Who Will Dethrone The Beast?

Brock Lesnar has been one of if not the most dominant champion in WWE history. His recent title run has seen collisions with the likes of Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns, and Braun Strowman, all of which have seen the beast retain his Universal Championship. As we approach the Summer Season however and the second biggest pay per view of the year rolls around we once again touch on the subject regarding who should dethrone Brock Lesnar and effectively become the new Universal Champion. Many names have been put forward by fans but let's take a look at five picks who may or may not surprise you.
Finn Balor has been one of the biggest names mentioned whenever anyone has spoken about the Universal Championship. Crowned as the inaugural champ back in twenty fifteen Balor hasn’t been able to reclaim the title since his injury which saw forced to relinquish the title. He's always been focused on getting back the gold (or in this case red) that he never lost but road bumps have appeared, and he’s struggled to get his hands on a one on one bout for the title. The former NXT Champion is set to compete in this year's Money in The Bank and with a rough year behind him, many have their fingers crossed for the Irish star to walk out the victor edging closer to a title shot and more importantly a title run. Its argued he is most in need of the victory at this pay per view considering he hasn’t been involved in a solid program worthy of main eventing RAW for quite some time. In terms of dethroning Lesnar, Balor isn’t a talent who technically needs the Money in the Bank briefcase. He has a solid argument that should get him a shot at any given date. Balor never truly lost that championship but how ironic and poetic would it be if Finn could get that one on one shot against

Lesnar at Summer Slam and get back what he never lost.
It’s a controversial pick but let’s be honest, Roman Reigns remains is a legit contender whenever we are talking about the next Universal Champion. He, of course, is still a company favourite, still a big-time attraction, and still the guy. He may have recently lost a series of singles match against the champ however, it would surprise no hardcore fan to not only see Reigns given another title shot but this time to walk out as the new champion. The WWE remain keen on pushing Reigns as their top star and so having him dethrone the beast and take home the Universal title isn’t a crazy thought to have. In an ideal world, I would love to see a big twist take place right at the end of this match; this means considering The Authors of Pain assisting Reigns in the win resulting in some kind of double turn or even an ending involving Paul Heyman and a big shock…

While currently the Intercontinental champion, Seth Rollins is one of the biggest rumored named to in fact dethrone Lesnar at this year’s Summer Slam pay per view and while apart of me is surprised let’s be honest, it does make sense. There is history between Rollins and Lesnar and unfinished business that means a title match between the two can work so easily. What this also does is set up another future Shield triple threat that could headline next years Wrestlemania PPV. Rollins is a very skilled in-ring performer who while much smaller in weight to Lesnar has the potential to have more agility, passion, and drive to last in a longer bout. He could easily outsmart the beast and who’s to say that some assistance from Reigns leading to Rollins getting the win wouldn’t make for an interesting ending only to then see Roman turn on his former partner after all everyone wants their hands on the Universal Championship, right? We’ve seen the relationship between Rollins and Reigns emphasized once again and whenever we do see this now fans straight away are reminded of that initial turn and await a part two.

Since returning to the WWE Bobby Lashley has been the man so many have wanted to see dethrone the beast. The pair has identical careers to match their identical physics and a collision between them is one I and so many other fans want to see. Okay, so Lashley hasn’t technically been given the big monster push members of the WWE universe expected to see however, there is time for things to turn around before Summer Slam. The jump from a match against Sami Zayn to facing Brock Lesnar for gold is a big step but a talent like Lashley can take on that role. He’s faster, stronger, more experienced and a far more legitimate threat to the beast than many of his pears. His confidence and story make him out to be an excellent contender and his victory over Lesnar would secure a brand-new beast in the WWE and anew threat on Monday night RAW, however, this time the face will be a consistent one on screen.

And to conclude we have Braun Strowman. This one is not a surprise pick. Strowman has been the uncrowned champion for around a year now with so many of the WWE universe believing he should have been given the title months ago. Not only is a big-time powerhouse with the ability to pull off fantastic matches but he is in a position that sees him as one of the most over stars of Monday night RAW. He is forever bringing something new and different to the table and showing the world why he should be at the top. This is the man who walks and acts like a champion, is booked like a champion so why does not have the title on his shoulder? Of course, he has already collided with Lesnar and so making sense of another bout and why this one is different in terms of the end result may not be as simple of a task but with the momentum so high and the history, there-there is a big argument for the monster among men.

And those are just five names we have touched on today! While he makes for an interesting and dominant champion a change is desperately wanted amongst a great deal of fans and when the topic of who should dethrone the beast appears so do many many names!
