Best and Worse Moments from MITB 2019

Last night fans witnessed the two thousand and nineteen Money in the Bank PPV and what a night it was! As one of my personal favourite events of the year, I was of course super excited and come the end of the night I was not left disappointed! From start to finish the WWE provided entertaining content and gave its audience plenty to talk about. In today’s blog post we are going to be re-visiting Money in the Bank and taking a look at some of the best and worse moments from this huge event.

Stars Were Made

In my personal opinion, this year’s women’s MITB ladder match was the best to date. While I originally was concerned with the line up the contest was in actual fact the best performance, we have seen from a women’s MITB ladder match so far. The match saw excellent performances from every single woman involved and there never for a second felt as though there was a competitor who didn’t belong, and we instead saw stars truly made. From Nikki Cross’ role and her chance to showcase just how comfortable she is in barbaric competition to the storytelling we saw between Mandy Rose and Carmella all the way to the brilliant athletic performances from Dana, Naomi, and Ember Moon. The spots performed were smart, entertaining and all around this was an excellent way to kick start the show and these standout performances were massively vital for the women involved.

Rey’s Win

The first down of the night, in my opinion, comes from the result of the United States championship bout against Rey Mysterio and Samoa Joe. While of course, I’m glad to see Rey as champion as he truly does deserve it and what we saw from Joe allowed fans to really witness just how dangerous and ruthless Joe is, the win was questionable, to say the least, and how the end result was booked done nothing for the new champ and made next to no sense. Having Rey pick up the win despite Joe’s shoulder being up off the matt didn’t match his character nor make sense and left a disappointing feeling. Its clear things are far from over between these two superstars but several big opportunities were missed last night.

Privilege

I mentioned in my Wrestlemania review that I was surprised at just how strong the one on one contest between the Miz and Shane McMahon actually was and last nights MITB PPV once again provided a solid match up between these two men. While this encounter wasn’t as good (in my opinion) as their first, we once again saw excellent storytelling and very smart booking. With Shane once again walking away with a sneaky victory there is an argument to be made that the Miz was clearly the true winner after the ref’s decision to end the pinfall after Shane placed his foot on the bottom rope. This was a brilliant way to focus on that privilege angle that Shane has in anything he does within the WWE and the way the match was booked meant Miz didn’t lose momentum and Shane was able to push his character even more.

Cruiserweight Title Match on the Main Card

I have personally complained about the WWE cruiserweight division not being booked for main shows, however, last night at the MITB PPV we witnessed Tony Neese defend his Cruiserweight championship on the main card against Davri however, did the WWE get it wrong. Of course, this is a division that needs more exposer but with both men competing not exactly massively over with the fans nor the most popular of 205LIVE stars, there was a lack of interest from fans in attendance and it's clear the WWE got the wrong Cruiserweight Championship bout to take part on the main show.

Bayley in the Bank

As I mentioned in my prediction post, I was expecting Bayley to walk out as this year's Miss Money in the Bank and so I wasn’t surprised at all to see her do exactly that. Later on in the night, more of my personal predictions became a reality when Lynch successfully defended her RAW women’s championship but failed to keep hold of the Smackdown LIVE Women’s title dropping it to Charlotte Flair. Moments later Bayley saw her perfect moment cashing in on Charlotte and walking out your new Smackdown LIVE Women’s champ. Again, the booking decision didn’t come as a surprise, but I was delighted to see Bayley leave the PPV as champ and her win sets up excellent work in the coming weeks. The only issue I had was the fact we saw Alexa Bliss cash in on the same night she won it last year and so something did feel as though it was missing something.

 Dreams Do Come True

One of if not my personal favourite match of the entire night came from the Universal Championship bout between Seth Rollins and AJ Styles. Fans knew this was going to be an epic collision, the dream match was a contest fans had been waiting to witness for several years and watching the pair compete against one another really was something special. The WWE Universe were unsurprisingly not left disappointed as the lengthy encounter left fans in attendance and at home on the edge of their seats and completely hooked on the action. This was modern day wrestling at its finest and the showing of respect and level at which these two competed at was something very special and the match is sure to go down as one of the best of the year!

A Big Mistake or a Very Smart Move?

The main event to this years MITB PPV was pretty damn epic. The mixture of styles allowed this to be one of the best MITB ladder matches I’ve seen in a while. The likes of Andrade were true standouts and Baron Corbin also had an excellent showing. However, the final moments that saw Brock Lesnar surprise the world and enter himself into this match and walk out Mr Money in the Bank has truly divided opinion. This was a contest that opened much-needed doors of opportunity for the likes of Finn Balor, Andrade and McIntyre and choosing to give Lesnar the win was sure to piss off a few members of the WWE Universe. Now, this could either be a very smart decision or a huge mistake many of the roster members will suffer negatively from.

And that was this years MITB PPV. The night overall was strong with several standout matches sure to make the match of the year list. There were a few controversial decisions made that did divide opinion but with the quality of matches so strong it's difficult to dislike the PPV.
