Six Reasons You Should Have Watched WWE Super Showdown

While many predicted it would be a glorified house show, even more, we're left believing WWE Super Showdown was the best main roster live show of the year. An emotional title change, an epic double turn, and a new number one contender this was a special night full of standout moments and in today’s blog post we are going to be looking back at this huge event as I tell you why you should have and should now go back and re-watch WWE super Showdown.

Buddy Murphy’s Championship Victory

The fact Buddy Murphy was able to compete for WWE gold in his hometown of Australia is something I’m sure he didn’t think would ever be possible but to have the standout match of the night and walk out the new champion is something on a completely different level. Taking on the impressive champ in Cedric Alexander this was always sure to be an excellent contest considering both men have played a vital part in the growth of 205LIVE working as consistently strong roster members. The bout from start to finish had fans both in attendance and watching LIVE at home on the edge of their seat, cheering, and totally captivated. This was an exciting, fast-paced bout that showcased exactly what 205LIVE is all about; passion, hard work, determination, and heart. It may not have had the history, backstory, and dramatic build as many of the other matches on the night, but this stood out for the sheer in-ring excellence and the emotional and special moment that saw Murphy crowned the new Cruiserweight Champion.

Nostalgia and A Double Cross

Triple H, The Undertaker, Kane, and of course, Shawn Michaels all had such a massive impact in the childhood of so many WWE fans and current superstars and so to see them all on screen this past Saturday was a very special moment. Hunter and Taker have been a part of some excellent matches throughout their careers with one, in particular, standing out as an all-time fave WWE match for me personally and with that in mind these twenty eighteen collisions was interesting but damn sure must see! Now, it may not have been the best contest we had seen between these two legends but none the less it was a standout of the night. Full of nostalgia and gripping action fans were left on the edge of their seats from the start right to the very end and talking of the end, Triple H was able to finally after seven years and three attempts pinned the Undertaker in the middle of the ring. The closing moments of this segment, however, saw Taker and Kane turn on the DX founders leaving fans believing much more is to come!

The Double Arm Bar

I’ll admit that not only did The Bella Twins not turning on Ronda Rousey surprise me but also disappoint a little the match was decent, and the six women were given more time than I expected. It did feel as though the contest dragged just that little bit, but the champ got her standout moment when she locked Sarah Logan and Liv Morgan in a brutal armbar at the same time. This was an epic moment of the night and a spot that gave the women’s division the buzz it needed this weekend. Rousey continues to make an impact and standout in her run with the WWE and she remains a seriously unpredictable and exciting part of the roster.

The Dream match is Booked

This weekend also saw Daniel Bryan knock off the Miz to become the new Number one contender to the WWE championship. With AJ Styles also keeping hold of his title it means that the up and coming WWE Crown Jewel Network special these two huge Smackdown LIVE stars will collide in a dream match for the ages you most certainly will not want to miss out on. Both the Miz vs Bryan and Samoa Joe vs Styles made for excellent matches at the Super Showdown event also but with the knowledge of what is to come I and everyone else in the WWE universe cannot wait to see the fantastic wrestling match coming up between two of the most talented, over, and important stars on Smackdown LIVE and in the WWE as a whole.

Match Quality and Smart Booking

Throughout today’s blog post we have touched on the quality of matches and it must be said that there really were some gems throughout the night. The Smackdown LIVE tag team match was solid, we had two legends battle it out in a classic, a hugely entertaining six-man tag team match, as well as the likes of Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, and the Miz participating in some truly fantastic matches. The quality of in-ring performances was above a lot of what we have seen throughout the year but what also stood out was the very smart booking. Peyton and Billie scored the win in their hometown gaining momentum as well as the satisfying win, the Six-man tag team match had plenty of excellent storytelling and the booking was very smart, and the decision to have Becky Lynch end her title match in DQ was a very interesting turn of events that while many didn’t like did, in fact, make plenty of sense.

The Six Man Tag Team Match

The six-man tag team match between the Shield and Braun Strowman, Dolph Ziggler, and Drew McIntyre was just as strong as everyone was expecting it to be. Every single superstar had their standout moment, they all belonged there, the wrestling was fantastic, and the overall storytelling may just have been some of the best of the night. The crowd were completely invested throughout this match and the amazing spots had everyone up on their feet and the arena louder than ever. While it may have disappointed many to see Ambrose not in fact turn on his Shield brothers I personally feel as though the story has had so much depth added to it and I genuinely feel like a better moment is coming for that dramatic move. The match itself and what we saw from these guys is enough for me to re-watch regardless!

Overall, I think its safe to say that WWE Super Showdown exceeded expectations. There were plenty of reasons as to why you should have tuned in and I hope I’ve been able to convince those that didn’t to do so after reading today’s blog post!
