IMPACT Wrestling Rebellion: The Best Bits
Anyone who has been following me for a while will know that
I have been massively interested in Impact Wrestling once again for over a year
now and this past Sunday’s Rebellion PPV reminded me of exactly why I have once
again become such a huge fan! The action-packed night was full of emotional moments,
excellent matches title changes and outstanding performances all round but what
were some of the very best bits of this rather underrated show? Let’s take a
look!
Ace Austin’s Impressive Win
The opening match of the night saw Ace Austin, Petey Williams,
Jake Crist, Aiden Prince, Cousin Jake, and Eddie Edwards compete in a six- pack
scramble and what an exciting way this was to kick start the night! Massively
action packed there wasn’t a dull moment to be seen and every single man competing
had a moment to shine. This was a tad bit on the predictable side with Ace Austin’s
win not surprising anyone but with action, this exciting and thrilling you
really cannot complain! Austin has been making a huge impact since his arrival on
the roster and throughout his booking, in recent weeks he has been made to look like
a true future champion a major talent to watch out for. This win added to his
momentum and the bout itself allowed him to showcase even more of his
incredible skill
Smart Intergender Wrestling
Intergender wrestling is something that really does continue
to divide fan opinion and its something I have touched on in the past and will
do more so in coming blog post. During the Impact Wrestling Rebellion PPV fans
witnessed intergender competition once again in the Impact Zone when Scarlett
Bordeaux faced off against Rohit Raju. Now, the match didn’t go down as a
highlight of the night but Bordeaux once again had an impressive showing the
story behind the encounter was enough for me personally to have a great level
of interest in the action. For weeks Scarlett has come face to face with sexist
comments from several male stars of the locker room and the storyline may have
been a touch controversial for some but in my personal opinion I thought this
was a great way to introduce a new and surprising side to Scarlett and it most certainly
fitted in with the theme of the night which really did leave so many feel as
though this was an old school attitude era style wrestling PPV.
Knockouts Championship
The knockouts really did have a fantastic night at the rebellion
PPV. With five women involved during the night, they all had a brilliant showing
with the knockout’s championship match being no different! Taya Valkyrie and
Jordynne Grace are two of the most powerful stars amongst the division and that
truly was on show here. This was a back and forth contest between two incredibly
strong, powerful and athletic women and I have to say I massively enjoyed what
I witnessed. Grace had arguably her best showing to date during her time in
Impact Wrestling and there really were so many close calls which left me and
everyone else believing a new champion was about to be crowned. Taya’s win didn’t
come as a surprise simply because it's clear there is more to come from her reign, however, Grace made for an excellent opponent who brought out so much in
Valkyrie, that being said, it was Jordynne for me who had the standout performance
for the two.
Modern Day Hardcore Wrestling
As a long time, fan of hardcore wrestling the one on one
contest between Rich Swann and Sami Callihan really did have my attention.
Callihan is of course very comfortable in hardcore competition and that was
evident throughout, however, what really did surprise me and so many others were
the barbaric and dark side to Rich Swann we saw during this matchup. Swann matched
the sinister and sadistic attitudes of Callihan perfectly to the point where he
became not only the winner of this bout but the standout. This was a completely
new side to Swann and his character but for me, this was one of the most entertaining
matches of the night and will go down as a career highlight for Swann and
another excellent showing from Callihan in a hardcore stipulation match up.
Era vs Era
In recent months we have seen a growing rivalry between Tessa
Blanchard and Gail Kim take place and it has had my attention massively! An all-time great in Gail Kim and one of the best in the world today in Tessa
Blanchard this truly was a dream match and was one of the encounters I was most
looking forward to on the night. The standards and the expectations for this
match were very high and the two women did not disappoint in the slightest. From
the get-go, this was a close encounter with back and fourth action with both
women showing just how fantastic women’s wrestling really is. This was a clash
of eras but with Gail and Blanchard being so evenly matched it would have been
impossible to tell Blanchard stands at only twenty-three years old. After a
lengthy contest (one that I could have seen go on for much longer) Tessa did
pick up the win but an emotional embrace between the two highlighted how much
this match meant to the newcomer while a passing of the torch moment really did
feel present. Blanchard had remained in such great character and played the
perfect heel throughout the breaking of character here was perfectly fitting.
Brian Cage Finally Wins the Big One
There really has been a lengthy rivalry going on between
Johnny Impact and Brian Cage and at this past Sunday’s Rebellion PPV fans tuned
in for what looked to be the final chapter in their heated and personal rivalry.
With Brian Cage challenging for the Impact world championship once again Johnny
believed he had the upper hand due to special guest referee Lance Storm in his corner
however, with the all-time great refusing to play things unfairly Impact had
the fight of his life on his hands and even when a change in referees took
place during the final minutes there really were no benefits made. Cage, however,
did take a huge beating throughout this contest thanks to Impacts allies
however, come the end of the bout Brian Cage finally walked out as Impact Champion.
A special and much deserving win, this was a great moment to watch and I have
to admit that I’m very excited to see what awaits Cage’s reign as champ.
Michael Elgin Arrives
Following his win against Johnny Impact, newly crowned
champion Brian Cage was welcomed by the presence of indie wrestling star Michael
Elgin who made a surprise appearance setting his sights on the Impact world
championship. Looking to be a sure future contender to Cage’s title this is a
showdown I’m most certainly excited to bear witness too and I’m sure this is a rivalry
between two huge powerhouses, we will be discussing in more detail very soon!
One Epic Main Event
Every single Collison between LAX and the Lucha Bro’s has
been fantastic! They have raised the bar each time and took part in bouts that
have gone down as some of the best tag team matches in recent years, taking the
standards to whole new levels. There most recent matchup at the Rebellion PPV
was the final chapter in their heated, intense, and personal rivalry and they sure
did end things on a high. Come the end of this match it was clear there was
nothing else left these two teams could have brought to the table. This was a
massively entertaining, high impact, brutal contest between two huge tag teams
on the wrestling scene today and I genuinely could not take my eyes off the
screen. It was very difficult to tell who would walk away with the win but
after such an epic performance there really wasn’t a feeling of either team being
anything but a winner.
Overall, I personally really enjoyed the Impact Wrestling Rebellion
PPV. The entire event gave off a feeling of an old school wrestling event with
brilliant wrestling taking place, hardcore bouts, intergender competition and excellent
storytelling. Impact Wrestling continues to impress me and after such a great
show this past Sunday there is every reason why you should be tuning in every
week also!
