Potential Wrestlemania Opponents For John Cena

Sixteen-time world champion, John Cena may have adopted the role of a part-timer in recent years but that hasn’t stopped an array of dream matches involving up and coming talent and with Wrestlemania around the corner, the conversation regarding exactly who Cena could challenge on the grandest stage of them all has begun. From current NXT stars to legends, to main roster stars dominating Monday and Tuesday nights, today we take a look at potential Wrestlemania opponents for Cena this year.

Bobby Lashley

Looking at my list this is the name I’m not only least expecting to see but least excited about the idea of, however, none the less a clash between John Cena and Bobby Lashley makes for a contest that makes sense and promises some entertaining in-ring work. With Lashley sitting as the current IC Champion the simple storyline of Cena chasing after a title he hasn’t held before is Wrestlemania worthy in itself. The Interceptional championship is the only title the sixteen-time world champion hasn’t had sitting on his shoulder and heading into the biggest stage of them all I believe an angle that involves Cena either winning the title or leaving the WWE for good could bring out some of the best in Lashley and Lio Rush as well as some cool in-ring work between the two!

EC3

While rumoured opponents for EC3 have changed in recent weeks with Dean Ambrose the latest name teased to be his Mania opponent adding EC3 to this list may seem a little pointless but a one on one contest between the former NXT star and the sixteen-time world champion in John Cena remains a much anticipated and promising bout. The feeling of a passing of the torch style of contest is strong here with EC3 looking to become the new top star of the WWE a win or even a match against Cena at Mania will go a long way and with EC3 possessing some much charisma the build, promos, and segments we could see during a rivalry between these two would make for very entertaining viewing not to mention the quality of a match between them.

The Undertaker

As of writing this, the status of the Undertaker regarding this years Wrestlemania isn’t quite clear, however, when listing potential opponents for the dead man this year if he is to compete at the big one John Cena’s name is one that pops up on many fans’ lists. Now, this is because of a number of reasons but considering their first Mania encounter didn’t go down the way many expected a great deal of the WWE universe are still waiting for the collision they imagined for years! Wrestlemania has always been the stage in which these two superstars would tear the house down, show the world why they are two of the best in the history of the company, and compete in a total classic. Unfortunately, the first time around was done so bad can the WWE universe trust the WWE to get it right a second time? Can be it done right a second time? And exactly what are the chances of this still a dream match taking place at Mania?

Lars Sullivan

Lars Sullivan is a man bursting with potential and with the right direction he will most certainly have an epic WWE career and kick-starting that in the right way over on the main roster is vital. Mania season is the perfect opportunity for the up and coming star to make an impact and prove to the world he is a major name to keep your eyes on and what better way to book him as the next big thing than putting him in the ring against John Cena at the grandest stage of them all? It may take some convincing and very strong booking over the coming months for fans to be sold completely on Sullivan being given such a big match at Mania in his first year on the main roster but with Lars having such an intense character, impressive move set and dominant appearance there is so much potential for this to be a very strong matchup not to mention I believe Sullivan will benefit the most out of everyone on this list from a one on one against Cena at Wrestlemania.

Andrade Cien Almas

Throughout the past year, Andrade Cien Almas has proven to be one of the best all-around WWE superstars on the entire roster today and a major push is something I and so many fans are desperate to see this year. So far twenty nineteen has been a strong start for Almas with impressive and standout bouts against Rey Mysterio taking place on Smackdown LIVE but heading into Wrestlemania and looking at the best possible opponents for Almas it’s clear that John Cena is a name to consider. Looking at today’s list its Almas I believe could get the best match out of Cena with his in-ring style being so diverse and impressive there is no doubt that bout between the pair would make for something very entertaining that could so easily go down as career highlights for the pair and a potential match of the year contender. With Zelina by Andrade’s side, the build to this bout would most certainly go down as a strong and we have already seen the pair collide on an episode of Smackdown LIVE during mixed tag team action. A booking move like this would be huge for Almas and at this stage of his career exactly what he needs.

Drew McIntyre

And the last name I want to talk about today is, of course, Drew McIntyre. In recent months we have seen these two superstars come face to face and square off against one another but a much larger encounter at Wrestlemania makes for an important and career-changing moment for Drew McIntyre who is destined to get his hands-on championship gold at some point this year. Now, because of what we have seen from the pair recently I do doubt this match could happen with a strong enough story behind it but with McIntyre a major fan favourite a name largely considered to be the next big thing a win over Cena at Wrestlemania in April is one the WWE may not want to miss out on and the ring action we could see between Cena and Drew is something very special and if you consider adding Vince McMahon to the picture and injected into this storyline then this all of a sudden becomes a much more interesting and important match.

And those are just some of the names Cena could step in the ring against at this years Wrestlemania. There are so many options as to who could take this spot but none the less the roster is currently more stacked than ever before and so regardless Cena and all the names above are in for a very strong Mania night in April!
