5 Potential Challengers For AJ Styles United States Championship

With AJ Styles continuing his reign as United States Champion there are many doors opening for an array of superstars on the roster! Fans have already seen Cedric Alexander rise to the challenge taking on the phenomenal one and despite an incredible and career highlighting collision on PPV Styles remains champion. When we look at future contenders there really is several great names who could so easily step up to the challenge but just who are the favourites to not only challenge Styles but possibly dethrone the face that runs the place?

Rey Mysterio

I haven’t personally been a big fan of what the WWE have been doing with Rey Mysterio since his return. Here they have a top talent, a true veteran and a superstar they could so much with so many of the stars on the roster, but they really haven’t been using him properly at all! With Styles as the US champion the company once again have a great opportunity to create something very special here! A collision between AJ and Rey is a dream match in itself with the pair sure to provide one heck of a must see match up. Dethroning Styles may seem unlikely at the moment, but the booking decision is huge for Rey and quite possibly the very best he will get for a long while!

Cesaro

In recent months Cesaro has been on a roll! While the WWE carry on ignoring the fact he deserves a major push the Swiss superstar has taken part in an array of brilliant matches including taking part in a one on one contest at the second ever NXT UK Takeover event. When we take a look at potential challengers for Styles is clear Cesaro makes for such a fitting opponent. Fans are sure to see an epic showdown between the two in a clash of very different styles. This kind of match would be a huge deal for Cesaro win or loss and even if he was to fall short here the shot at the title and the matches to come from their encounter would work in the favour of Cesaro massively.

Braun Strowman 

Things are pretty interesting for Braun Strowman at the moment. The past month he has won and lost the tag team titles and challenged for the Universal Championship and he once again is a major talking point on the RAW roster. He continues to prove he is a top talent more than worthy of being champion. Now, he may not get his hands on the universal title any time soon but challenging AJ Styles for the United States championship feels very promising indeed. The match between the two could so easily surprise many and actually standout as a brilliant contest! An angle involving Braun and a heel Styles could present some brilliant promos and amazing in ring spots. There is great storyline potential here and I don’t know about you but I would love to see Strowman as United States champion!

Chad Gable

A superstar that really has grown to become a fan favourite in recent weeks is Chad Gable. After his performance in the King of the Ring tournament the former NXT star has become a talent fans are massively pulling for and while a major monster push may not be awaiting him just yet his a name that should be thrown into the hat when discussing who could challenge Styles next. Yes, Gable is a Smackdown LIVE star as of right now but with the brand split in one big mess superstars are competing everywhere at the moment and a collision between AJ and Gable makes for something that could completely change the career of Gable while also seeing a truly awesome match up.

Finn Balor

I strongly believe that at some point we will see a great deal of work go down between Finn Balor and AJ Styles. Whether it be a one on one rivalry or an alliance, there most certainly is work to be seen between the two former Bullet Club members in the near future. With Styles as the United States champion many doors of opportunity have opened. There is room here for some excellent storytelling and a rivalry fans really want to see! The history between the two, the history between Balor and Anderson and Gallows makes this such a must-see angle not to mention the match of the year quality encounters we can expect to see. This is arguably the most promising challenger and the storyline for Styles we will discuss today and the creative doors this could open is very exciting!

With a returning Rusev and the roster forever growing AJ Styles is far from short of opponents and challengers for his United States championship but will any of the names above be next in line for a shot at the title and will any of the superstar’s we spoke about today go on to dethrone the phenomenal one?
