Five Booking Decsions We Must See For Finn Balor on Smackdown LIVE
One of my personal favourite decisions made during the most
recent WWE Superstar Shakeup was Finn Balor’s move from Monday night RAW to
Smackdown LIVE, a transition I personally have wanted to see for a very long
time! A couple of weeks in and its clear Balor most certainly has a place on
the blue brand with plenty of creative options awaiting him; in today’s blog
post we are going to be exploring some of those potential booking decisions looking
at storyline’s, rivalries and matches the current IC champion must take part in
to ensure a career turn around takes place.

IC Championship Open Challenge
The WWE Smackdown LIVE roster is very much stacked! A mixture
of NXT graduates, veterans and young up and comers make for one epic roster consisting
of many dream matchups and current IC Champion, Finn Balor is a man fans want
to see booked in several of those must-see matches. Now, one of the most
important steps in turning things around for Balor is allowing him to show the
WWE Universe what he is capable of doing in the ring and giving him the chance
to show why he really is one of the best in the company today. Regular open
challenge contests will set up some of those dream collisions and if the WWE
ensure he defends his title against the likes of Mustafa, Andrade, and Buddy
Murphy, for example, it will mean we as fans will have the pleasure of seeing
some fantastic matches while Balor has the opportunity to really prove himself,
gain momentum and take part in standout matches.
The Viper vs The Demon
In all honesty, I do believe the WWE has a problem with
booking Randy Orton. In recent years its become clear that his storyline’s and rivalries
have been very repetitive and lacked diversity and that may be a slight issue
with booking him to collide with Finn Balor however, the Demon vs the Viper is
an angle I would honestly love to see and one that will benefit Balor massively!
We’ve seen Orton focus in on angles looking at his problem with former indie
stars as well as his diving deeper into his darker and more barbaric side, if
we mix those two together again this time with Orton setting his sights on the Intercontinental
championship, we could really get some great content. Now, I understand there
maybe too many similarities between this rivalry and Orton’s recent work with
AJ Styles but this is a very easy and effective way for Balor to gain momentum
and pick up a huge win over a major talent on the blue brand.
Balor Club
For literally years now I have wanted to see the WWE go
ahead completely with creating Balor club on the main roster and with the
former NXT champion now apart of Smackdown LIVE the same time as Anderson and
Gallows the WWE has one last chance to make this ideal situation a reality. We
know for a fact these three superstars have fantastic chemistry thanks to their
history and we also know this is an angle fan massively want to see booked!
The blue brand and the WWE as a whole is in desperate need of a faction and the
Balor Club could really kickstart something huge on the roster. Their alliance
means there are multiple potential storylines awaiting Balor and the Club and
it finally gives Anderson and Gallows to make the impact they should have done
years ago and finally head in the direction fans expected them to do so from
the moment they arrived in the WWE.
Turning Heel
Since the moment he arrived in the WWE Finn Balor has been
working as a very likeable babyface and during that time he has worked some
great rivalries and matches, however, his character work is most certainly becoming
a touch stale and repetitive and moving forward I strongly believe the WWE
should consider making some changes and exploring a heel Finn Balor. Anyone
aware of Balor’s work on the indie scene will most certainly be aware of the fact
Balor makes for one brilliant heel and if booked correctly the company could massively
turn things around by turning Finn heel and effectively making him one of if
not the biggest star on the blue brand. Pairing him with Anderson and Gallows
as we just touched on is yet another opening to this exact angle and allows him
to easily make the transition. The open challenges we mentioned at the start of
this post also gives Balor the bragging rights he will need and the typical “I’ve
defeated everyone on the roster” line.
Becoming WWE Champion
Whether it’s be as a heel or a babyface its important we see
Finn Balor become WWE Champion during his time on Smackdown LIVE. With Kofi
Kingston the current champion it’s clear that Balor becoming the WWE champion
at some point may not be as an easy of a task, however, if the WWE were to go down
the road of turning him heel it really does open many doors and allows some
brilliant work to take place. Seeing Balor Club vs the New Day, Balor and co attempt
to change the new image Kofi Kingston, his reign as champion and the New Day
have given Smackdown LIVE and eventually Balor dethroning Kingston all makes
for very entertaining viewing and something I know I most certainly could get
behind! Balor never had the chance to work a reign as Universal Champion due to
his injury and his absence really did affect his WWE career, moving to
Smackdown LIVE has given Balor a second chance to become a main event star and have
that dominant run as WWE champion we all know he can have.
Throughout his main roster WWE career, Finn Balor has been
through many ups and downs and the company have most certainly made their
mistakes, however, Balor’s popularity, star quality and skill means he is a
talent the company should be looking to push massively following the superstar
shake-up. The blue brand sets up multiple storylines and angles for Balor and
this truly is a second chance for the WWE to finally create a top main event
talent out of this former NXT Champion.
