5 Thoughts the WWE Mixed Match Challenge Left us With

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World, I hope you are all well and good and have had a great week! For anyone that has been reading my blog over the past few months or has followed me be on twitter will know that one of my personal favourites highlights of the year so far has been the WWE mixed match challenge. I loved everything about this idea. From the teams to the matches, to the energy. This was a fun, interesting, and entertaining idea that really got fans talking and opened so many doors. I recently was apart of an article that spoke about the potential of the WWE bringing back intergender matches and in that article, I touch on the mixed match challenge a lot so that will be linked bellow also! In today's blog post I'm going to be taking an even bigger look into the Mixed Match Challenge listing five of the highlights and what we as fans and the WWE can take away from the tournament. I will also be listing some of my favourite matches from the challenge at the end of today's blog post. As always, any recent blog posts will be linked below including my Wrestlemania and NXT Takeover: New Orleans reviews! Finally, you can get involved and tell me what you thought of the WWE Mixed Match Challenge by leaving a comment below or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.

Future Work between Alexa Bliss and Braun Strowman

The WWE mixed match Challenge was jam-packed full of brilliant parings including husband and wife teams such as Jimmy Uso and Naomi and of course Lana and Rusev, however, for me, the team who really stole the show in terms of chemistry was Alexa Bliss and Braun Strowman. The complete opposites the smallest and the biggest superstars on the roster came together to create one damn entertaining duo. From their backstage videos to their in-ring work together they both shone brightly and what it has done was open doors for a possible future angle. Throughout the mixed match challenge, we saw Strowman rather smitten for the former RAW women's champion. Blushing and protecting her the WWE teased a little romantic angle, however, while I do want to see the pair work together in the future jumping into a romantic storyline isn't something I want to see made the focal point of the story. The WWE has really spent time in the past focusing on Alexa's manipulative side of her character and what I would like to see is for them to do that once again. With her eyes set on the RAW women's championship once again Bliss ventures out to look for some muscle and with Strowman on her side she sees an opportunity. This is something the WWE can really build over time and actually make into something really strong. Both Braun and Alexa as champions at some point possibly near the end of the year could make for something really interesting but if you would like a How I would Book post on this do let me know!

Intergender Matches

As I mentioned in the opening of this blog post, I recently was apart of an article focusing on the possibilities of the WWE bringing back intergender matches and I will link that below so you can check that out in full. Now, in that article, I mentioned the impact the Mixed Match Challenge had on this topic and while we are still quite far away from seeing these kinds of matches make a return to World Wrestling Entertainment, the mixed Match challenge sure did open some doors and kick-start the conversation again. The rules of the challenge clearly stated that male superstars will wrestle male superstars and female superstars will wrestle female superstars, however, week in and week out we did get to see little moments where those rules were broken and while it wasn't anything major as I already mentioned it sparked a conversation and once again got people talking about the possibilities of intergender matches returning. Throughout the past year, they have been teased with Becky Lynch vs James Ellsworth taking place last year and Ronda Rousey squaring off against Triple H several times during her mixed tag team match at Wrestlemania only last Sunday.

The Miz and Asuka get the Victory

When it came down to who should have got the win I do believe the right team one. I personally was backing Bliss and Strowman as I stated very early on but with Asuka still ruling her undefeated streak it made all the sense in the world to have her alongside the Miz take the victory. For me, however, I loved the idea of Miz winning this more than the importance of Asuka at the time continuing her undefeated streak. Miz is someone who has been on such a role over the past couple of years making his way up to the top so much to the point where many fans believe he should at some point this year take home the WWE championship. Winning the Mixed Match Challenge was another moment we saw his momentum increase but what it also has done was kept fans talking about him, added more to his character, story, and legacy. It's evident that with this team it was all eyes on Asuka but the choice to have these two get the win was a hundred percent the right one!

Goldust and Mandy Rose Must Have an Angle

I have already mentioned that I believed the team with the most chemistry during the Mixed Match Challenge was the team of Alexa Bliss and Braun Strowman but very close behind them was the duo consisting of Mandy Rose and Goldust. This a dream team if there ever was one. Goldie is someone who can bring so much to Mandy's character and career. With the superstar shake upset to take place this coming week I'm hoping that the WWE will move these two to Smackdown LIVE together or to be fair they could keep them both on Monday night RAW, however, regardless the goal should be to keep these two on the same brand and work on building something. Their chemistry was fantastic but it was their look and characters that complimented each other so much. The pair managed to work together amazingly well and the moment they shared a screen I wanted to see from the both as a duo. Goldust is in need of something new, exciting and entertaining that really works and pairing him with newcomer Mandy Rose may be the best option for them both. While it's an option to keep Mandy and Sonya together it looks unlikely especially considering Paige has now moved to Smackdown LIVE to take on the role as General Manager meaning Absolution looks to have come to an end. Both Sonya and Mandy will be perfectly fine on their own, however, while Sonya isn't in need of someone to stand by her side, Mandy ar the moment does still feel as though she is in need of that mouthpiece and extra part to her character. Resorting back to a little old school Goldust and creating a modern-day version of what we saw between Goldie and Terri Runnels with Mandy Rose could be perfect!

Bringing Fun back to the WWE

What I personally loved the most about the WWE mixed Match challenge was the fun factor. This was one of the only times where we saw superstars just having fun. There were no big storyline's involved, we got to see some funny little elements during matches here and there, occasionally we saw guys and girls wrestle one another, and it was just fun to watch. It showed exactly what the
WWE is missing today and that's fun. It wasn't crazy structured and full of politics. This was a night once a week where superstars looked as though they could relax a little and have some fun. It wasn't made into something serious. We had married couples working together, dream teams like Finn Balor and Sasha Banks, and cute funny stories that were just fun like Charlotte and Bobby Roode and the fun we saw between Balor and Banks. If the WWE can do more like what we saw here then it can only bring good things to the company and the overall feel.
