IMPACT Wrestling Homecoming: Why You Should Have Watched

I’ll admit, I haven’t ever truly been a hardcore Impact Wrestling a fan and over the years I’ve only ever written a handful of articles focused on the promotion and its stars, however, after tuning into the Homecoming PPV this past week I was left with plenty to say and a far greater interest in Impact Wrestling. With that being said today I’m going to be telling you why to believe you should go back and watch the show and why Homecoming proved Impact Wrestling is massively underrated in the industry today.

Ultimate X

Ultimate X has always been a unique and excepting prospect within the world of pro wrestling and something special IMPACT has always had. At the Homecoming PPV, this past week fans witnessed Rich Swann, Trey, Ethan Page, and Jake Crist compete in the highly athletic and challenging contest. As we have seen in many of these matches before this was an exciting, fast paced, action packed encounter that kickstarted the night a major high. Every man competing had their moment in the spotlight all bringing something slightly different to the table. Trey was the younger more inexperienced yet athletic star who showed to have some serious potential and most certainly is one to watch, Ethan Page had some awesome spots including a spear delivered to Jake Crist that went down as a highlight of the match, Crist was for me the standout of the bout and Rich Swann went on to pick up the win after a very impressive and memorable performance. This was an extremely exciting opening match that truly demonstrated the level of competition on the roster today but also showcased the future of the company and the wrestling world.

The Return of Rosemary

One of my favourite storylines’s over on IMPACT over the past year has been the growth of Su Yung. Her captivating, chilling, and unique character has brought so much to the knockouts division ad the story fans witnessed between Yung and Rosemary was a highlight of women’s wrestling in twenty eighteen and so the closing moments that followed an epic tag team match had me completely marking out and I have no shame In admitting that. The return of Rosemary at Homecoming wasn’t something that truly had us gasping with surprise but none the less it was an awesome moment that had the crowd loud and excited. It was the perfect way to conclude what was already a strong part of the show and had allowed the story involving Su and Ally to develop and left fans at home very interested in what is to develop here.

Something for Everyone

One thing that really did stand out and went down so well for me was the fact there really was something for everyone on this card. Whether it be hardcore action from the likes of Abyss and Eli Drake, an emotional and satisfying contest between Moose and Eddie Edwards, tag team action, plenty from the knockout’s division, or some simply epic pro wrestling, Homecoming catered to everyone and that’s something that can truly be difficult to achieve in the world of wrestling today. Every match felt as though it belonged on the card and the night as a whole kept a strong amount of the roster busy and in the spotlight and the show reflected what IMPACT wrestling is all about, diversity, so amazingly well.

An excellent showing of women’s wrestling

With two knockouts matches on the card I was very much interested to see what both would bring to the table and come the end of each one I was not left disappointed. The tag team bout that first took place during the first hour was an excellent showing of how tag team wrestling should be down and proved it can be very well done within women’s wrestling. Ally and Su Yung worked amazingly well together to the point where I couldn’t help but wish there were still tag team titles for the division for these two have everything it takes and how well they worked together was something you could not miss! We had amazing storytelling throughout, fantastic spots and every single woman competing had an excellent showing and highlighted just how damn strong women’s wrestling is today in every promotion!

Later in the night, the anticipated matchup between Tessa Blanchard and Taya took place for the Knockouts championship and again fans were not left disappointed. The two women have fantastic chemistry and complimented each other in the ring amazingly well not to mention the addition of Gail Kim taking on the role of special guest referee made this even stronger and a bigger highlight of the night. The ongoing tensions between Gail and Tessa left me and many others desperate to see a one on one between the two and the decision to have Taya walk out the new champion was one that went down as one of the bigger surprises of the night but again the match overall was as strong as expected and I can honestly say I really enjoyed this bout!

Tag Team Wrestling at its Best

For me personally, the match I was most looking forward was the tag team title bout between LAX and the Lucha brothers. From the get-go, this was a fast paced, action packed match full of intense and crazy athleticism, culture, and sheer wrestling excellence. Highlighting the future of wrestling and shining a light on one of the best pro wrestlers in the world today in Pentagon JR this was a match that showed the universe what this industry has to offer today and the standard. There was not a single dull moment throughout and with many expecting this to be a standout contest the two teams did not disappoint. The crowd was on their feet and loud from the moment the action started, and you couldn’t blink without missing something major. Raising the bar for tag teams worldwide it was this contest that reminded of just how strong tag team wrestling can be today and if you need a reminder and want to see some epic action CHECK OUT THIS MATCH.

The Power Couple

Come the end of the night it was evident two talents were reigning at the top of the Impact Roster, Johnny Impact, and Taya Valkyrie. After an epic Knockouts women’s championship match that saw Taya take the title home and an awesome main event that saw Johnny remain on top the two have established themselves as the true power couple in wrestling today. We have seen the married couple dominate during their time in several promotions but the year ahead is looking extremely bright with a phenomenal start to twenty nineteen. The homecoming pay per view was an excellent showing of both talents and allowed fans to see what these two bring to the table, why they are at the top and the best of their in-ring abilities.

The NXT Feel

Despite being three hours in length every hour of the Homecoming PPV felt strong and I didn’t once lose interest in what was being presented. From the start to the end of the night each match provided fans with fantastic wrestling and extremely strong storytelling and smart booking. The night set up several new bouts, segments, and feuds for the year ahead while also highlighting the standout stars of the promotion. What we saw here was no wasted time, strong storylines and simply outstanding wrestling content similar to what we see and feel when watching an NXT takeover event.

Homecoming was an excellent way to kick start the year for IMPACT wrestling, despite the forever changing and mixed feelings on the promotion this PPV truly highlighted the standard of the show and matches and the quality of the storylines presented. Each match felt as though it was placed at the right time and while it wasn’t a completely perfect show I believe this was enough o have me tuning in for a long time and if you haven’t watched I advise you go back and check it out and learn exactly why you should be setting your sights on Impact Wrestling in twenty nineteen.
