have a brand new post for you today that has nothing to do with counting down standout moments and wrestlers of twenty seventeen so far but instead a future match currently a favourite amongst fans as next years Wrestlemania main event in  New Orleans. There is no denying that Roman Reigns and John Cena are two of the most controversial superstars of this generation if not, in WWE history. Dividing fans all around the world there haven't been many superstars to get people talking half as much as these two men and when you take a look at where they both currently stand in their careers it's only a matter of time before the collide on a huge stage. In today's blog post I'm going to be giving you an in depth creative post where I will be telling you all how I would book Roman Reigns VS John Cena. This post was inspired by this weeks episode of Monday night RAW and Sunday's Great Balls of Fire pay per view. With both men making an impact and forever remaining a strong talking point I thought now would be a good time and with so many rumors surfacing in regards to next years Wrestlemania pay per view it just made sense. I am planning on writing more posts in the coming weeks surrounding Wrestlemania and Summer Slam so make sure to keep an eye out for those in the coming weeks. As always, any recent blog post will be linked bellow including my Great Balls of Fire review. And finally, you can let me know how you would book this match and  if you would even like to see it take place by leaving a comment bellow or  by dropping me a tweet over at @TezangiVictoria.

As we briefly touched on moments ago in the intro, no two superstars have divided fan opinion quite as much as Roman Reigns and sixteen time world champion, John Cena. Both carrying a huge fan base (particular popular amongst younger fans) both men have an even bigger army of doubters or in this case haters who have critiqued their work for years. Of course there are difference; while Cena started out strong with a good following and the typical response for a WWE superstar working as either a baby face and a heel the opinion fans had on him changed throughout the years according to character development, storyline's and booking. However, on the other hand Roman Reigns has found himself on the receiving end of some pretty harsh comments thanks to the WWE pushing him far too soon. Hardcore fans were able to spot errors in Reigns' work very early and while the WWE avoided all the problems they had staring them in the faces the WWE Universe were soon to point out where the company were going wrong and as always voiced their opinions. From his first Royal Rumble win, to his main event Wrestlemania matches, to defeating the Undertaker at the grandest stage of them all, fans of the product including myself have made it perfectly clear they do not appreciate or approve of the booking made by the WWE in regards to the self proclaimed "big dog". Of course the fan opinion has never stopped Vince and the creative team who continue to push Reigns to the top the only difference now however is Roman has managed to show great character development, finding a role that suits him perfectly making it more difficult for WWE followers to find fault and his in ring work has massively improved and matches against the likes of AJ Styles, Seth Rollins and Finn Balor to name a few have Shown Reigns to be worthy of a main event role.

Cena on the other hand has had a difficult few years. While he remains one of the most respected, talented, influential, and most spoken about men in the industry he's fallen behind thanks to more time away from the ring. Of course he has managed to put on some brilliant matches and gone on to make history earlier in the year. After defeating AJ Styles in what was one of the best matches of the year so far Cena tied the beyond impressive record held by Ric Flair becoming a sixteen time world champion and while we haven't seen much of him since he's John freaking Cena and is always a big talking point.

So as SummerSlam approaches we also find ourselves thinking about Wrestlemania and while it's quite some time until the event roles around there are already so many big rumors surfacing in regards to potential matches and the main event of the biggest wrestling event. In today's blog post we are going to be taking a look at both these huge shows and these two big names as I tell you how I would book Roman Reigns VS John Cena and how both SummerSlam twenty seventeen and next year's Mania come into play. Lets kick start things off by explaining why the two should feud in the first place. Well, it's invetible. For years the WWE have been doing everything in their power to mold Roman Reigns into the new John Cena and while efforts have failed he remains a huge part of the future of the company and as he continues to show all round improvements. Reigns is earning that top spot more and more as the days go by. However, he does still have a lot to prove and a feud with his biggest top spot competition John Cena is one we have all been waiting to see happen for years. Weather we want it to or not it's bound to happen eventually and personally I really cannot wait for it.I may not be the biggest fan of both these men but their rivalry and future matches are something I am beyond excited for and honestly would pay to see. With Cena now announcing himself as a free agent it's opened the doors for these two to kick start a story and even though it did appear at first as though the pair would collide at SummerSlam this year it looks as though we may have to wait a little longer before these two collide on a big stage. The chances of them feuding at some point soon are higher than ever and the seeds have already been planted, but how do we get there? Lets take a look...

Next Week on RAW

So our story starts with next weeks episode of Monday night RAW. As we learnt just a few days ago general manager Kurt Anger announced that Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns will go one on one for the chance to face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam for the Universal Championship. A match bound to be amazing given that the two superstars are provided with enough time to really showcase their skills and strengths in the ring, this is a match I will not be missing out on! However, there is one man missing from this little picture, Braun Strowman. While he did pick up the victory against Roman Reigns in their ambulance match this past Sunday against Roman Reigns he left the pay per view as the weaker man following a further attack from Roman Reigns that required Strowman to be assisted out of the back of the ambulance. Missing this weeks episode of RAW everyone has been wondering what state  Strowman is in, when he will appear on TV again and what will await him when he does show up. My booking story would see Braun make an appearance during next weeks main event. Now, a previous rumor saw Strowman as the man set to face Lesnar at SummerSlam one on one but it's clear plans have changed. Personally, I still want to see Strowman in the title picture and he will play a huge role in this story. So, picture it, next week we have Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe battling out in the main event desperate to earn a title opportunity. The two compete in a lengthy main event that very quickly proves to be a potential match of the year candidate. Both men have several close calls, the crowd are completely invested, and the action is crazy strong. During those final moments it looks as though Reigns is closing in on a victory Strowman's music hits and as he appears from the back his faces says a thousand words. Strowman is more angry than he's ever been attacking both Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe Strowman sends a message, looking straight down the camera he yells "it's my title" and as the show comes to an end it's clear that Kurt Angle is nowhere near creating a number one contender for Brock Lesnar. The week after Heyman demands answers and as the pressure builds for Angle to prove his skills as a GM and  after looking as though he is losing control we can either have him announce the news regarding SummerSlam or see the return of Stephanie McMahon who comes out to put things back in order. With clear tension between the commissioner and the General manager the focus in that moment remains the WWE Universal Championship. Its the revealed that at SummerSlam Brock Lesnar will face Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe, and Braun Strowman with his title of course, on the line.

Summer Slam

As I've mentioned a million times before, the Summer Slam pay per view is one of my all time favourites and this year we look to be getting a pretty solid card. Now, in my little fantasy booking world the Summer Slam main event would see a fatal four way match for the WWE Universal Championship consisting of Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman, and current champ, Brock Lesnar. The match in itself is a huge attraction. It's been a while since the title has been defended in a triple threat or fatal four way and like this involved it's bound to draw in fans of all ages, around the world both casual and hardcore. The fact this is also such an unpredictable line up makes things even more interesting. There would be so many different fans supporting different superstars and it's that kind of feeling that has been missing in the main event picture. The action itself is bound to be phenomenal and when you have names like this in a main event of one of the biggest wrestling shows of the year we a have potential match of the year candidate on our hands. The end result regardless is sure to be controversial. With so many different opinions and each superstar having a valid reason as to why they should walk out as champion this will most certainly get people talking. In my story the winner of this match would be Braun Strowman. Who pins to get the win is very open. Personally, I would avoid him actually defeating Lesnar just so it keeps Brock with the momentum on his side. Roman is the safe bet and makes the most sense but if this match was to take place than I can see the WWE having Joe take the loss for obvious reasons.  You guys all know that I am a huge Braun Strowman fan and I would love to see him capture the title, doing so in a fatal four way at Summer Slam is huge and works perfectly. Reigns is still given time to go off and work another feud earning his way to another title shot at some point. In the mean time feuds against the likes of Samoa Joe, Finn Balor and more could take place to keep him busy while Strowman as a lengthy title reign expanding to the Royal Rumble which we will go into more detail with in a little while.

Over on Smackdown LIVE there is plenty to keep John Cena busy until he comes to blows with Roman Reigns. His current feud against Rusev should see RuRu come out on top. Cena is Cena, losing here won't effect him what so ever and as long as the feud is kept short and simple and he is able to transition into a new story then all is good. Personally, looking at SummerSlam I wouldn't want to see Cena VS Rusev. While they have great history and of course more than capable of delivering a brilliant match I actually would much rather prefer to see Cena VS Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship where the title changes hands. Okay, so its risky and while it wouldn't be the most creative of storyline's and wouldn't be the best received from hardcore fans I think it works. No one is expecting Jinder to have a super lengthy title reign and thats okay as long as he can make an impact and so far he is doing just that. Both men are going to need something strong heading into SummerSlam and I do believe they are the perfect opponents for one another. Unfortunately, there isn't much time to build a big story around them and the feud if it does happen is likely to continue on way past this pay per view which again is okay. It would be huge if Jinder could defeate Cena at a huge event like Summer Slam and I do believe there is a chance that could still happen but again it's unlikely. It's only a matter of time before Cena makes history again and while he could do it Mania this year I would love to see him knock off Jinder for the title soon. This is mainly so we can open doors for other stories involving Baron Corbin. As Mr Money in the bank and the lone wolf character a cash in on either Cena or Jinder would work and I would love to see something develop between these three. Keeping both Jinder and Corbin in mind these would be the two superstars insuring Cena is kept busy up until the Royal Rumble pay per view.

Royal Rumble

The Royal Rumble pay per view is where things really will kick start. With Roman once again finding himself in the title picture his feud with Braun Strowman is brought back to life as the pair set to face off one last time in an Iron Man match. An impressive performance yet again from both superstars this time round it is Roman who walks out the victor and the brand new WWE Universal Champion Over in the main event, the Royal Rumble match, there are huge names entered, the likes of AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Bobby Roode, Aliester Black and of course John Cena are involved and so on our hands we have one of the most unpredictable Royal Rumble matches in history. Okay, so with that in mind it's pretty clear that if Cena was to win a Rumble like this there would be plenty of very very angry fans but in all honesty for this story its what works. Of course Cena could still lose. Turn up on RAW the following night and kick start something Reigns there. This would work if say, AJ Styles was the WWE champion and Nakamura won the Royal Rumble, then it all works and comes together perfectly. However, when I was originally writing this story and taking my notes I did have Cena as the two thousand and seventeen Royal Rumble winner and for now I'm going to stick to that. With Cena winning and being a free agent we all wonder, who will Cena challenge at Wrestlemania in New Orleans? This is a question that remains on everyone's lips and after a few teases for a couple of weeks Cena interrupts a promo delivered by Roman Reigns and announced that at Wrestlemania the crowd will have to chose their favourite evil as it's official, Cena wants the title he is yet to win and so Roman Reigns VS John Cena will main event Wrestlemania.

Wrestlemania

As Wrestlemania rolls around we are treated to a killer build up that has the biggest of critiques desperate to see this match and by the time the pay per view hits everyone is excited for Roman Reigns VS John Cena. There already have been so many rumors around the main event and one of the most recent does include this very match and after giving it thought, acknowledging im not the
biggest fan of these two superstars I have realised and admitted that in actual fact I'm all for this feud and I would love to see them collide and honestly there is not better fitted stage than the biggest of the year, Wrestlemania. As far as who wins, I hate to say it but I'd have to go with Reigns. Now, if you wanted to keep history going and looking at the roster during that time than Cena may be the better choice for the winner here but personally I do feel as though I would want Reigns to have a longer title run and  I also really like the passing of the torch vibe. I know there will be plenty of doubters and many fans who just wouldn't wanna see this match happen at all but I honestly do believe this would be a brilliant match. Reigns has improved so much over the past couple of years. We know he can deliver a match of the year style bout and there really is no match that will draw in hardcore and casual fans quite as much as this. It's bound to happen eventually and I really do feel as though it would be a huge success.

I am planning on writing a couple of different versions of this post in the coming weeks but as I have said this week I am so so busy right now with all the craziness going on in my personal life at the moment but I promises these rushed posts won't be sticking around for long! As always, any recent blog post will be linked bellow including my Great Balls of Fire review. And finally, you can let me know how you would book this match and  if you would even like to see it take place by leaving a comment bellow or  by dropping me a tweet over at @TezangiVictoria.
