This Weeks RAW and Smackdown LIVE Highlights: The better Show

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World, I hope you are all well and good and have had a great week so far! So we have once again reached the middle point of another week which of course means its time to take a look back at what we have seen so far and evaluate the highlights from this week's RAW and Smackdown LIVE and looking at what of the two shows was the better this week. Now I have plenty I want to talk about today so make sure you have a drink with you! This is my first week back looking at both shows in one post, as you know the past few weeks I have uploaded these separately. I would, however, love to know what you guys prefer; are you more interested in in-depth looks at each show meaning a separate post for RAW and Smackdown LIVE highlights or do you prefer posts like this where I discuss both shows in one post? Do make sure to let me know! Just a heads up, I will not be live tweeting during Fridays Greatest Royal Rumble show and a review on it is unlikely to go up but I will have a post discussing why in the future so keep an eye out for that! As always any recent blog posts will be linked below and you can get involved and tell me what you thought of this week's RAW and Smackdown LIVE by leaving a comment below or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.

Where is the rest?

One of the biggest matches set to take place this Friday at the Greatest Royal Rumble event will see  Brock Lesnar defend his Universal Championship against Roman Reigns once again, however, this time inside a steel cage. With such a big match being on the card and with so much on the line you would assume the WWE would focus on a bigger build and attempt to really draw fans in pushing this as a must-see contest, however, the very minimalistic segment was... well underwhelming to say the least. We have seen so much go down between these two in the past which does mean that finding something original isn't as simple but what we got did not sell this up and coming match. There was no heat, no confrontation, and no collision between the two. I do believe that Reigns has currently found himself in an odd position on the roster and in his career. Regardless of the end result on Friday Reigns needs to come back with something new. Whether it be the heel turn we have all been waiting for or a brand new fresh feud that really gets him over we need something exciting and new and hopefully a fresh start can begin for the big dog.

A not so positive start for RAW's New Commer's

I'm pretty sure that a lot of you are fed up of hearing me complain about Drew McIntyre and his new position in the WWE but it really has not gone down well with me. Of course, upon his return fans wanted to believe that McIntyre would come back and receive the push of the year but in actual fact, things haven't started the way many believed it would. While his run in NXT was strong McIntyre has been paired with Dolph Ziggler in a very strange move. Of course, there is potential there and there is a lot the WWE can do but in comparison to what fans wanted to see this just doesn't match that. McIntyre should be looking at being pushed as a future world champion and I'm unsure of whether or not this is the right way to kick-start his run on the RAW roster. Then we have Bobby Roode who was booked to lose against Elias during this weeks episode. This could very well simply be building up to Roode turning heel which of course is what we would all love to see however, this wasn't a strong night nor a strong start prior to the superstar shake-up for the former US Champion.

The Segment of the night

And the final point I wanted to touch on today is what I believed to be the segment of the night and this time it came from Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. These two are simply the dream team. Their chemistry is fantastic and everything the pair do from in-ring work to mic work is fantastic and all of that was on show this past Monday on RAW. The move from Smackdown LIVE to Monday nights is proving to be a good one and the fresh start hasn't seen a big change in how the two are booked and what we see from them. Their attitude remains the same and their relationship with general manager Kurt Angle makes for entertaining viewing with similarities to what we saw between the pair and Shane McMahon over on the blue brand.

Big Cass Sends a Message

This weeks episode of Smackdown LIVE kick-started strong with an edition of Miz TV. However, instead of scheduled guest Daniel Bryan the Miz was welcomed by newly returned Big Cass. Prior to this Miz had spoken about his relationship with Daniel Bryan, his up and coming IC Championship match, and becoming a father and what that has meant. Claiming to be a changed man Miz explained that he wanted to clear the air with Bryan and for Daniel to come out to the ring and punch him the face like he claimed he wanted to do just last week. However, of course, it was Big Cass who instead made an appearance and was let loose on the mic. Now, this was no promo of the year but it was important. Cass has come back after eight months away from the ring and it's clear the WWE have some good things coming up for him. Will he become WWE Champion? It's very unlikely but will he make an impact? Most certainly. There are plenty of opportunities coming his way and elegance with the Miz may be a direction to explore despite the two clashing during last nights show. Right now, Cass' story really does focus on him simply being big which won't get him over for very long but if he can really explore his character show sheer dominance on the blue brand then a bright future may be ahead of him.

A Must win for the IIConics

I'll be honest, I freaking love Billie Kay and Peyton Royce. With rumors heavy right now in terms of a women's tag team title making its way to the WWE these two really are at the forefront of who I personally would love to see make history and become the first women to hold those championships but I was worried. After Billie Kay suffered a lost in her first ever match on Smackdown LIVE I did for a moment worry about the future for these two former NXT stars, however, this week we got to see the IIConics take on the team of Becky Lynch and Asuka and while the match wasn't the best of the night it did what it needed to do. Kay and Royce were highlighted as a perfect unit. The pair worked amazingly well showcasing their chemistry while also pointing out the lack of chemistry between their opposing team. Lynch and Asuka didn't work as well together and in return, it really did allow the newcomers to prove they are two to really watch out for.

Shelton Benjamin vs Randy Orton

Okay, so again this wasn't a match of the year candidate however it was one of my personal favourite matches of the night this week. Everything from the in-ring work, the length, and the booking were good. I was entertained, hooked and as a fan growing up in the noughties it was pretty awesome to be witnessing Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton, and Shelton Benjamin all on my screen at the same time again. The match as decent but without ad break, it, of course, would have been far stronger. I did really like seeing Sunil Singh play his part taking out Hardy ahead of the US Championship match set to take place between Jeff and Jinder Mahal this Friday but it all tied together perfectly with Shelton picking up the big victory over Randy Orton. These three stars are working very well together and I'm excited to see where things go next!

The Better Show this week

I think it's pretty clear the better show this week was, of course, Smackdown LIVE. I found myself far more entertained and invested in what the Blue brand had to offer this week. We had a couple of strong matches and I felt as though the roster altogether was shown far better. I'm loving the work Naomi is doing alongside Jimmy and Jey and seeing how that develops is pretty interesting. We had some much-needed victories for the likes of Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, and Shelton Benjamin as well as a really good segment from Carmella and Charlotte and then, of course, a fun main event that really tied the show together well. I did struggle to enjoy RAW as much but hopefully, things can pick up next week!
