Five Top Superstars Who Had a Terrible 2018

Two thousand and eighteen was full of amazing moments, debuts, returns, and generally brilliant milestone highlights for the careers of many WWE Superstars. The likes of Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch, Tommaso Ciampa, and Seth Rollins were amongst those to have an extremely strong twenty eighteen, however, the past twelve months haven’t been so strong for several other current WWE supers (to the surprise of many), and so today we are going to be taking an in-depth look at some of those names. Listing five superstars who didn’t have a good year we are going to exploring why and what we can expect from these superstars in the coming new year.

Bayley

I’ve admitted before that I haven’t always been the biggest Bayley fan however, there was a time I did genuinely enjoy her work, as did many other WWE fans, yet her run on the main roster has put Bayley in a position no one expected the former champion to be in. While twenty seventeen saw her hold the RAW Women’s championship her forgettable reign did her no good and over the last twelve months, Bayley hasn’t been able to bounce back and find solid ground. There are no in-ring performances, storyline’s, or segments that standout involving Bayley this year and the way her work with Sasha Banks was conducted has reduced her credibility on Monday nights. Fans have shown a clear decrease in interest when it comes to the leader of the hug life and with the arrival of Ronda Rousey Bayley has fallen down the ladder even more. Heading into twenty nineteen its vital Bayley is given historic moments including a run as WWE Women’s tag team champions, the company establishes her as one of the major babyfaces on the roster, she is given plenty more ring time and most importantly the WWE press play on her feud with Sasha Banks.

Sami Zayn

Twenty eighteen was a real devastating year for Sami Zayn. Kick-starting with plenty of belief that things were going to turn around after a tough start on the main roster, Zayn proved that the role of a heel was the best option for him and a career-changing decision. Solid matches, strong storyline’s, and memorable in-ring competition, things were looking up but with an injury forcing him to take time away from the ring, Zayn heads right back to the starting point. We can expect to see the former NXT champion back in action this year but just how well can he bounce back? What will the year ahead hold for Zayn? And is a push or a step down the roster awaiting an extremely talented superstar?

Bray Wyatt

Okay, now this one does make me damn frustrated… Bray Wyatt is by far one of the most charismatic, entertaining, skilled in-ring performers in the WWE today. Completely unique and capable of bringing something totally new to the WWE yet remind fans of a special era in this industry it’s frustrating that he is forever misused. In twenty eighteen its difficult to truly remember a handful of things he took part in that truly grabbed your attention. The rivalry between him and Hardy was one of the most exciting moments for him this year with that work really having some great moments but ultimately the feud was underdone and cut far too short. Handled wrong this was a dream feud the WWE simply got wrong and unfortunately both stars suffered massively.  Looking ahead, because of just how damn talented Wyatt is and the diverse characters now on the roster (both on RAW and Smackdown LIVE) I firmly believe he could bounce back perfectly well if the WWE actually dedicate plenty of time and attention to a man who could lead a whole new generation within the company.

Bobby Roode

We’ve had the one that didn’t bother me, the one that annoyed me, and now the one that surprised me, the year of Bobby Roode. Moving over to Monday night RAW plenty of new opportunities awaited the former NXT champion and with popularity, experience, and charisma all on his side many easily predicted a strong run with the WWE to take place for the former Impact star yet we could not have been more wrong. From forgettable matches and feuds to a terrible alliance with Chad Gable Roode has gone down as one of the biggest wasted talented of the year. A superstar who so easily could be placed in the main event picture shoved to the very bottom of the pecking order has me disappointed, frustrated, and shocked. Turning things around for Roode may not be as easy as others on today’s list considering the position he should have is so heavily filled, however, a heel turn, and the right storyline should put him back on track and more exposer in bigger matches is much needed!

Sasha Banks

And finally, we, of course, must include Sasha Banks. It has been again, a surprisingly terrible year for the Boss. With no proper heel turn taking place, not a fraction of the ring time we are used to seeing her given, and cringe-worthy work with Bayley, Banks has easily had her worse year since being apart of the WWE. The arrival of Ronda Rousey and the impact Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair have been having over on Smackdown LIVE has meant the Boss has almost faded into the background. Easily capable of experiencing the level of stardom Lynch is currently receiving it’s a shame and a true waste that the WWE have barely used her the past twelve months. Now, Banks has, of course, had her strong moments include a match against Asuka and performances at PPV’s such as the Elimination Chamber but considering where she was two years ago the Boss is further from her name than ever before. Again, turning things around is not mission impossible, turning her heel is the best and at this point only option the WWE have and if they really give her the time and the effort, she could so easily have the effect the likes of Lynch, Flair, and Rousey are all currently having if not, greater!

And those are just five names I believe had a terrible twenty eighteen! Of course, there were others on my list so if you would like a part two do let me know! For now, you can have your say by leaving a comment below or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.
