5 Best Modern Day WWE Heels

Taking on the role of a heel can be a difficult job in the world of pro wrestling today. Many haven’t been able to have the true effect and remain working a consistently strong bad guy, however, there have been a select few in recent years that have pulled it off incredibly well. In today’s blog post we are going to be taking a look at some of the best heels of the past couple of years both on the WWE main roster and over in NXT.

Tommaso Ciampa

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge Tommaso Ciampa fan and when he made his return only a couple of years back sporting a new look and persona I became totally obsessed! After turning on his long-time partner and friend Johnny Gargano in one of the biggest and best heel turns in recent memory, Ciampa came back to action almost a year later taking part in some of the best work of his career! From his original entrance without music to the sadistic side of his new personality, Ciampa left fans completely hooked and genuinely despising him. He was a man who stuck to his word and took over the black and gold brand. The way he cradled the NXT championship, manipulated everyone in his path and was so dark, intense and clever with every move he executed Ciampa most certainly earned the right to be named one of the best heels in recent WWE memory.

Kevin Owens

While Kevin Owens is currently working a new role as a babyface (something completely different to what we have seen from him so far) fans must not forget just how good of a heel Kevin Owens makes. Throughout the first years of his time with the WWE Owens worked as one of the best and most convincing heels in the company. On his first night, fans witnessed him turn on long-time friend Sami Zayn kick-starting one of the most iconic rivalries in NXT history. Over on the main roster, Owens continued to rub everyone up the wrong way and later turning on Chris Jericho resulted in a true modern-day wrestling highlight.  Owens naturally makes for an excellent heel with his mic work adding so much depth to his character and storylines and while he is owning his new role there have been so many career highlights for the future Universal Champion in this role.

Sasha Banks

She may only just made her return and made her way back to the role of a heel but Sasha Banks has always been one heck of a heel! After originally attacking Paige and turning heel near the very start of her career Banks began to stand out and rise to the top. From her alliance with Summer Rae and Charlotte Flair Banks has always stood out for her attitude and potential to be the next best thing! Unfortunately, the WWE has spent a lot of time using Banks in the role of a babyface for far too long on the main roster but if recent weeks have proven anything its that the Boss has always been best suited was as a heel. From her facial expressions to her attitude and mannerisms, the Boss was born to be a heel.  From making a little girl cry to beating Becky Lynch with a steel chair, Sasha Banks has always raised the bar in terms of a heel in the women’s division and I cannot wait to see what the coming months await her.

Brock Lesnar

In terms of being one of the best legitimate heels Brock Lesnar really does top the least and is arguably the best heel we have seen in a very long time in the WWE. Now, the argument can be made that he isn’t the best heel we have seen in a while but instead, a talent fans are so bored and fed up of that the disliking is unrelated, however, Lesnar has chased after some of the top names and biggest babyfaces/likeable characters in the company today. He defended the universal championship against names both in the role of a heel and a babyface and it's that which makes him so great. Lesnar will literally step in the ring with any superstars, past, present, future, heel, face no matter what and with Heyman by his side, Lesnar really has become one of the most legit heels in WWE history.

The Miz

And concluding today’s blog post we have The Miz. Again, this is another superstar currently working as a babyface but has most certainly always made for one heck of a heel. The Miz is one of those talents simply born to be a heel! He shines the most in this role, his mic work has him down as one of the best speakers in the company today and his manipulative tactics have seen him highlighted as one of the best heels in the modern era. Convincing, entertaining and smart, The Miz makes for one of the most legit and exciting heels on the roster and very different from the names we have mentioned above. The way the Miz operates is very much different from everyone else we have spoken about today making him a special edition to this list.

There is of course, so many other names I could have included in this blog post but as always I would love to know what you guys think! Feel free to leave a comment below or tweet me over at @TezangiVictoria telling me who you would have included in today’s blog post.
