The Last Seven Days in Wrestling

What a week it has been in the world of pro wrestling! We kick started with one of the best NXT Takeover events of all time last Saturday and under twenty-four hours later the two thousand and eighteen Money in the Bank pay per view took place and to the surprise of many was a pretty damn decent show. From that point onwards we have seen several huge announcements, returns, and big updates regarding the future of the UK Division along with the reveal of the 2K19 video game! In today's blog post we are going to be taking a look at the biggest headlines in the world of pro wrestling over the last seven days! I'm looking to make this a regular feature here on my blog so let me know what you think! As always, any recent blog post will be linked below including all of my Money in the Bank and NXT reviews! You can also get involved and tell me what you have thought of this week in pro wrestling by leaving a comment below or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.

A Phenomenal Cover

This past Monday 2K revealed the cover the WWE 2K19 video game and gracing taking the honor this year was the current WWE Champion, the phenomenal AJ Styles. With the release date edging closer, the video game publishers revealed more details regarding the game on Monday alongside the cover reveal which didn't come as a great surprise. Styles has been on a roll since his arrival in the WWE and after successfully retaining his WWE Championship this past Sunday the phenomenal one is remaining firmly at the top spot; it's no surprise 2K have chosen Styles as this years game cover star. Joining the likes of the Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Sting, and Seth Rollins, this another milestone momentum in the career of AJ Styles and you've just got to be happy for him! More details on the game are set to be released in the coming months which I will be covering here on my blog!

WWE UK Series to Launch

Monday really was jam-packed full of exciting announcements but a personal favourite of mine came in regards to the WWE UK division. With the Finals of the second WWE United Kingdom champion tournament taking place this week at the Royal Albert Hall, Triple H and co made several big announcements on Monday night which set the Wrestling world on fire! It's been rumored that more content would be coming to the network focusing around the UK division and as we found out on Monday, over the coming months we will be seeing much more of the British talent in the WWE. Kickstarting in July, a brand new series will start in the United Kingdom which will see two new championships introduced; the WWE UK women's champion and the WWE Tag Team Championships. The series will include the best talent the United Kingdom and Ireland have to offer and tickets will go on sale Jun 29th. The new titles will be on the line at the following dates as reported by the WWE.

  • Saturday, July 28, and Sunday, July 29, at the Corn Exchange, Cambridge
  • Saturday, Aug. 25, and Sunday, Aug. 26, as part of Insomnia, the U.K.’s biggest gaming festival, at NEC Birmingham
  • Saturday, Oct. 13, and Sunday, Oct. 14, at Plymouth Pavilions
  • Saturday, Nov. 24, and Sunday, Nov. 25, at Liverpool Olympia
I will, of course, be creating content around this series and have plenty of blog posts and articles taking a look at the WWE UK division and the series coming up!

New NXT Tag Team Champions Crowned

This past Wednesday I uploaded a spoilers post looking at the WWE United Kingdom Championship (don't worry, I don't and won't be revealing who walked out as the United Kingdom Champion until next week) and in that post we took a look at one of the biggest surprises of the year so far as Tyler Bate and Trent Seven aka Moustache Mountain defeated the Undisputed era to be crowned the new NXT Tag Team Champions. I have gone into much more detail over in my previous blog post and so that will, of course, be linked below but here is a little snippet of what I discussed on Wednesday regarding this huge victory! (The titles, however, did return to the Undisputed Era following a re-match at a recent NXT recording)

"Challenging the Undisputed Era for the NXT Tag team championships fans were expecting a damn good match but not many believed we would actually witness a title change but in a shocking twist Tyler Bate and Trent Seven scored their biggest victory as a team and now find themselves as the new NXT Tag team Champions. Going back to the first point we made, this is a very clear indication of where the WWE is going with the UK division. We know for a fact the two rosters will work together but what this victory has done is let the fans know the talent here in the "

Returns, Debuts, and Goodbyes

It has very clearly been a long and eventful week in the world of professional wrestling. On Sunday fans were left completely hooked in entertained by the two thousand and eighteen Money in the Bank pay per view (a link to my reviews for that show will also be listed below) but the WWE universe was also left shocked by an interesting return during the Smackdown LIVE Women's Championship match. Now, as I touched on in my review, I actually did enjoy the contest between Carmella and Asuka and felt Mella really did prove a point and showcase some improvements and I was totally fine with her retaining the title despite not many feeling the same way. The decision to bring back James Ellsworth to assist Carmella in her victory this past Sunday didn't' come as a major surprise to me personally. Rumors had been surfacing weeks ahead of the pay per view regarding his possible return and while I'm not a big fan of Ellsworth at all, he does add more heat to Carmella and they do work well together. In saying that, I felt as though what we saw on Sunday was done well and I don't have much to complain about.

We then had Tuesday role around and there was a lot going on! Staying on a positive note we did see former NXT Tag Team Champions Sanity make their debut for Smackdown LIVE. This has been very long awaited. Fans have been waiting to see the insane tag-team arrive on the main roster for a over a month and after a dominant debut things are looking very interesting and promising for the rising team! Now, its time to flip the switch and take a look at a few surprise release that most certainly got the WWE Universe talking. We first learned that the WWE had come to terms with the release of Big Cass which considering he competed in one of the matches of his career this past Sunday against Daniel Bryan it did surprise me. There hasn't been a great amount of detail regarding the release of Cass but this is definitely something we will be talking in the weeks to come. It has been noted that it doesn't seem as though Cass has been fired for just one reason. There have been previous reports of issues with Cass and the former NXT star going against instruction and being intoxicated during the Europian tour amongst several problems including rumors of backstage confrontations with ex-girlfriend and current Smackdown LIVE Women's Champion, Carmella. We also learned that Dana Brooke has also parted ways with the company which in all honesty doesn't surprise me as much.

Sami Zayn Injured

We also learned this week that Sami Zayn has suffered another injury and will be out of action until twenty nineteen. This is a real shame and I do honestly really feel for Zayn but I'm confident the former NXT Champion will be back stronger than ever and plenty of great things will be waiting for him. We also know that Charlotte has undergone surgy related to a breast implant and Oney Lorcan is said to have suffered an injury during his tag team match at NXT Takeover Chicago.

RIP Vader

On Wednesday it was announced that former WWF star Leon White otherwise known as Vader has passed away at the age of sixty-three. White was diagnosed with severe pneumonia last month. Throughout the week former and current WWE Superstars as well as the wrestling community as a whole have been paying their respects, honoring, and celebrating the life of an all-time great and WWE legend. If you would be interested in a blog post looking back at some of Vader's best matches and moments do let me know!

And that was the last seven days in pro wrestling! As always, any recent blog posts will be linked below and you can get involved and tell me what you thought of last week in wrestling by leaving a comment below or by tweeting me over at @TezangiVictoria.
