WWE Superstars in need Of A Character Reboot

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World, I hope you are all well and good. Today I have a blog post that I have been wanting to write and upload for a long time and after the debut of Apollo Crews and watching his booking over the past month I was inspired even more to get writing and sharing with you guys, so today we are talking about character. We all know how important a good character is in the world of sports entertainment. Superstars today such as Roman Reigns and Enzo Amore are the perfect example of how important having a strong and gripping character is in the WWE. However, there are plenty of superstars currently active who are in a serious need of changing things up and get that little boost in their character and that is exactly what we are going to be talking about in this weeks top five as I bring you a list of current superstars who are desperately in need of a character reboot. For this week we are going to be focusing mainly on the main roster but if you would like to see an NXT edition than let me know and I will for sure get that done! As usual any recent blog post including my most recent RAW Review and Reactions post will be linked bellow at the very end of this post and as always you can have your say and tell me who you think is in serious need of a character reboot by leaving a comment bellow or by tweeting me at @TezangiVictoria.

The Ascension
Come on, you guys knew the Ascension were going to feature in this blog post, they had to! Over the years I have written plenty about these guys both here on my blog and on twitter. I have said it time and time again that since the moment I first watched these two compete I was hooked. The idea of the Ascension has been one going for many years starting all the way back in FCW and it has in my eyes always worked right up until they debuted on the main roster. Since their call up the two superstars have been treated terribly with their booking being beyond bad and no direction what so ever. If you look back what they achieved in NXT and what they have bee doing over the past couple of years it's painful. These are the guys that dominated NXT, who were the longest reigning NXT Tag team champions and one of the most feared, respected, and over superstars on the roster and now they struggle to get onto the Superstars show every other week. I honestly never thought that these two would end up in the position they are currently in. After having such a strong and dominate run in NXT and being so different anyone would have believed that they were on their way to great success but the truth is is that the WWE have got it wrong with these two from the moment they debuted them on the main roster.  I have said it before but the change up in their attire, the extra make up and their clear attempts to turn them into a new version of Road Warriors set them up for failure and their early bookings and how they had to come across has left them with no real way to turn it around and the fans just haven't jumped on board with them. It is so frustrating to see and over the past year I have said so many times that for the people that have never seen their NXT work they must have the worse opinions of them. Every time the Ascension do come back to NXT they always receive a huge reaction from the crowd and it does make me wish that they could go back to NXT witch to be honest I can see happening if the WWE don't try and make it work with these two. The Ascension have proved that their character does work in the past all the WWE need to do is take a step back and take them back to the days were they were much less theatrical and dramatic. Strip it back and reboot them and these could or in fact will be a great success. With one of the guys suspended at the moment it means that we could hopefully see them take a much needed break from TV and come back in the summer making a huge impact cutting promos backstage and video packages hyping their return. It may seem a touch unlikely but  with their talent and putting into consideration what they achieved in NXT I really do hope the WWE have something good planned for them in the near future.

Fandango

Fandango is a superstar that I have changed my opinions on several times over the years. He's a superstar who clearly is very talented and on paper appears to have it all; Good looks, charisma, mic ability, in ring skills, and experience. Why the WWE have never pushed him to the moon I have no idea.  His career actually started out very well and promising back when he was competing for FCW and apart of NXT season four but once he received his call up to the main roster where he would then become Fandango nothing has worked and his character has been the root of all his problems. Yes, he has had a couple of stand out moments including that victory over Chris Jericho at his first Wrestlemania witch most people have actually forgotten anyway. It's a shame to see such a talented and promising superstar wasted so massively and  misused. The best thing about Fandango is he's still young and he still has so much more to bring. If the WWE decided to take him off TV and repackage him things could completely turn around and there would be enough time for him to finally have the career he deserves. In an ideal world I would love to see him go back down to NXT after being away from TV for a while. They could spend some time hyping a new character coming to NXT and he could spend the best part of a year building that new character up and slowly making his way back to the main roster. The chances of this happening at this point are very slim due to so many new stars making their way both to NXT and the WWE Main roster but it would be shame for the WWE to waste a talent like Fandango so much. His character has never worked and while it's funny at times and gives us a thew chants he really does deserve a lot lot more.

Apollo Crews
And now the man that inspired me the most to write this post, Apollo Crews. As a fan of the indie scene I have been following Crews' (formally known as Uhaa Nation) for a long time and he's someone I have spent a great deal of time talking about over the years. A fantastic in ring performer with one of the most diverse move sets currently on the scene this is a man that is for sure set for great success however he is missing that one important thing, character. We all know that Apollo Crews is capable of putting on some outstanding matches, we've already seen so in fact, but one thing that has continued to come up is his lack of character. At the moment the question Who Is Apollo Crews? is still something commonly spoken about amongst fans. The WWE are yet to give him a defined character with a story and  purpose. At the moment his the happy to be here, smiley indie talent with serious potential. When you have character such as Kevin Owens, Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt, and Finn Balor to compete with what we are currently seeing from Crews isn't going to be enough to carry him to the top where he belongs. Of course he is still very very new to the main roster and for all we know the WWE could have huge plans for Crews in the near future, a similar build up was used with Rusev a couple of years ago where we saw him booked in squash matches and feuds for several months to build up his character and later on into the year he found himself
competing in some of the greatest matches and storyline's of the year, but of course Rusev had one of the most controversial and hot characters. Another clear indication that Crews is in serious need of
changing things up character wise and also another thing that shows how important character is is Baron Corbin's debut. Both Crews and Corbin both got their call ups on the same day (kind of) both debuting on Monday night RAW however there was clearly a big big different in how they were being booked. Corbin who has developed his character majorly over the past year coming across as the dominate bad ass willing to legitimately take out anyone in his way had a strong purpose and character that made him easy to put him in a storyline and as a result in the space of twenty four hours found himself as the third Andre the Giant memorial battle royal winner and a decent debut match against former World Heavyweight Champion and sending out a huge message. Since then Corbin has booked in a solid storyline with Ziggler making to the Payback pay per view. Crews however has been left booked in four minuet simple matches against the likes of Heath Slater, Curtis Axel and Stardust with no clear direction. I honestly have serious faith in Crews and I do think that with the right character and direction he could be a serious part of the future of the WWE and as one of the youngest superstars on the roster he has the time and the potential to be phenomenal. What he needs right now is a goal, a purpose, more TV and mic time and a strong storyline coming his way. A heel turn could be on the cards later on in the year and he would make a great heel but for now the WWE really could easily do a good job getting him over as one of their top baby faces.
