Superstars Who Should Challenge Drew McIntyre

Wrestlemania thirty-six was sure an historic evening and the ground-breaking moments rand through both nights of the only Mania too big for one night. Sunday’s main event concluded with yet another historic moment when Drew McIntyre become the first British WWE Champion defeating Brock Lesnar on the grandest stage of them all. The big victory left everyone in high spits with a new champion sure to bring something new to the table and Monday Nights. With such a diverse and competitive roster there sure are plenty of superstars gunning for McIntyre and his WWE Championship but just who make for must opponents and challengers for the Scottish Psychopath.

Bobby Lashley

When former ECW Champion Bobby Lashley made his return to the WWE a couple of years back, I was one of many fans super excited for his comeback. The hybrid talent brings speed and power to the table as well as years’ worth of experience and the WWE had a second chance of making a big-time main eventing talent out of the destroyer. However, things haven’t quite gone to plan and Lashley hasn’t had the best run since making his return. Now, I have always felt that Lashley should gave gone one on one with Lesnar for the WWE Championship for the story writes itself and their similarities are striking but with McIntyre now champion there is another chance for Bobby to set his sights on gold from a different angle. Both men are powerhouses who haven’t had the easiest of journeys. He may not be the star the WWE is pushing as a top talent but that is exactly what Lashley is and he makes for a legitimate threat to  McIntyre and the title and with the right time and direction, these two could create something very special both as a storyline and in the ring.

Seth Rollins

One of the most likely challengers to McIntyre’s WWE Championship is of course, Seth Rollins and while he isn’t the man I would pick to take on Drew just yet and I certainly don’t want to see the title back on his shoulder Rollins makes for a great opponent for McIntyre sure to bring out the best wrestling match in the new champion out of everyone we will discuss on this roster. Both men share the achievement of defeating Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania for gold and with Rollins shining so bright in the role of a natural heel fans are sure to see him play on that shared moment digging into the fact that he has done it before Drew and it took him far quicker to get to the top than the Scottish star. There are some great classic heel vs face angles to see between these two and the in-ring work could go down so easily as the highlight of McIntyre’s WWE Championship reign.

Jinder Mahal

Okay, hear me out. Surely there is no better opponent for Drew McIntyre as WWE Champion than Jinder Mahal. While Mahal may not be a Seth Rollins in the ring the history and chemistry between these two superstars is stronger than anything we will see between McIntyre and any other WWE superstar. The story writes itself and with Jinder’s history as WWE champion, their time in 3MB and everything both superstars have been through personally what we are sure to get here is the best storyline of Drew’s WWE Championship reign and while the Wrestling may not be as strong as some of the other matches we could expect from the other names on this list I’m sure they would surprise as all and provide a match that we all enjoy and puts eyes back on Mahal while giving McIntyre a great detailed storyline during his reign.

Randy Orton

Despite his loss at Wrestlemania Randy Orton sits as a favourite to challenge McIntyre for the WWE Championship. While it was around a year ago that we saw Orton chase after the title when the championship was around the waist of Kofi Kingston, he still has the fight to become champ once again twelve months later. There is a nastiness, aggression, and viciousness in Orton that is deeper and clearer than ever before and with the time to build up some momentum, there is a great angle the WWE can go with here between these two superstars. Both dubbed as the next big thing during their separate times arriving in the WWE it was Orton who was the success story while years later McIntyre was unable to live up to his chosen one status. If the WWE can tap into that during the build to their WWE championship encounter, then we have a solid story heading into any PPV bout between them. As for the in-ring work, both superstars are tough competitors and hit hard. The similar build makes for something interesting and a sure entertaining match up.

Sheamus

Okay, so while Sheamus is currently on the Smackdown roster he’s a name I had to include in this list and I do hope that upon a superstar shakeup we will see Sheamus make the move to Monday Night RAW. In doing do so a collision with WWE Champion Drew McIntyre is a must considering their real-life friendship, in-depth history, and clear chemistry. Sheamus is a multi-time champion who has pretty much done and won it all including holding the WWE championship himself on more than one occasion. The two hard-hitting superstars have a lot to show but haven’t always had the best showing. Put them in the ring together, give them a lengthy amount of time to wrestle and a great storyline and we will have something that works as a standout moment of both men’s careers and Drews Championship reign.

There are still other names I would love to see McIntyre face during his WWE Championship reign from AJ Styles to NXT Talents such as Keith Lee or Dominic Dijacovik but who would u like to see share the ring with the Scottish Psychopath and who do you believe could dethrone McIntyre down the line?
