WWE Female Superstar of the Year 2018

Two thousand and eighteen has been a huge year for women in the WWE, arguably the greatest year for women in the world of pro wrestling with most first evers including a Royal Rumble Match, Elimination Chamber, and Last Woman Standing match all making history as well as the first ever All women’s PPV taking place. Throughout the past twelve months there has been a handful of female superstars standing out and getting fans talking and in today’s blog post we are going to be counting down the top five of the year so grab a drink and let’s dive into it.

Alexa Bliss

We kick start this year’s countdown of the best WWE female competitors by looking at former champion, Alexa Bliss. Throughout two thousand and eighteen Bliss has been at the top of the women’s division competing in some of the most memorable, standout, and entertaining storyline’s and matches to come from the division. Opponents including Nia Jax, Ronda Rousey, Sasha Banks and more have reminded fans of how far Little Miss Bliss has come as an in-ring performer as well as a character. She competed in a singles bout at Wrestlemania defending the RAW women’s champion, won the second ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, has had more title reigns, and had a standout performance in the first-ever women’s Elimination Chamber match. While Bliss is currently making headlines for rumours regarding injuries and her health worrying fans about her future within the world of in-ring action there is no denying Alexa has been a standout throughout the year and one of the best stars amongst the women’s division.

Toni Storm

Up next is the only woman not apart of the main roster featuring in this blog post, Toni Storm. While we haven’t seen as much of her compared to other women on the list today, Storm has become one of the biggest talking points and most exciting prospects within her division. Making history earlier on in the year by competing for the NXT Women’s champion against Shayna Baszler at the Royal Albert hall Storm has gone on to be apart of more memorable matches some going down as some of the best of the entire year. Her performance in the Mae Young Classic was one of the best-told stories of twenty eighteen and contests against names such as Io Shari, Mieko Satomura, and Jinny have highlighted Storm as one of the most promising stars on the roster today. Toni has also gone on to make a major impact for the NXT UK women’s division, coming close to winning gold there against Rhea Ripley but with an array of standout matches and becoming the winner of the Mae Young Classic two thousand and eighteen there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Toni Storm has been one of the best female talents of the year.

Ronda Rousey

It was all the way back in January that WWE fans were left stunned at the surprise appearance of Ronda Rousey at the Royal Rumble pay per view. Following the first ever all women's Rumble match (which main evented the show), Rousey surprised the world by making her official arrival with the company setting her sights on Wrestlemania and three women who would eventually become future opponents. Her arrival was a major deal and sparked not only one of the biggest moments in WWE Womens wrestling but one of the biggest signings and shocking moments in WWE history. The world was buzzing and in the months to come fans would sit back and watch as Rousey dominated the world of professional wrestling. Her in-ring debut took place at Wrestlemania where she not only tapped out Stephanie McMahon but came face to face with Triple H and proved she had grasped the wrestling world perfectly and very quickly! In the months that followed Ronda went on to become the RAW women's champion and competed in memorable and impressive bouts against the likes of Nia Jax, Natalya, Nikki Bella, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair. She main evented the first ever All women's PPV and has ended the year on a huge high with plenty of options and directions set up for twenty ninteen.

Charlotte Flair

It’s been an interesting year for Charlotte Flair, however, none the less she has continued to prove she is, in fact, one of the best female superstars in the history of the WWE and pro wrestling. Starting out the year fresh on Smackdown LIVE, Flair stood as the women’s champion for the blue brand ready for fresh competition, that competition soon came in the form of the empress of tomorrow, Asuka. After winning the first ever women’s Royal Rumble Asuka went on to compete for gold at Wrestlemania where she and Flair would compete in one of the standout matches of the night. Taking home the victory Flair became the first woman to defeat Asuka and continued her reign of dominance. After dropping the title to Carmella Charlotte remained a focal point on the Smackdown LIVE women’s division and it wasn’t all too long till Flair found herself back in the championship picture and gold firmly around her waist. The rest of the year saw Charlotte work as part of one of the best storylines of twenty eighteen against Becky Lynch which provided many with what was the main roster match of the year, a last woman Standing contest at Evolution. She may not be the total fan favourite but Flair is at the top of her game and after yet another successful year in which she shone brighter than any there really is no slowing down one of the biggest talents in the history of the WWE Women’s division.

Becky Lynch

And finally, my WWE Female Superstar of the year is… Becky Lynch. If you had told me at the start of the year I would be typing that sentence come December I would not have believed you. I will admit that I haven’t always been the biggest Becky Lynch fan or at least never been as high on her as much as the rest of the world, however, twenty eighteen seen has seen that turn around massively and I can honestly sit here and say that she is my favourite female WWE superstar right now. After turning heel back in the Summer following a triple threat match at SummerSlam there truly has been no stopping Lynch who has gone from strength to strength becoming the most over and must-see star in the WWE today, putting gender aside completely.

Her storyline involving Charlotte Flair was a highlight of the year and their last woman standing bout at Evolution not only stole the show but went down as one of the best matches of twenty eighteen. It was also on that night Lynch truly established herself to be not only worthy of being champ but worthy of being considered one of the best of the best. She has delivered excellent promo after excellent promo and been grown to become one of the biggest and most over stars in the WWE today. There is nothing topping Lynch’s popularity, she has been apart of some of the most anticipated matches in women’s wrestling history and twenty nineteen promises even more and even bigger moments from the man.

And there we have it! That is my list of the top five WWE Female superstars of the year! As always I would love to know what you think and who you believe has been the female WWE Superstar of twenty eighteen so feel free to leave a comment below or tweet me over at @TezangiVictoria
