4 Reasons Why Nikki Cross Should be Next NXT Women's Champion

Hello everyone and welcome back to Talk Wrestling Word, I hope you are all well and good and are having a great start to the brand new week! It's pretty crazy to think we're over half way through the year and almost reaching July! I have mentioned in recent blog posts that I am going to be working on my top ten WWE matches of the year so far and I am definitely working on that but I am running a little behind so that post is looking to be uploaded in the second with of July instead of the last week of June. Now, usually on a Monday I'll have a last week in week in wrestling post where I run over the action from the past week and all the biggest talking points from the world of pro wrestling, however, this week I wanted to bring something a little different and after spending the weekend catching up on NXT I was inspired to write a little article focused on one of the feuds I am most interested in at the moment. I am planning on writing more NXT based blog posts and this has for sure made me want to pay even more attention! So this past week on NXT it was announced that Asuka will defend her Women's championship in a last woman standing match against nemesis Nikki Cross in  what is a true must match up. The rivalry between these two women has been so heated, so entertaining and after their previous encounter this match was exactly what I wanted to see not to mention the fact that I am a huge Nikki Cross fan. Keeping all that in mind, today's blog post is going to be focused on this rivalry and the future of the NXT women's divison as I count down four main reasons why I believe Nikki Cross should be crowned the next NXT Women's champion. This is a blog post I really am massively passionate about and I cannot wait to get this started! As always, any recent blog post will be linked bellow including my Money in the Bank highlights and of course you can let me know what you thought of today's blog post and whether or not you believe Nikki Cross should be the next NXT Women's champion by leaving a comment bellow or by dropping me a tweet over at @TezangiVictoria.

Asuka's Reign Doesn't have to End... Just yet

While I may not be the worlds biggest Asuka fan there is not a single person in the entire world that can deny the fact that she is one of the most dominant superstars in the WWE today. Making history with her undefeated streak there is yet to be a women to stand toe to toe with the champ and pick up a victory. Asuka has made a huge impression since joining the roster and there really is no women or man that has been quite a dominant as she has been in a very long time. Now, breaking Asuka's record is something that we have all been talking about for the past couple of months. Her reign as champion has seen her face off against some of the best female superstars NXT has seen from Nia Jax, Bayley, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay just to name a few and as her career progresses it's time to start thinking about the next chapter. By the end of twenty seventeen we are all expecting to see Asuka up on the main roster hopefully as part of the Smackdown LIVE roster but getting to that point is looking to be pretty difficult and the reigning champ still does have plenty to do and finish off down in NXT. I have already spoken about this in previous blog posts but there are fans that don't want to see Asuka's record actually broken and I understand that completely. The more I think about it the more I would love to see Asuka continue her undefeated streak up on the main roster when she is eventually called up. It would make for a brilliant story and of course the perfect way to kick start her main roster run. Just imagine a feud between the queen Charlotte Flair and the undefeated empress Asuka! However, getting Asuka to drop her title and remain undefeated as she moves up to either RAW or Smackdown LIVE. We have seen Asuka take on some amazing talent during her run so far as we have already touched on but no one has yet picked up a victory over the champ, however, it really is only a matter of time and I really am expecting her to drop the title this Summer But to who and how? For quite some time now I have been convinced that Ember Moon is the right women for the job. She's been over with the fans since she kick started her NXT career, she's a fantastic talent and a women who comes across as a legitimate  threat to Asuka's reign and her championship. Now, the WWE could still go down this road. Asuka and Ember have brilliant chemistry and a story that really works. Ember is on her road to redemption and wants nothing more than to knock Asuka off her top spot and take that championship. The story is perfect and I can totally see the two colliding at NXT Takeover Brooklyn and a new champion being crowned, however, if I'm being honest I've really had a change of heart and as far as the next NXT Women's champion is concerned I'd much rather like to see Sanity member Nikki Cross take the title home. Now, it's a risky pick and her style both in the ring and as a character is so different to Ember but there is every reason to do so and the WWE have a great job setting a gripping and entertaining story between the two superstars that makes a title change between them feel like the right and effective move. Okay, so we don't have that classic "ending the steak" story but these two women have been so massively physical throughout the past couple of months which has led up to their coming last woman standing match. This honestly is the best option for Asuka and best opportunity for her to drop her championship. Is the right time now? Probably not. Asuka is one of the most dominant and impressive women in NXT history and she deserves to lose her title on a grand stage, particularity Takeover Brooklyn and I would have loved if this match to had taken place at this event. It would have been a highlight of the night and a  true must see match on the card. I do still believe these women will tear the house up this week on NXT but I doubt there will be a title change because of the venue. I will one hundred and ten percent be backing Cross and I feel as though she will for sure make an impact as I will get into more later but one of the main reasons I want to see a title change this week is because it really won't effect Asuka's reign. Yes, it does mean she will pick up her first loss but this won't be via pin fall or submission meaning that she would be to head up to the main roster still with undefeated streak. Just imagine how cool it would be for her to face off against someone like Charlotte, the women who had one of the most impressive streaks in women's wrestling history and Asuka, the women who has gone her entire WWE career so far without a pinfall or submission loss. Losing her title to Nikki Cross this week in a last woman standing means her reign continues, she remains looking dominant and at the same time it elevates Nikki Cross to a whole new direction. It keeps everyone happy and resolves a lot of issues not to mention that a rematch at NXT Brooklyn would be just as much of a must see if not even more intense. Asuka will have to work a new angle to the feud as this time she heads into a title mach the challenger and not the champ. Desperate to prove she can defeat Nikki in any match, anywhere, she demands that her rematch is another last women standing match to prove that she can pick up the win against Cross in a match of this stipulation. Again, it allows Asuka to remain undefeated via pin fall and submission and pushes Nikki to a whole new level. I know I personally would invest a great deal of time and money into part two of this match at Brooklyn. Sure it would be great to see Ember Moon bounce back and defeat the streak following this story but I really believe there is more to come out of the rivalry between Cross and Asuka and a title change there would be far better suited and beneficial for all parties.

Much Needed Momentum for Sanity

Okay, so I have spent a great deal of time in the past talking about how much I love Sanity and the whole concept of this faction. It's a fun, unique and interesting idea that really does have so much potential. The storylines, feuds, promos, and possible segments are endless and my interest in the faction continues to grow. When they first debuted I spent the first month talking about them a lot here on my blog and over on social media and made it clear I was so high on the idea. Now, my love for Sanity hasn't faded what so ever; I still believe they have all the potential in the world and could so easily be a huge part of NXT and the WWE when they make the move up to the main roster. However, the WWE so far have failed these four superstars. The initial idea was perfect. Here we had four very unique superstars who all bring something so different to to the table and a creative idea that really does work perfectly with the product but instead of elevating these guys to the top they have received the Wyatt Family treatment since their arrival. By now I honestly expected to have seen all four member's with gold around their waists. I have mentioned in the past how much I'd love to see all superstars as champions at the same time, having them work as such a dominant force NXT would do them all individually and the faction some real good and really change the tone of the show and the roster. It's been such a shame seeing them all so mistreated and poorly used. Thinking of what they could have done with these guys already in comparison to what have seen so far it just isn't good enough. Right now, Sanity is in desperate need of momentum. They need a feud that really captivates the fans and pushes them to a new height. The one thing the WWE have got right with these guys is the booking and use of Nikki Cross. She really is one member of Sanity I'm hooked on her. They have used so well since her arrival and it totally worthy of the little push she is getting at the moment. Nikki works her character perfectly. Every time she is on screen she is giving it a hundred and ten percent. She's convincing, entertaining, and completely captivating. As someone that has been following her career for quite some time now I've been so happy to  see do so well and be injected into the perfect role. Now, keeping all of this in mind it really is s important that Sanity find there feet soon and begin to make an impact, the moment you put a title on one of the members the faction automatically has more attraction. Nikki defeating the undefeated Asuka in a falls count anywhere match gives Sanity the momentum they so desperately need. Finally, we as fans have a reason to take these guys seriously and pay even more attention to Sanity as a faction as well as Nikki Cross as an individual.

A New Direction for the Division

The reason Nikki Cross has grabbed the attention of the NXT fans so much is simply down to how well she works her character. As we have already touched on in today's post, whenever she is put on our screens we are seeing a confident, entertaining, gripping, and convincing character that has us all completely invested in everything she does. ICW fans in particular will be aware of Cross' work and know full well that she was always destined for great things and becoming NXT champion is only one of many achievements she deserves to add to her resume. She has always been so massively capable of working any character she is given and puts her all into everything she does. Since joining Sanity, Nikki has been fantastic.  She's clearly so invested in her character and every little thing she does proves that. The way she has adapted her in ring style, her promos, her in ring psychology and the way she carries herself is simply perfection. Now, she doesn't have a true singles standout match yet, a moment where we cans say Nikki Cross just killed it in a pure wrestling match, however, she has been dominant and most certainly has made an impact. There have been several moments where she has stood out and been highlighted as the crazy, extreme, fearless superstar and its those crazy spots and captivating character that has captured the attention of the NXT universe. She brings something completely different to the divison and if she was to capture the NXT Women's championship there will be a completely different feel to the roster. We have all been sitting back and wondering who exactly will dethrone Asuka and names such as Ember Moon and Billie Kay have come to mind over and over again but Nikki Cross is the underdog. She hasn't been apart of the roster for as long and her popularity is something that is still growing. She's had her eye on the championship from the moment she first arrived in NXT and there has always been a reason to put the title on Cross. While I love Ember Moon and believe she will make a fantastic champion one day I'm desperate to see something new. Ember and Asuka have similarities both in the ring and as character while Nikki Cross is bringing something new and different. She's a fresh face and a character completely different to Asuka. If she was to become champion the feel of the divison would be completely different. The rest of the women will be facing a whole different type of champion. This is a deranged , care free superstar who has not one but three other allies standing by her side. Both her and Ember would make great title holders and their storyline's down the line could both be
brilliant however, when it comes to diversity and long term interest I do believe that Cross has the upper hand. There is so much more developing to do with her character and to do that while she is champion would work completely in her favor. I'd love to see a future title match between Cross and Moon but right now, personally, I really do  prefer the idea of the crazy Nikki Cross getting her hands on the NXT Womens Championship.

The Women's Evolution Continues

The past four to five years has seen women's wrestling change completely for the better. Thanks to NXT in particular higher ups have began to take women's wrestling seriously. We still have a long way to go and plenty more to do before females feel equal to males in the world of pro wrestling but seeing how we have come in such a short space of time makes me so happy and so massively proud. In a short space of time we have seen the name divas ditched and women now simply being called superstars, we have seen women main event Monday night RAW, Smackdown LIVE and a pay per view, the divas championship was retired and replaced the women's championship, and stipulations such as a steal cage, falls count anywhere, iron-man match, and a hell in a cell match have all taken place. Women are edging closer and closer to being equal to men in  a what has always been viewed as a male dominated sport. This up and coming NXT Women's championship between Asuka and Nikki Cross is another to add to the record books. A last women standing match is huge. Ten years
ago this just would never have been in talks, at least not a serious one of its kind. Here we are seeing two amazing characters and athletes trusted to compete in an intense, physical match and impress everyone. The pressure is on and these women have all eyes on them, but I don't doubt for a single second that the pair will smash is on Wednesday. Their previous encounter showed the two brawling all around Full Sail and boy where they impressive. They took the action to a whole new level performing spots and beating the crap out of each other. Watching this from home you could feel the personal hatred these two women felt for another and I was completely hooked. The show finished and all I wanted was to see them collide again in a match where they will be able to do everything the did on that night and more. Learning about the last women standing match made me the happiest little fan in the world. It's the perfect booking. It's suited to both these women and its exactly the match that is needed in this feud. These two women hate each other and will do anything to keep and get their hands on the NXT Womens championship. This match regardless of the end result will be a huge part of the women's wrestling history and I just know the two are going to impress us all. I do feel as though Nikki has that hardcore feel to her character and this match does work to her advantage. Looking ahead, if Nikki was to capture the title maybe this could open doors for more "extreme" like wrestling in the NXT Womens divison.

Okay, so that last point may not have counted but my overall opinion remains the same, Nikki Cross should become the NXT Womens champion. She's a fresh face, a totally captivating character, and her following is forever growing. She also so much to bring to the divison as champion and the shock factor that will follow her victory against Asuka would be huge and so great to see. I don't believe she will defeat Asuka this coming week but that doesn't change the fact that I still feel as though she should be given the opportunity at some point in her career to hold gold. Is her time now? Yeah, why not, the WWE just need to put trust in her and Sanity and take a risk. Regardless of the end result however, this is a must see match and I cannot wait to see the action. Hopefully, if Nikki doesn't get the win this time round they find a way to keep her and the rest of Sanity booked well and involved in some really strong, captivating and promising work because they all deserve to have a top career. s always, any recent blog post will be linked bellow including my Money in the Bank highlights and of course you can let me know what you thought of today's blog post and whether or not you believe Nikki Cross should be the next NXT Women's champion by leaving a comment bellow or by dropping me a tweet over at @TezangiVictoria.
