This Weeks RAW & Smackdown LIVE Highlights

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World, I hope you are all well and good and so far are having a brilliant week! So, it may be Valentines Day today but as a single woman, I'm doing all I can to avoid the topic and so lets jump right into today's blog post. Reaching the middle point of the week does mean it's time to take a look back at the past couple of days in the world of pro wrestling in my weekly edition of RAW and Smackdown LIVE Highlights. I mentioned that last Wednesday I didn't upload this post because I was trying out something new and wanted to shake things up a little here on my blog and that is something that went down well and something I'm going to be doing more often. Every other week or so I will be skipping my RAW and Smackdown LIVE highlights and writing about those episodes in the weeks Last week in wrestling post and instead of uploading a top five or a booking post or something non-WWE related to shake things up and change the content a little!  The RAW and Smackdown LIVE episodes this week really did focus around the up and coming Elimination Chamber and Fastlane pay per views as well as building and focusing on Wrestlemania so we have a lot to touch on! As always, any recent blog posts will be linked bellow including last Friday's blog post! Finally, you can get involved and tell me what you thought of both this week's RAW and Smackdown LIVE highlights by leaving a comment bellow or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.

RAW

Ronda Rousey's next WWE Appearance announced

It was back at the historic two thousand and eighteen Royal Rumble pay per view that fans were left amazed following Ronda Rousey's surprise WWE debut. Stealing the spotlight from Asuka after the former NXT Women's champion made history again winning the first ever Women's Royal Rumble, Rousey broke the internet and since that night we have all been sitting back waiting for her to make another appearance for the WWE. It has been made public news that Rousey has signed a full-time contract with the company and once done filming for an up and coming move she will be working more shows. On this weeks episode of Monday night, RAW Kurt Angle announced that Rousey's next WWE appearance will be at the Elimination Chamber where she will sign her RAW contract. Now, I've always known that Rousey would head to RAW however, she is a face the Smackdown LIVE division seriously needs and I do believe it would have been a better idea to have her as a free agent. Despite that, however, I am really looking forward to seeing her back on my screen and back inside a WWE ring in two weeks time and on the night we should get a far better idea as to what her role at Mania will be!

The first ever Seven man Elimination Chamber

As announced last week, this week's RAW main event would see a final chance men's Elimination chamber qualifying match takes place between the four men who failed to score victories in their singles bouts over the past few weeks. Finn Balor, Matt Hardy, Apollo Crews, and Bray Wyatt were all set to challenge for the final spot in the chamber match however, a segment earlier on in the night between general manager Kurt Angle and Seth Rollins led to Rollins being added to this match, making the main event a fatal five-way. Now, while I love Rollins and it is true he isn't currently involved in anything it just felt a little wrong that these four other men had competed already for a chance and Rollins was given this last chance match without really building any momentum before. Saying that the main event as expected was brilliant and I will be talking about it in an up and coming Match Recommendations post so keep an eye out for that!  Now, the match did end in controversy after both Rollins and Balor pinned Matt Hardy making both of them the winners of the contest. I don't really understand how it was even possible for the referee to make that mistake but the booking decision was unique was to involve both men in the Chamber and shake things up. It has been announced that both Rollins and Balor will be competing in this year's Elimination Chamber making this the first ever seven-man elimination chamber match.

This week on RAW

All in all I actually really enjoyed this weeks episode of Monday night RAW. I felt as though we got a few really strong matches that I enjoyed a heck of a lot. The standout match for me was Sasha Banks vs Bayley followed up by the main event. The women's division was once again shown greatly with at least three segments for a second week in a row as well as a brilliant video package on Asuka. Another highlight moment was the segment between Elias and Braun Strowman which was a brilliant follow up from the closing moments of last weeks episode of RAW where Elias pinned Cena in order to earn the the last entrant spot int he chamber which to be fair he wouldn't have done so without the assistance of Braun. The opening match of the night also saw John Cena and the Miz go one on one in a solid contest that saw Cena pick up the victory meaning the Miz will be the first entrant in the Chamber. Sensible and the correct booking decision here with little to complain about.

Smackdown LIVE

Things Heat up in US Championship picture

I've mentioned quite a bit over on twitter and here on my blog that I haven't really been enjoying Smackdown LIVE recently. It has seen downfall since the superstar shakeup last year in my personal opinion and I am finding it difficult to enjoy and get behind the stories the brand is showing. However, this weeks episode really did standout for me in terms of what we saw from certain  division. The US Championship is something that has had it's highs and lows over the past year but Roode as the title holder has been one of the best decisions the WWE has made and while there is still plenty more to see from his reign and Roode as a WWE superstar on the roster things are heating up here with both Jinder Mahal and Randy Orton setting their sights on the title. These are two perfect superstars to put in the picture. Instead of pushing Jinder right back down the ladder, having him chase after the US title is perfect, even if he doesn't win. It gives him something to work with that best suits how the fans see him and where he is a talent. As for Orton he too is the perfect man for this role. In all honesty, I haven't enjoyed anything Orton has done for a while and superstar like him in the United States championship picture benefits both him and the title greatly!

Fatal Five Way

Okay, so while I enjoyed the match between Baron Corbin and Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn and Dolph Ziggler as well as the segments between them all (and the opening) I still haven't jumped on board with what is seeing from the WWE Championship picture. After Corbin and Ziggler picked up victories over Owens and Zayn both superstars have been added to the WWE Championship match at the Fastlane pay per view making the match a now fatal five-way. Again, this match has a true mixture of talents and has every bit of potential to be an epic matchup but I just don't like or enjoy the story. The wrestling is fantastic and these are some of the top stars in the WWE getting the spotlight they deserve, however, once this match is over with where does that leave talent like Ziggler and Corbin who really have been thrown into this story that centers around Owens, Zayn, Daniel Bryan, and Shane McMahon. The next few weeks will be interesting and as we get closer to Fastlane it should even more interesting seeing how these stars are booked!

This week on Smackdown LIVE

It was a pretty decent show this week. I did personally enjoy RAW more this time around but there was plenty to enjoy from the blue brand. The main event was very strong and the collision between Corbin and Owens made for a great match up too. I also liked the work from the tag team division. I would have booked Gable and Benjamin to win over the New Day to boost their momentum which of course is something they really need but the new direction the WWE is going with them is really cool and I do have an interest in that! They just need to be booked far far better!
