Five Of the Best Characters in British Wrestling Today

Having a captivating, entertaining and unique character in the world of professional wrestling is extremely important! Some would argue more important than actual wrestling ability. While you can pretty much teach anyone how to move around the ring, charisma is something you cannot teach and is something you either have or don't have. Throughout the years we have seen some brilliant and some not so brilliant characters across the wrestling world and over here on the British scene, we have produced some fantastic stars. In today's blog post as part of British wrestling season, I'm counting down five of the best characters in British wrestling today. This is a post I have been super excited to sit down and write! When I was planning this season this was one of the first ideas I had and it was actually inspired by a man we are going to be talking about a lot in today's blog post and across British Wrestling season, Martin Kirby. Keep in mind that you would have probably have heard me talk about some of the names mentioned in today's list a lot recently here on my blog but in this particular post, they really deserve the attention. Now, there is of course so much left of this seasons so make sure to keep tuned in and you, of course, can have your say and let me know what you're favourite character on the British Wrestling season is by leaving a comment bellow or by dropping me a tweet at @TezangiVictoria. Note that I will be writing a series of posts during the build-up of the Royal Rumble pay per view. Finally, as usual, any recent blog posts will be linked bellow at the end!

Moustache Mountain
Kick starting today's blog post is a duo you have already seen me talk about plenty of times throughout British Wrestling season and a heck of a lot over on twitter, one of my favourite tag teams in all of pro wrestling, Moustache Mountain. Now, if you have been tuning in throughout all of British Wrestling season here on my blog you would have seen already that I am a big big fan of these two. Both Trent Seven and Tyler Bate have been mentioned several times on my blog and over on my social media and to be honest, who can blame me? If you have been paying attention to the British Wrestling scene over the past few months you most certainly would have come across these two talents. The pair has been dominating the tag team division here in the UK and while their fantastic wrestling ability plays a huge huge part in that their character is what initially grabbed my attention. They have such a traditional look and character yet so unique and current at the same time. They do remind you a lot of other characters such as Jack Gallagher and the Vaudevillians but they have their own little twist on things that I just love! The first time I actually saw them in action together as a tag team was when they debuted for WCPW, prior to this I had seen plenty of Sevens' work but I had never really seen much of Bate and after watching him so much over the past few months I have to say that I absolutely love him. I have already  spoken in great detail about Tyler so I won't go into a big chit chat session on him but what I will say is both these men are for sure worth the hype and I definitely do believe that if you haven't heard of these two amazing athletes. Their entrance alone has me completely hooked by them with the pair taking more than enough time literally shake the hand of every fan in the front row and then throughout their matches they remain completely in character. They are two of the most entertaining men on the scene today with crowd interactions and interactions with the referee's the pair are simply fantastic to watch catering to all audiences around the world. It doesn't matter what age you are, whether you're male or female, or how long you have been a wrestling fan for these guys will leave you thoroughly entertained and their wrestling skills will have you wanting more and more of them.

Marty Scrull
Up next we have the man pictured above, Marty Scrull, again I have spoken about Marty a fair bit over the years the on my blog. I know I haven't written much content about the British Wrestling scene but when I have I think I've pretty much always managed to fit him into the article. He is easily one of the most recognisable faces on the British Wrestling scene and I'm confident most of you if not all of you reading this would have heard of him and seen his work before without a doubt. Over the years he has competed in some of the best promotions around the world including TNA and ROH along with working in Japan. He was one of the first men I was obsessed with when I got back into watching work from the British Wrestling scene and his fantastic character was one of the things that grabbed my attention straight away. I know I'm going to say this about pretty much everyone I talk about in today's blog post but he has such a unique character. There's no one like him on the scene doing what he's doing and doing it so well. The Villian character is something at first I just didn't think I was going to like. I had seen Marty's work outside of this character and so I've always known how much of a brilliant in-ring talent he is but over time I really did grow to love this character and what it's all about. As someone with the creative mind I have in my head I was thinking up so many amazing storylines I would love to see him take part in one day. Throughout his matches he manages to work that villain character perfectly, playing along to the crowd's negative reaction while also adding a little bit of comedy in there that I genuinely do like. This is easily a character that could be overdone so easily but he works it so well and genuinely has me entertained during every single one of his matches. With him being so well travelled you can see in his performances what he has picked up throughout his career and as he continues to travel around the world he continues to impress and entertain a variety of different audiences all around the globe.

Martin Kirby
One of the main inspirations behind this blog post was without a shadow of a doubt, Martin Kirby. I will be honest and say that before tuning into WCPW I hadn't seen much of Kirby's work. I had heard of him and seen little snippets but nowhere near what I have been able to see of him recently. When I first watched him compete properly during his first appearance for WCPW I honestly wasn't sure what to think. Don't get me wrong I found him amazingly funny and great to watch but I wasn't completely sure I got the character and was on board. However, the more I did get to see of him the more I became a fan and really did enjoy what I was seeing. Unliike most of the other men I will be talking about in today's blog post Martin Kirby is far from this over the top, theatrical character with a crazy entrance and a big backstory. He's simply a very very funny and relatable man but it's what he does with the character that makes him such a standout and important part of British Wrestling today. You could pass Kirby in the street and see him as just another basic man but he's wrestling ability is just fantastic and over the past few months he has been apart of some of my favouite matches both in and outside of the British Wrestling scene. A huge part of why these matches have gone down so well come from his amazing charisma. Whenever Martin Kirby is on my screen I know I'm in for something good. I know I'm going to laugh, I know I'm going to get some brilliant wrestling, and I know I'm going to be completely entertained. Seeing how far he has come in such a short amount of time from when he debuted for WCPW to where he is now is just crazy. He went from being the guy the crowd wasn't really into at all to being one of the most over men in the company. Now, he is a man that caters to the older audiences but to be honest that just contributes to why I love him and his work so much.

Mikey Whiplash
The next entry will come as no surprise to anyone who has either been reading my blog posts for long enough or simply has been a fan of the British Wrestling scene for a decent amount of time. Mikey Whiplash is without a doubt one of the most recognisable faces on the British wrestling scene. A true veteran, Whiplash has been wrestling for well over fifteen years and has managed to find himself working for some of the best promotions here in the United Kingdom. I first discovered Whiplash in ICW. I've always been such a big big fan of Insane Championship wrestling as some of you will know all too well and throughout this season here on my blog you will see mention this promotion plenty of times! The home of some the most outrageous and crazy characters, ICW has become one of my favourite shows to tune into and Whiplash has pretty much always been one of the main reasons I go back. He was the first talent that I genuinely was hooked on when I began watching ICW and throughout the years he has remained one of my favourite professional wrestlers and easily one of my favourite characters. I know I have already said this today but there honestly is no other man like Mikey Whiplash. There is absolutely no one doing what he currently and has been doing over the years with his character. This is the true definition of a unique character and boy does he own it. The Rocky Horror Frank N. Furter vibes mixed with the satanic, crazed bad guy just works so amazingly well. Only in the wrestling world what that sentence actually make sense but if you truly are looking for something completely differently, thoroughly entertaining and amazingly talented Mickey Whiplash is the man for you. His wrestling skills are fantastic, his ability to tell a great strong are brilliant and his character will leave you completely hooked. Keep in mind this certainly is a character for the older audience and while it sure isn't for everyone those who do enjoy his work will love it!

Joe Coffey
The last man featuring in today's blog post is a man I'm confident you all would have heard of by now, as not only is he one of the biggest faces on the British Wrestling circuit but is a man I have not stopped talking about here on my blog and over on twitter. Of course, I'm talking about The Iron-Man Joe Coffey. Ok, lets first clear this up, I am not including Joe Coffey in this post just because he uses "the Ironman" gimmick and Ironman is one of my all time favourite Marvel characters.... Although it may play a tiny little part. Joe Coffey is an amazing in ring talent. There is no denying that what so ever! Anyone that has seen him compete will report back that he moves around that ring in a way you would not expect a man of his size to move. He doesn't look like your everyday wrestler and so he is so easily separated from the crowd always standing out. When he competes in the ring you are shown yet another reason why he is such a standout and that falls on the fact that he is simply an amazingly talented professional wrestler. Again, over the years he has competed in some fantastic matches even more so recently. It doesn't matter what promotion here in the UK you are watching you're seeing Joe Coffey in action or at least hearing his name. When it comes to his character Coffey has something that once again separates him from the crowd. His entrance alone will have you on your feet singing along and by the time the match starts you're completely behind Coffey. Again, he's such an entertaining character, so amazingly talented and certainly worth checking out

And there you go! That is my list of five of the best characters in British Wrestling today! I hope you enjoyed this little read as I had so much fun writing this post! As always you can let me know what YOU think and who you believe is the best character in British Wrestling today by leaving a comment bellow or by dropping me a tweet over at @TezangiVictoria.
