Recently Released WWE Superstars Who Would Shine in AEW

Last week the WWE made several official announcements declaring a number of their talents had been released. The list included the likes of producer and former in-ring star Finlay, former tag team champions Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, fan favourites EC3 and Drake Maverick, NXT stars Deonna Purrazzo and Lio Rush and former United States champion Rusev. Several of these announcements left fans stunned and a week later the WWE Universe are still discussing what awaits these recently released superstars. Despite the awful times we are living in and the sad news of these WWE departures fresh new company AEW works as a beam of light and a serious opportunity for many of the stars above and in today’s blog post I’m going to be discussing who of the recently released WWE superstars would shine bright in AEW.

EC3

When EC3 resigned with the WWE a couple of years back I was one of many who were very excited about his return! EC3’s initial run with the company didn’t allow him to showcase his true skills and the depths of his talents and time away from the WWE highlighted him to be a major talent capable of becoming the next big thing within World Wrestling Entertainment. However, despite the buzz around his WWE return the second time around mimicked what we saw years prior and we now have a situation that sees him released yet again and still never given his big WWE push he more than deserves. Now, despite his poor showing during his time with the WWE EC3 is a man no one should be worried about moving forward. With the look, mic skills, and character work EC3 is a main event star and we all know (well everyone but Vince McMahon) and his character would sure shine over in AEW. Collisions with the likes of Cody, MJF and Jon Moxley would make for dream matches and storylines that could elevate AEW even more while showcasing the very best of EC3. This is a fresh start (once again) for a big-time fan favourite and its AEW where we are likely to see the very best of him and see him given that major push, we have all been waiting to see him receive again.

Sarah Logan

The release that made me the most furious (following Rusev) had to be Sarah Logan. From the get-go, the WWE hasn’t used Logan to her full potential despite her experience and everything she did prior to signing with the company. From that character work to in-ring time Logan was never given the attention she deserves but this is a woman truly born to belong on the indies scene in the world of pro wrestling and a hot new brand like AEW would be very fitting for Logan to find a balance between the indies and a promotion with major draw. While I have been one of many to sing the praises of All Elite Wrestling the promotion is still struggling when it comes to its women’s division and is in serious needed of adding more female talent to its roster and so this is where everything ties together. With character adjustments, Logan would make for a great new name to join the AEW Women’s division. Her experience and wrestling skill is much needed for the division and a spotlight like this will allow Sara to finally show just how good she is in front of a major audience. Put her in stipulation and lengthy matches and Logan is sure to shine and prove to the WWE they made a huge mistake with her.

Drake Maverik

Drake Maverik really is an amazing all-round talent. Full of charisma and likability he has a great story to tell and a lot of experience. His release was yet another big disappointment yet is sure to open bigger doors of opportunities for the British star. I would love to see Maverik sign with AEW and come face to face with the likes of Marco Stunt and MJF for the character collisions and spots are sure to be something very special and entertaining. Of course, in a dream would seeing Drake and EC3 team up and stand alongside each other again is one I cannot stop thinking about especially considering the creative options for them as a duo. However, it's also AEW where I believe we will see Maverik not only shine within his character roles but also in the ring. Drake has a lot of experience and great in-ring talent we haven’t always seen a lot of and I do believe his overall style would fit in so well with All Elite Wrestling.

Deonna Purrazzo

Deonna Purrazzo truly could have been something special within the WWE. Her talent in the ring and experience prior to signing with the WWE gave her everything needed to be the next big thing in the WWE women’s division  but things just didn’t work out and despite all the potential she had to be something incredible we never saw things really get going for her. As we have touched on already today, AEW has a lot more work to do with its women’s division and a talent like Purrazzo could truly change the game and set up some must-see matches that elevates the women’s division and creates a standout contest. I would love to see the AEW women’s division grow and equally, I would love to see Deonna given the chance to work on a bigger stage and show the world why she is worthy of being a big time champion and face of her division.

The Revival

Of course, we just had to include the Revival in this list! Despite being one of the best tag teams in the world today the WWE made every mistake possible when Dash and Dawson joined the main roster. For a long time now fans have been waiting for the pair to depart with the WWE and find their way to AEW in particular where an array of dream match awaits them including that tag team encounter with the Young Bucks we have all been waiting for a very long time. With the two now departed with the WWE, it looks as though we are edging closer to that dream match but with AEW handling tag team matches and the division so well this is an incredible opportunity for the Revival and fans could be in for many phenomenal tag team match-ups involving these two and many AEW talents so watch this space.

With so many releases there were, of course, other names I could have included in this blog post including Rusev, Zack Ryder and more but the names above I really do feel in particular could make a huge impact over in AEW and have career-changing moments and turn arounds.
