Last Week in Wrestling

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling World I hope you are all well and good and have had a brilliant weekend fresh and ready for the week ahead. Okay, so it's Monday, one of my favorite days of the week for the sheer reason it always feels like a fresh start, however, I am already missing the weekend! As you all know by now, every single Monday I take a look back at the past seven days in the world of pro wrestling in my Last Week in Wrestling post. It's one of my personal favourite weekly posts to write here mainly because it gives me a chance to talk about everything that has been happening in detail and of course I also get to recap and discuss some of the action that has been taking place outside of the WWE. This week we have plenty to talk about including Elimination Chamber and Fastlane updates as well as a look at Impact, Defiant Wrestling, and Dolph Ziggler's contract. This Friday I will also be uploading my two thousand and eighteen Elimination Chamber predictions and over the weekend I will as always be live tweeting throughout the pay per view on Sunday and instead of a last week in wrestling post on Monday, I will be uploading my highlights post for the Elimination Chamber. As always, any recent blog posts will be linked bellow and you can get involved and tell me what you thought of last week in wrestling by leaving a comment bellow or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.

Mixed Match Challenge Results & Pay Per View Updates

As you guys already know from previous blog posts, the WWE Mixed Match challenge is something I really have been enjoying. I can honestly say I have enjoyed every single episode and in actual fact, there have well and truly been a few fantastic bouts I will be discussing in more and up and coming Match Recommendations. Last weeks episode saw RAW's Bayley and Elias take on the husband and wife duo consisting of Lana and Rusev. The match was the weakest of the bunch so far, however, the moment you put Rusev on my screen, believe me, I'm going to have an interest. While the match and the wrestling were pretty damn weak the match did see Lana pick up her first WWE victory after four years. Pinning the former RAW women's Champion, Bayley, Lana, and Rusev secured their spot in the next round of the tournament. I will be discussing the first round and giving you my in-depth thoughts on the mixed match challenge in an up and coming blog post! Don't forget to see Nia Jax and Apollo Crews take on the team of Charlotte and Bobby Roode this coming Tuesday after Smackdown LIVE.

This week's episodes of RAW and Smackdown LIVE really did focus on the up and coming pay per views. Over on RAW, Seth Rollins and Finn Balor were added to the twenty eighteen Elimination Chamber match, making this the first ever seven-man Elimination Chamber match. The decision came about after both Rollins and Balor made the cover in this weeks fatal five-way main event set out to determine the last competitor in Chamber. I mentioned it in last weeks RAW and Smackdown LIVE highlights but I'm not the biggest fan of this move. I understand that there really is nothing else for Rollins right now and he's in a bad spot heading into Mania not to mention that he will make for an excellent addition to this match but it is a little odd and I'm not entirely sure that in kayfabe this makes plenty of sense. Saying that this Chamber match has all the tools to be one of the best of all time and I can truly say that I am really looking forward to this match. A similar thing can be said over on the blue brand. After plans where changed and Ziggler and Corbin went on to face Owens and Zayn in singles matches instead of each other, the result saw Ziggler and Corbin score wins in this singles match making the WWE Championship match at Fastlane next month a Fatal Five way. Again, this does have all the ingredients for a brilliant contest however it's just all far too messy. Corbin and Ziggler both are in need of something that gives them... well something and this isn't it.Neither will leave the winner and one is more than likely to be the man booked to take the pin and it does no good for either. A triple threat was pushing it enough and I've mentioned plenty of times already I'm not a fan of what is going on in the main event picture over on Smackdown LIVE. There is of course time for the build of this match to change my mind and don't get me wrong, we have room for some brilliant and interesting little twists and stories to be told in the match but as of now, I'm not the biggest fan of the decision.

Dolph Ziggler's New Contract

Last month at the Royal Rumble pay per view Dolph Ziggler made his return to action after several weeks away from the ring. Upon leaving his newly won United States championship in the middle of the ring question flew left, right and center in regards to the future of the former World Champion. It's been evident for several years now that Ziggler could be coming to the end of his WWE run with many claiming Ziggler would not be signing another contract with the company and in all honesty if that was the case I doubt anyone would have been surprised considering the past few years have been incredibly week for Dolph. However, returning at the Rumble proved is indeed sticking around for a little longer, however, the terms of his new contract are rather interesting. A long-term deal it has been reported from several sources that Ziggler has become one of the highest paid WWE superstars behind the likes of John Cena and Brock Lesnar. Some of the contract deals include Ziggler being able to leave the arena after he has wrestled as well as being able to get involved in projects outside the WWE as long as it doesn't interfere with the WWE schedule. These are very interesting but unsurprising elements to Ziggler's contract and so far things have been going pretty well for the newly returned star.

We also recently learned that the Miz has signed a four year deal with the WWE which was, of course, to be expected while we also learned that Rich Swann has parted ways with the WWE which again came as no surprise following the recent headlines.

Co-Branded PPVS

Over the course of the weekend, it was revealed that all future WWE pay per views after Wrestlemania will be co-branded meaning talent from both shows will be featured on one pay per view a month. I honestly do have mixed opinions on this, however, the more I think about it the more I actually disagree with the whole idea. Okay, so for the past two years we have been bombarded with plenty of pay per views and its draining at times yet but it allows talent from both shows to really be showcased and I do worry that a lot of mid-card talent will suffer here. Sure, the shows are likely to be considerably longer however, it's clear that in the long run a lot of talent will suffer especially over on Smackdown LIVE. It puts pressure on both the tag team and Women's division as well as the cruiserweights and of course the mid-card talent. This is something that we will be able to talk about in more detail once we get the first few shows over with and in the coming weeks I will be talking about this more in a separate blog post.

Outside the WWE

Zack Saber Jr. Relinquishes the Internet Championship & LIVE PPV

This past week has been yet another solid one for the world of British Wrestling. We found out in the middle of the week that the defiant wrestling Internet Championship. After winning the title back in August of last year defeating Gabriel Kidd the former CWC Competitor has dropped the title and a match to determine will be determined soon with the title being a focal point in tonight's recording for the show.
This past weekend also saw Defiant Wrestling host a LIVE PPV and a review of that show will be uploaded soon!

Rey Mysterio Signing a Part-time contract?

While he is set to make his NJPW debut taking on the legend that is Jushin Thunder Liger it has been reported that following his surprise Royal Rumble entrance a few weeks back at the very pay per view he could be signing a part-time contract with the company and the news comes as no surprise. His shock return in January went down a huge hit with fans and it's evident that his presence is something the company and both Smackdown LIVE or the Cruiserweight division could really gain from!
