Why Becky Lynch VS Charlotte Flair is One Of The Best WWE Feuds Today

It was back at the SummerSlam pay per view that fans witnessed Becky Lynch turn heel after attacking long-term friend and ally Charlotte Flair. After failing to walk out as the Smackdown LIVE women’s champion Becky finally cracked; tired of living in the shadows of the Queen she took it upon herself to make an impact, get people talking, and turn heads and that is exactly what she has done. Currently sitting as champion and while the WWE universe may struggle to see Lynch as the WWE bad guy with support flooding in more than ever there is still no denying the simple fact that this rivalry is one of the best and strongest stories not only in the women’s division but in the WWE as of right now. With the pair set to collide in a historic last woman standing match, we are going to be looking what exactly has made this feud so good ahead of a must-see collision.

The History

The history between Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair is one that has played such a key part in this story. The two grew and developed their careers together over in NXT going from strength to strength and crossing paths. With both women making such an impact and being a major part in the evolution of women’s wrestling their roles within the Four Horsewomen established the two as important future stars. Throughout their run on the main roster, Lynch and Flair continued to cross paths working their first Wrestlemania match together alongside Sasha Banks, squaring off against each other for gold, and working together in several tag team bouts. Over the past year alone there has been great emphasis on their friendship and throughout that and throughout Lynch’s career the Irish Lass kicker has been massively overshadowed by Flair. Its been Charlotte getting longer matches, more TV, time, posters, and championship reigns while Lynch has gone seriously underutilized for a very long time.

The Role of Importance

Unlike many women's division feuds, the WWE has made this feel extremely important and a major part of the Smackdown LIVE shows every week. Charlotte and Lynch have been a part of the opening matches and segments, have main evented, and been apart of standout segments in the middle of episodes. The two have been made to feel like important factors of the show and their storyline had dominated Tuesday nights often getting a better reaction and more attention than the WWE championship picture. The natural flow and the level of storytelling is something to this day we don't see enough from the women's division.

Having Enough

We’ve seen Charlotte take the spotlight from the moment she arrived within the WWE. Her talent, wrestling ability, and family has given her every reason to be pushed to the top and there is no denying she will go down as an all-time great however, the likes of Becky Lynch most certainly deserve the same applause but throughout her career she has been left in the back just behind Charlotte missing out on so many opportunities and because of that fans have been anticipating a turn for a long time to see Lynch finally crack and when it happened it was so well done. We saw Lynch given the opportunity she always wanted, faced off on a major star against Flair and come so close to capturing gold but to be overshadowed again and beaten by her closest friend and to have another opportunity taken away from her was just too much and seeing Lynch finally snap was a moment that left fans both at home and in attendance completely invested and excited.

“For this? Really? For this?”

Throughout the rivalry between these two women, there has been a lot of emphasis on the importance of the Smackdown LIVE women’s championship but more so how much it means to each of these women. With Charlotte challenging Lynch on her belief that the title was worth more than their friendship Lynch made it clear that she got into this industry to be the best, she gave up her life and home for the WWE and to be champion while for Flair it was a much easier journey. She was practically born into this industry and while the Queen was born into it Lynch born for it. The journey in which both these women have taken to be where they are has been a big focus and its that journey that has showcased just how much worth is attached to the title making for an interesting part in their story.

The Sense of Reality

Making a storyline feel real and personal is something that isn’t always easy and well done up on the main roster particularly in the women’s division, but this is an element the WWE and these two women have nailed perfectly. Becky’s activity across social media has been such a key part in this story seeing her mention how little she is taken seriously, the opportunities she doesn’t get, attacking the WWE for the decisions they make regarding posters for example, and tweeting out revealing tweets and Instagram posts. Its small things like that that have really gave this feud the realistic feel amongst many other things! The storyline hasn’t been too over the top in the slightest with the tale of one friend overshadowing the other, the story of a women born into an industry compared to a woman who has had to fight and give everything up is both realistic and relatable.

Becky’s Mic Work

I'll be honest and say that I haven’t always been sold on Becky’s mic work dating back to her NXT days however this particular rivalry has seen Lynch own it on the mic delivering the best promos of her entire career. Lynch has told the story so well cutting in-ring promos and as part of interviews making sure to include the fans in her story, the history between the two women and sharing her side so well. We will be concluding this post by taking a look at Becky’s role and how the WWE universe has reacted to her since the turn but for now, we have to point out just how important her honest, real, and captivating promos have been.

Last Woman Standing

Again, if I’m being totally honest I haven’t enjoyed the pay per view matches from these two so far in their feud however I do believe that they had a fantastic showing on a recent episode of Smackdown LIVE with that easily being their best to date and I strongly believe there is plenty more to come and their best bout will come at the up and coming Evolution pay per view where the two will do battle in a last woman standing match. The collision that saw Charlotte spear Lynch into the Smackdown LIVE LED board was so heavily spoken about because it’s a level of brutality and intensity we don’t get to see in the women’s division enough at all! The fact these two will be competing in a Last Woman Standing match adds to why this feud is so damn good! Becky has finally been given the chance to make history again and considering the story and the way their recent matches have ended this stipulation is a perfect fit and I honestly do feel as though it should be the main event of Evolution despite that not actually being the case.

To conclude, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair have without a doubt been working an important storyline for the women’s division that has been a heavy standout across the WWE, why? Because the storytelling has been so well. This is the feud many fans have wanted to see and everything about how its been done is so well. It’s personal, its intense, and it's forever growing. Now, the roles in which these women are playing is a little…backwards, to say the least. Charlotte Flair continues to come across as the heel despite Becky being pushed and used in that direction/way but the roles and how these women are playing and working them has honestly left fans so invested in the action. The fact fans have been so interested is also a huge contributing factor to why this is one of the best storylines as of right now. Becky is taking on the role of a heel but everything she has been saying has been so true and honest and with more to come and the pair continuing to dominate Smackdown LIVE I’d say this is a storyline to keep an eye out for!
