This Weeks AEW Dynamite Review
This week fans were treated to a very strong episode of AEW Dynamite.
With so much going down this was a stacked show that delivered in every aspect.
With so many talking points and so many important moments, there is plenty to discuss
and so in today’s blog post we are going to be taking a look back at this weeks
AEW Dynamite, reviewing the show and discussing some of the best and not so
best moments of the week.
The Opener
We have got to start off today’s blog post with the opening
of this week's AEW Dynamite episode. With the first round of the AEW World Tag
Team tournament taking place it was easy to assume we had a fairly predictable encounter
on our hands with newcomers Private Party taking on arguably the greatest tag
team in the world today The Young Bucks but boy were we left with a surprise
end result! Now, this match did exactly what it should have done. We had a bout
here consisting of new faces and true veterans and what we saw was Private
Party go over massively. This was an incredible match up and by far one of my
favourite tag team contests in a while, but we truly did see stars made of
Private Party. They won fans over, the crowd shifted to be completely behind
them and with their huge win a great message was made clear. This is how you
handle a tournament, take at as a chance to showcase new talent and this win
will do wonders for Private Party regardless!
Shots Fired/ Meet the Inner Circle
I’m pretty sure it's safe to say that Chris Jericho put Jake
Hager over more than the WWE ever did in the space of two minutes. When Chris
Jericho took to the mic to introduce his new stable, The Inner Circle, I was
left with my mouth wide open in pure shock. Proving to be one of the best talkers
in pro wrestling today and quite possibly of all time there were shots fired
left right and center! From reacting to the crowds “we the people” chant and calling
it “a stupid idea from bad creative” and naming it “dead and buried” simply
reminding us of the real wrestling war going on right now! He also directed
attacks at Cody Rhodes and his family and left every single fan hanging on his
every word. Jericho did a fantastic job introducing each member of the Inner
Circle and giving us bags and bags of character while doing do. By far one of
the best promos I’ve seen in a hot minute!
We Needed More
A matchup I was personally really excited for was the one
on one encounter between rising star Darby Allen and veteran Jimmy Havok. As two
stars no stranger to hardcore competition it was exciting to see the pair take
part in a match where their wrestling skill was the key focus and while I enjoyed
what we did see my issue with this match was the length. I do just wish we got
to see a little more here between the two but I do believe we will be seeing
the pair face off again in the future. Darbys win made great sense and I cannot
wait to see him collide with Jericho however, moving forward its important we
get to see Jimmy gain more momentum for he still appears to be a star we are
yet to see the very best of and for him to get that spotlight he deserves.
Growing Work in the Women’s Division
The AEW Women’s division continues to be an area that needs
work. This week's episode of Dynamite saw some tag team action that again just
wasn’t long enough. We go to see the rivalry between Britt Baker and Bea Priestley
develop which promises some brilliant work down the line but again, the length
of this match was the downfall. There just wasn’t enough and considering the
women’s division needs so much work it's so important that in the coming weeks
we see longer matches and more attention on building storylines. It was, however, great to see some new faces competing.
Star Quality
One of the standouts matches of the night and biggest draws
were the singles bout between two former WWE talents in the form of Jon Moxley
and Shawn Spears and with Pac at the announce table this was a massive eye-opening
area of the night. Spears and Moxley took part in a brilliant match up that I
did really enjoy from the get-go. They proved a heck of a lot in this encounter
but what was so clear here was the star quality. We have three incredible heels
here all of which could, and I believe will go on to become champion down the
line. All three men have so much star quality and are bringing to much to AEW
and their characters play vital roles in the development of the company. An eye-opening
area of the night this match was one of my personal fave encounters of the evening
and I cannot wait to see what develops in terms of the careers here in AEW for
all three men.
Kenny Omega and Moxley’s moment after this match l with the
introduction of PAC into the situation has really changed the landscape and set
up so much work in the coming weeks. Again, these are three huge names and
things have defiantly gotten more interesting after what we saw go down here.
The Layout and the Little Details
What stood out to me with this week's AEW Dynamite show was
the layout. It would have been incredibly predictable to have Jericho and the
Inner Circle kick starts the show following what we saw last week but going
straight into the action with the tag team tournament was so refreshing and
kick-started the night on such a high. This was a clear example of smart
booking and throughout the night there was a brilliant layout to the show that
left us entertained completely. We also saw those small little details really
come into play; from the other tag teams competing in the tournament being at
ringside and reacting to the first match of the tournament was such a cool
little detail that while small really did pay off and have an effect! We can
also see the win/loss record and the importance of it coming into play with
Britt Baker receiving a title match next week. These little details really do
come into play and I love that!
For me, personally, AEW won the wrestling wars this week
when going up against NXT. While I enjoyed both shows it was Dynamite that left
me entertained from the get-go and had me feeling more. The main event was very
smartly booked considering the history between the superstars involved and what
we have seen so far in AEW between them and you really can feel the show coming
into its own already! Next week, I will be reviewing NXT so tune into that but
for now, you can let me know what you thought of both shows his week by leaving
