Top Five WWE RAW Moments of the Week

From the beginning of time I have sat here every Wednesday or Thursday and reviewed the weeks episodes of WWE Monday Night RAW and Smackdown LIVE and as long-time readers will know, those are some of my favourite posts to write, however, as many of you would have also picked up on recently is how much I’m trying to change things up a little here and so today I thought I would introduce something a little different. When I first started blogging I did write separate reviews for RAW and Smackdown LIVE and after a while I put them together to save time and talk about the most important and biggest parts of both shows, however, this week’s RAW left me with so much I wanted to talk about that I thought I would do just that and write a separate highlights post. Looking back at the top five WWE RAW moments of the week hopefully, we can start to change more up here on my blog and introduce new content by looking at each brand more specifically! For now, however, let's not waste any more time and jump right into things!

Monday Night Rollins

He may no longer stand as the Intercontinental Champion, but Seth Rollins really does remain at the top of the RAW roster. By far the most consistent star on Monday nights, Rollins stepped out in this week’s RAW main event to challenge new champion Dolph Ziggler in a rematch for the IC title. Going at it for over thirty minutes the two raised the bar yet again and Rollins worked another must-see contest that only further cemented him as one of the best on the scene today. Rumored to have an even bigger push waiting around the corner and the result of this match reflecting on his relationship with Roman Reigns one can only expect to see greater things coming up for the architect.

The Best Booked Angle of the Week?

This week’s episode of Monday night was in fact damn decent and I found myself genuinely entertained with plenty presented to us, however, it was the work we saw go down between Kevin Owens and Braun Strowman that for me tops it all.  Fantastic chemistry I was left laughing at the car park segment that involved Owens running from Strowman to only find him later in the car park seconds after the Monster Among Men had destroyed Owens’ vehicle. The whole thing was done so well and In such entertaining fashion and it’s brilliant seeing two big stars booked and used exactly how they should be! I also want to mention that the tag team matches the pair were involved in was yet another highlight of the night for me. The match decent and the growing feud between Baron Corbin and Finn Balor is one with good potential. This too was another entertaining part of the night and my favorite booking of the show also.

Too Little, Too late?

The rivalry between Sasha Banks and Bayley has been an odd one. It’s something fans have wanted to see from the moment the two both found themselves on Monday night RAW together following what we had seen from them during their time in NXT but there really is no denying that it just hasn’t worked. The roles the two have played just hasn’t made any sense and fans have been left confused when it comes to who exactly is the heel and who is the face. Banks, of course, is a natural bad guy, but she hasn’t been pushed to the level we saw from her down in NXT and on this week’s episode of RAW Bayley’s attack on Banks following their tag team match just left many confused even more. Now, there Is time to turn things around here and I don’t doubt they can work the match of the night at Summer Slam but as of right now its clear plenty of work needs to be done!

Comedy Gold

Okay, so Curtis Axle and Bo Dallas may not find themselves in the main event of Monday night RAW any time soon or even as tag team champions but their growing rivalry with Bray Watt and Matt Hardy has been excellent. We haven’t seen phenomenal in-ring work or must-see matches but the sheer comedy effect Axle and Dallas are bringing to the table has been excellent. There is an argument that suggests mocking Wyatt and Hardy damages the pair and puts the tag team champions in a difficult position that sees their characters negatively affected but the mocking segment genuinely had me laughing at my TV screen and it must be said that really is great seeing Bo and Curtis on such a high and used well.

It’s All Starting to Fall into Place

Anyone that has been reading my blog and paying attention to the RAW and Smackdown LIVE reviews uploaded here will know that I have not been impressed with how Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre have been used/booked since their arrival back to the WWE main Roster. I haven’t been a fan of Drew alliance with Dolph Ziggler and everything we have seen from Lashley has left me annoyed and disappointed, however, this week things really did turn around. Lashley was apart of the opening segment where he came face to face with Roman Reigns and while Reigns may not be the fan favorite he is pushed as a major star and a top name mentioned to possibly challenge Lesnar next and so the segment was a big deal. The tag team match that followed was pretty much pointless but the first ten minutes of the show at least, was exactly what Lashley needed and he now finds himself much deeper in the conversation regarding Brock Lesnar and the Universal Championship, putting across an excellent argument for his case.

And then we had Drew McIntyre who while wasn’t apart of a match this week played a vital role in the closing moments of this week’s main event which effectively saw Dolph Ziggler retain the Intercontinental Championship. We saw him later come to blows with Roman Reigns and he too was given the spotlight he needed. We can begin to see the alliance between Ziggler and McIntyre work far more and win over fans thanks to the signs of potential and better booking and we can also now see the doors open in terms of where Drew McIntyre Can go next and that next step is looking much bigger and brighter!
