Smackdown LIVE after Wrestlemania: It's All about the Women

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World, I hope you are all well and good and are having a good week so far! Okay, so we are finally done with Wrestlemania week and what a week it has been. From NXT Takeover to Wrestlemania itself to a must-see episode of Monday Night RAW, the WWE has treated us, got us talking, and made some huge announcements and throughout the week we have been focusing on the biggest seven days in the world of pro wrestling! In today's blog post we are going to be taking a look at last nights episode of Smackdown LIVE which, to be honest, I was left rather disappointed with. Monday's episode of RAW was stacked! Full of returns, debuts, and exciting storylines kick-starting we all expected to see the blue brand provide a similar kind of night but instead the night actually focused more so on the women's division and there was a lack of debuts, no returns, and very very few surprises. Saying that we do have a lot to touch on today and plenty to talk about in detail so get prepared! Next week I will be focusing on the Superstar Shake Up and a last look at Wrestlemania weekend! For now, any recent blog posts will be linked below including my Wrestlemania and RAW after Wrestlemania Reviews. Finally, you can get involved and tell me what you thought of last nights show by leaving a comment below or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.

New Smackdown LIVE General Manager Announced

One of the best moments from last nights episode of Smackdown LIVE took place in the opening five minutes of the show where Shane McMahon made a huge announcement revealing the brand new Smackdown LIVE general manager. There has been speculation throughout the day as to who would be taking on the role with many believing the new Hall of Fame inductee Jeff Jarett would be announced as the new GM, however, to everyone's surprise, Shane wasted no time in revealing that former WWE Divas Champion Paige is the brand new Smackdown LIVE General Manager. Less than twenty-four hours after announcing her retirement from in-ring action  Paige was given a perfectly fitting role. It would have been such a shame to see her part ways with the company completely and I'm so glad they were able to find something that really works and actually is a major role. I do feel as though she's going to bring something different and exciting to the show and this is the start of a great new future for Paige.

And Iconic Smackdown LIVE

Last night surprisingly only showed two debuts both of which coming from the women's division and of course comes as no surprise. After spending a great deal of time down in NXT it was finally time for Peyton Royce and Billie Kay to arrive on Smackdown LIVE. The moment the pair came out the crowd was loud and on their feet which also came as no surprise. Fans have been waiting to see these two join the main roster for quite some time now with both proving to be ready for several months. Their debut, however, was done perfectly. The crowd reaction spoke volumes and the impact they made was very strong. Attacking the Smackdown LIVE women's champion, Royce and Kay showed their dominance and what they are about and their segment was one of the best of the night. Their mic work was decent and relevant and the attack had them looking like a genuine threat. Judging by how they were booked last night I do believe they both have a good few months ahead of them and I really hope the WWE keep them on track and keep them looking the way they did last night and book them strongly in the coming months. They also do raise the conversation in regards to creating a women's tag team division.

Missed Opportunity for Rusev

On Sunday night at the grandest stage of them, all Jinder Mahal defeated Randy Orton, Rusev, and Bobby Roode in a fatal four way to be crowned the brand new United States championship, a decsion I actually really liked and had no problem with. During last nights show, Orton, Rusev, and Roode competed in a number one contenders triple threat match which to be honest didn't really need to take place considering Orton would have been entitled to a rematch anyway. What frustrated me, however, was the end result. The crowd was very clearly all for Rusev. There is no denying that right now, he is one of the most over talents in all of professional wrestling. Fans are so high on him and it's clear the WWE is aware of that because they added him to the Mania United States Championship match and so keeping all that in mind I was really surprised to see them not give him the victory in last nights episode of Smackdown LIVE during the triple threat match. Everyone in the arena and at home were backing RuRu and I do feel as though they missed out on a huge opportunity here. Personally, I don't want to see him switch brands next week and I hope that once Orton is done chasing after the US championship against Mahal Rusev will have his moment and they will finally turn him face.

Carmella Cashes in

The biggest surprise and one of the better moments of last nights episode of Smackdown LIVE came from the women's division once again when Carmella finally cashed in her Money in the Bank contract after waiting over two hundred days. Following the attack at the hands of the Iconic Duo, Carmella saw the perfect opportunity to cash in on a beaten down Charlotte and was able to quickly get the victory and walk out as the brand new Smackdown LIVE women's champion. Firstly, I didn't understand why it took the referee so long to announce she was cashing in, secondly, the crowd reaction was brilliant, and thirdly, I'm glad this was finally done and done on this particular night. The timing did feel right however, it's clear that this could either go two ways; we will either see Carmella drop the title to Charlotte at the next pay per view or Charlotte will move back over to Monday Night RAW next week during the superstar shakeup. However, regardless of what happens next week and over the following month, I was super excited to see Mella cash in and happy to see her walk out with the title and a great start to a new season.

The night of the Women

The Smackdown LIVE after Wrestlemania was rather disappointing. It lacked surprises, debuts, and returns, however, what was perfectly clear was simply how much the show focused on women. From Paige being announced as the new General Manager to the debut of the Iconic Duo, to seeing Carmella cash in. Every surprise and shocking moment came from the women's division/female
talent and that's something we can't really complain about because it's something we have all wanted to see for a while. What I'm expecting is to see more surprises in terms of debuts and returns for Smackdown LIVE on next weeks show especially considering next week will be focusing on roster changes during the superstar shake-up. Expect the likes of Andrade Cien Almas, Drew McIntyre, and Sanity to arrive on the blue brand next week! During last nights show, we also saw some great backstage work with Shinsuke Nakamura and an interesting main event between AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan.

And that was Smackdown LIVE! Next week I will be focusing on the Superstar Shake Up and a last look at Wrestlemania weekend!
