Six Women Who Could Dethrone Ronda Rousey

With Ronda Rousey walking out of the twenty eighteen SummerSlam pay per view the new RAW women’s Champion it has sparked great conversation as expected. Since her arrival in the WWE, the former UFC star has divided opinion and remained one of the biggest talking points in the world of pro wrestling and now as she shits as champion many are wondering what future opponents await Rousey and more importantly, who will dethrone the baddest women on the plant. In today’s blog post we are going to be diving into exactly that as I count down six potential women who could dethrone one of the biggest stars in the division's history!

Nikki Bella

While out of everyone who is set to feature in this blog post, Nikki Bella is the last person I would personally like to see dethrone Rousey there is no denying she is a popular name within the discussion. Rumored to be facing Rousey at the up and coming Super Showdown event in Australia her place within the WWE has been made very much clear. The company strongly believe she is a big attraction and someone they can rely on to rally in views and buys. Whenever a part of the WWE, she’s pushed to the top and given big-time opportunities and so defeating Rousey is something that wouldn’t surprise me. Now, I don’t believe Ronda will be dropping the title any time soon but the idea of Nikki scoring a win over Rousey when its most important at some point in the future possibly with the help of her sister doesn’t seem very farfetched.

 Shayna Baszler

From my least favourite pick to possibly my favourite pick on the list, we next dive into Shayna Baszler. With the two having a huge history and close friendship away from the ring and Baszler edging closer to call up to the main roster its only a matter of time before these two women work very closely on screen. Both apart of the Four Horsewomen of UFC fans know that’s inevitable at the pair will work together at some point one way or another. In terms of the most realistic and legitimate challenger for Rousey Baszler tops the list. Her character is something she has truly nailed throughout her NXT career and continues to grow in her storytelling, and it's clear a brilliant story can be told between these two women. A jealous Baszler tired of being overshadowed by Rousey and believing ultimately, she is better is a basic story that could work and dethroning her friend would be interesting and very much believable.

Natalya

Similarly, to Shayna Baszler, the story of a close friend turning on Rousey to walk out as champion fits perfectly with Natalya. From the get-go the WWE has focused on the friendship between the two women and while Natalya in the role of a heel hasn’t ever truly worked or been convincing, again, playing the jealous friend tired of being overshadowed words. Nattie is the veteran, she’s been a part of the company for a very long time and so to see a newbie given such a major push and spotlight so early is sure to wind her up the wrong way. A matchup between the two could be a highlight of both their careers and the title change would do huge things for Nattie.

Nia Jax

Up next is a woman I have been a fan of from day one and I’ve enjoyed watching her grow over the past few years massively! Now, while she may not be the best in-ring performer in the world she makes for a fantastic powerhouse forever growing and developing. Some of her best in-ring work has come from her former rival in Ronda Rousey and the two colliding again in the future is a possibility! I would personally really enjoy watching more from the two in the ring together and a shock ending with Jax coming up on top would most certainly grab my attention. She too makes for a believable and legitimate opponent for the current title holder.

Dana Brooke

Okay, so hear me out. I recently saw an Instagram post listing Dana as a potential opponent for Ronda Rousey in the near future and of course the comments…well they were not full of agreement, but it did get me thinking. Who last year honestly could have predicted Jinder Mahal having a WWE championship reign? The idea of a massively unlikely opponent scoring a huge shock win is sure to always divide opinion, but it can work. No one would truly believe Dana could walk out away as champion at this stage of her career regardless but against Ronda? It appears beyond impossible however, I have to say that the decision to do so would sure get people talking and I do believe there is a way it could work and have a very similar reaction and effect as Mahal’s win and it would not surprise me if the WWE did go this way.

Stephanie McMahon

Keeping on the theme of unlikely but still possibly women to dethrone Ronda Rousey we have Stephanie McMahon finishing off today’s blog post. Since her arrival in the WWE, Ronda has had on-screen problems with Stephanie McMahon working her first feud with the company against the woman herself and Triple H. Tensions have continued to be evident since their Wrestlemania clash and fans to believe its possible the two could collide in the future. Now, creating a story between them for a second time around or at least finding the right time to bring their feud back to life again may not be an easy task but with both women playing the roles they do and having the impact they do it may not be impossible at all. Of course, it would come as no surprise to see McMahon want her hands on the Women’s Championship and when you dive into it properly there is actually a good and interesting story that could be told with Stephanie believing the evolution revolves completely around her and without her it wouldn’t be a thing with Rousey of course disagreeing and fighting against it. McMahon walking out as champion would be a huge twist, divide opinion, create controversy but also provide a hot story for the division.

And there we go! Those were my six names! I really wanted to shake things up today, include some unlikely superstars, and stray away from discussing the obvious names, however, it should be noted the likes of Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, and Asuka remain favourites for many! I would, of course, love to know your opinion so feel free to leave a comment below or tweet me over at @TezangiVictoria.
