Why Buddy Murphy Should Have QUALIFIED for MITB Ladder Match 2020

Over the past couple of weeks, the WWE has held several MITB qualifying matches for the men and women’s division both on RAW and Smackdown. The qualifying stars have left fans conflicted and as always there is debate amongst the WWE universe and fans have begun to pick their favorites for the win! One of the RAW qualifying matches saw Buddy Murphy and Rey Mysterio collide with the masked star eventually walking out with the victory. Of course, if you know me you will know this was a decision I wasn’t a fan of at all and in today's blog post, I’m going to be discussing why this booking decision was a mistake and why I believe Buddy Murphy should have qualified for the 2020 Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

Rey Did not Need This Win

As much as I love Rey Mysterio, he’s an all-time great and sure to deliver some great spots throughout the bout but booking him in the 2020 MITB ladder matches makes no sense at all. Prior to the qualifying match fans had not seen all too much of Rey in action, he did not have a great deal of momentum on his side and there is evidently nothing to be gained from him competing in this match. He is arguably the least likely to get the win come Money in the Bank and again, while he is sure to provide some cool spots the performance isn’t going to be anything we haven’t seen before and storyline-wise there is nothing tying Rey to this match this year. Murphy, on the other hand, could have had some excellent moments throughout MITB also as well as a career defying performance. There are storylines fitting to exactly why he should have been booked in this match and all round there was far more for him to gain and it made a great deal of sense to put him in this ladder match. Not to mention the momentum gained from qualifying match was far more needed for Buddy also.

Bringing Life Back to Recent Angles

It has been a hot minute since we last saw Seth Rollins and Buddy Murphy together and the rest of Seth Rollins diverse faction (for obvious reasons). While we may not be set to see them work closely together the WWE could have very easily continued to showcase the faction and the unity elsewhere with one of those ways being the MITB ladder match. The strong booking of Murphy taking part in MITB and Rollins chasing after the WWE Championship there was a strong and entertaining story to be told with fans left wondering whether Murphy could steal the moment for himself and set out to further his own career or do the bidding of Rollins inside MITB and work as a plan B  for the messiah. If you include AOP coming to the aid of Buddy and assisting him in the win at MITB we have a very entertaining set up the WWE have missed out on and a way in which they could have continued working the build of a growing faction without too much interaction between them.

The Perfect MITB 2020 Winner

When I take a look at current storylines and the state of each roster while there is so much talent I have felt as though Murphy was the right man for the 2020 MITB win for a while now! As we have already touched on today there is a great deal of storyline back up for Murphy to not only compete in the match but walk out with the win and Mr. Money in the Bank. It’s been a while since we saw a heel have a lengthy run with the briefcase which again would have been great to see and could have been a brilliant opportunity to bring out more of Buddy’s character adding more depth! Not to mention his “Best kept secret” element of his character also adds to how fitting of a Mr. Money in the bank he would have made. I also love seeing the MITB Briefcase used to further establish a superstar and Murphy makes for the fitting holder of the case to achieve exactly that. The timing for Murthy was perfect and we could have seen a truly epic storyline made here.

History with other Competitors

Inside this year's Money in the Bank ladder match, we will see Aleister Black and Daniel Bryan look to become Mr. Money in the bank 2020, two superstars who have a history with the former Cruiserweight champion. Bryan and Murphy has shard the ring in solid matchups over on Smackdown Live and the classic encounters between Buddy and Aleister were career defying for the Aussie star. With their history in mind, it's clear we would have seen some great collisions involving these talents for we know exactly what they can do when sharing the ring. It also would have been great to see Murphy and Black meet again and for the WWE to briefly revisit their rivalry and for Murphy to finally get the upper hand over both men!

Seth Rollins

Throughout this post today we have spoken about Seth Rollins a heck of a lot but let's be honest, there is a great deal more to be seen between these two superstars and Money in the Bank could have been a huge catalyst. With Rollins in the main event, how interesting and entertaining would it have been to see Murphy win the briefcase and leave fans wondering what his next step could be. Murphy could have made the match a triple threat, turned on Rollins or sacrificed himself so Rollins could get the win. We also could have potentially seen Murphy not cash in on the same night but instead keep hold of it, remain the dark horse, await his perfect moment and in doing so leave Rollins on edge and pretty pissed off. Regardless, the point here is there were plenty of creative angles for Murphy as the Money in the Bank winner this year especially considering his relationship with Rollins.

I do believe a huge mistake was made with the MITB PPV this year (a few in fact) and I do believe strongly that Murphy was denied a career defying angle and victory. I do hope he gets his moment in the future and I’m sure he will be an opportunity was certainly missed! I would, of course, love to know what you guys think and who you want to see win so feel free to leave a comment below or tweet me over at @TezangiVictoria.
